- <wildweasel> so i have a gaming "itch" that i'm trying to find a scratch for
- <wildweasel> looking for a good first-person shooter where the player and enemies will tend to die in one or two hits, where i can freely choose to use only a pistol, and where i do not have squadmates
- <Bloaxor> DoomRL AoMC
- <wildweasel> unfortunately not first-person
- <Bloaxor> oh yeah
- <wildweasel> i was trying to scratch said itch by doing terrorist hunts on rainbow six vegas 2, but that game gets pretty frustrating with the psychic AI
- <AlexMax> will there ever be another rainbow six game :/
- <Ryan_Cordell> Deus Ex? :P
- <Dynamo> hmmmm
- <Dynamo> can't think of anything like that
- <Dynamo> though that made me think of SiN for some reason
- <wildweasel> i get the feeling that if there's ever another r6 game, it'll be even more like call of duty
- <Dynamo> my friend used to play rainbow six but I never played it

- <FireSeraphim> My apologies for bothering you people but could someone make a quick SSTSE:HD mod on my behalf. I simply need a music mod that replaces "Dunes Medium" from FE with "Boss Fight Strings" from BFE
- <TheDarkArchon> Also, I just got an email asking about a spriting mistake on the old Hectebus I did back in the day
- <FireSeraphim> My apologies for bothering you people but could someone make a quick SSTSE:HD mod on my behalf. I simply need a music mod that replaces "Dunes Medium" from FE with "Boss Fight Strings" from BFE. I really cannot make head or tails of the actual editor for said game so please. I mean I know it's somehow the cool thing to ignore me even when anymore I don't really speak all that often
- <Ghastly> "I mean I know it's somehow the cool thing to ignore me" Bud, it's been 10 minutes. I'm sure the only reason people haven't spoken is because they don't know the editor either. But saying things like that doesn't make people respond any faster.
- <Ghastly> Valerie, you're the resident Serious Sam expert, right? (If anybody in this channel would know, it's probably her)
- <NeuralStunner> I, for one, haven't even been here because I'm busy today.
- <NeuralStunner> But hey, go ahead and throw a temper tantrum like the child you are.
- <NeuralStunner> Again.
- <FireSeraphim> How is that even a temper tantrum. I pointed out the fact that zdoomer seems to like to ignore me nowadays even when I don't speak all that often and politely asked for a response
- <NeuralStunner> Anyone who is ignoring you is doing so because you're not worth talking to most of the time
- <FireSeraphim> I also pointed out that I could not make sense of the serious editor
- <FireSeraphim> Neural, your asshole is showing
- <Ghastly> It was passive-aggressive/sarcastic, and you're assuming that we know perfectly well how to do it and are just ignoring you.
- <NeuralStunner> You mentioned that, let's see, twice.
- <FireSeraphim> Well you guys are classic FPS afficinatos and I come to expect you all to know justy about everything classic FPS related
- <InsanityBringer> actually not all of us are, heh
- <FireSeraphim> So it seems rational to ask all of you
- <Ghastly> Heh, there are quirks about the /Doom/ engine that a lot of people here don't know. =P
- <NeuralStunner> Annoying people isn't the way to get help, actually
- <NeuralStunner> You don't seem to get this after what, at least a year of being told over and over?
- <InsanityBringer> remember though that most people here pick a few engines to know really well, but don't know much about others
- <FireSeraphim> NS, being hateful to people you don't like doesn't not generate results
- <FireSeraphim> *does not
- <NeuralStunner> Who's being hateful?
- <InsanityBringer> ss is sort of popular 'round these parts, but not many people here take their hand at modding it, so you may honestly be best looking into how you might have to do things yourself
- <InsanityBringer> or finding a community that works with ss more often
- <Valerie> Someone called me?
