Gella was leaning against the balcony overlooking the
dark sea when she felt a disturbance in the Force. There was a weight pressing in against her heart, there and then gone. Up above, the palace was quiet, save for the party.
She hurried back inside and scanned the crowd- cackling Toydarians, waltzing Twi'leks, even two tipsy Gungans. Phan-tu and Master Sun were deep in conversation with Chancellor Mollo. All appeared in order.
"What is it?" Xiri asked, sidling up beside her.
"I know your Jedi
face by now."
Gella found a strain of the anxiety as a servant girl ran along the periphery of the room then tugged the sleeve of a guard and hurried him along.
Xiri and Gella shared a look that said everything. Gathering up the hem of her dress, Xiri ran alongside the Jedi Knight through the sandstone halls of Erasmus palace. Even before they turned the corner that led to the guest rooms, they heard a scream.
Axel, Gella thought. His room was down there. Every step fit his wading into an unknown current. She’d known something was wrong, but attributed it to his illness.
The Eirami palace guards parted as Xiri entered Axel's room first and found Viceroy Ferrol sprawled on the floor with a pistol in his hand and a dagger in his belly.