- <FireSeraphim> My apologies for bothering you people but could someone make a quick SSTSE:HD mod on my behalf. I simply need a music mod that replaces "Dunes Medium" from FE with "Boss Fight Strings" from BFE.Yes, I did
- <FireSeraphim> Damnitr
- <FireSeraphim> My irc client borked on me
- <Valerie> It should be easy
- <FireSeraphim> It needs to be for the HD version of TSE
- <Valerie> open some of the serious sam 3 .gro files with 7Zip and find the zipped music
- <FireSeraphim> Really? I thought it would involve using the serious editor
- <Valerie> then make a zip file that follows the directory structure and file name of the track you wanna replace
- <Valerie> and rename that zip file's extension to .gro
- <FireSeraphim> So a Gro. file is really an overglorifed zip? wow/
- <Valerie> put it in serious sam hd the second encounter/content/Serious Sam TSE i think
- <Valerie> \serious sam hd the second encounter\Content\SeriousSamHD_TSE is where you wanna put your new gro file
- <FireSeraphim> which gro. file is the music normally contained in?
- <Valerie> to use the mod, just run it in unrestricted mode
- <Valerie> I dunno, I never really looked
- <Ghastly> 21:55 <FireSeraphim> So a Gro. file is really an overglorifed zip? wow/ <<< Welcome to moddable first-person shooters
- <Valerie> should be easy to figure out yourself
- <Ghastly> Quake 3, Quake 4 and Doom 3 are the same way. Resources are in renamed .zip files.
- <Valerie> and yes, it doesn't make sense to develop a proprietary pack format when zip is available already
- <Ghastly> Well, it only makes sense if you're trying to specifically stamp out modding. =/
- <Valerie> and every computer nowadays can open zip files by default
- <Valerie> yeah that too
- <InsanityBringer> you know, now that the doom3bfg source is out has anyone made a .resources editor
- <Valerie> but I fugured that proprietary file formats were made in moddable games as well, back then because zip was not the popular archive format yet
- <Ghastly> Yeah
- <Valerie> oh and Neural, no need to be an ass about it, I am a big enough person to be able to handle people if they get too annoying
- <NeuralStunner> I'm not being an ass.
- <NeuralStunner> And I'd like you to not assume that.
- <Valerie> too late for that
- <FireSeraphim> So does TSE HD load data strait from FE HD?
- * NeuralStunner (~NeuralStu@50-102-211-82.ekht.in.frontiernet.net) has left (Okay then.)
- <Valerie> I think so
- <Valerie> actually I don't think so
- <Valerie> I think it uses the First Encounter DLC packs
- <Valerie> yeah it most likely uses the First Encounter DLC files when loading the egypt levels
- <FireSeraphim> For some reason despite me following the instructions to the tee it's not t\aking
- <FireSeraphim> and it's sorta pissing me off.
- <Valerie> well, there maybe one thing you are missing
- <Valerie> like are you running the moddable version of Serious Sam HD
- <FireSeraphim> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7624816/Stuff%20that%20needs%20sharing/BFEish%20Music.gro here is the gro file and yes I'm running the moddable version
- <Valerie> because unless you run that version of the game, the game will ignore all mod packages installed
- <FireSeraphim> I cannot comprehend what it is that I'm doing wrong, I swear I did everything according to protocol
- <Valerie> I found the issue
- <Valerie> the music folder should be inside the \Content\SeriousSamHD\ folder in that zip file
- <FireSeraphim> Now I feel like a moron
- <Valerie> so it should look like D:\Apps\Steam\steamapps\common\serious sam hd the second encounter\Content\SeriousSamHD_TSE\DLC_TheFirstEncounter.gro\Content\SeriousSamHD\Music\Dunes\
- <Valerie> oh yeah, and add a "Z_" to the beginning of the package file name, to ensure priority when loading mods
- <FireSeraphim> could you send a modified version over. I'm not quite getting what the gro. folder structure should look like.
- <FireSeraphim> it is \serious sam hd the second encounter\Content\SeriousSamHD_TSE\Content\SeriousSamHD\Music\Dunes\?
- <FireSeraphim> or \Content\SeriousSamHD\Music\Dunes\?
- <Valerie> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9832493/Z_BFEMusic_-_Dunes%26GreatPyramid.gro
- <FireSeraphim> thank you Val
