  1. Sarah has been home from the hospital for 2 weeks. Her spirits are much improved. She’s had lots of visitors and continues to receive love from near and far in many forms - cards, flowers, plants, balloons, food, phone calls, comforting clothing, cuddly things, etc. — all much appreciated! Louis and I have assumed nursing, errand, and driving duties.

  3. Physically Sarah is healing gradually. She is going through physical therapy for her knee which is proving to be the biggest barrier to her independence now. Her facial fractures are healing but it will take some time to determine whether she will need more bone grafting for her upper jaw. She will need to get a flipper plate with artificial teeth until her implants can be done. In the meantime she is still on a liquid/soft diet until she’s able to chew — still a few more weeks. And in mid February she will go to an ocularist to get a prosthetic eye. She just read “A Singular View: The Art of Seeing with One Eye” which was recommended by her ophthalmologist.

  5. As for the young woman who hit Sarah, her arraignment is scheduled for the end of this month when she will be read the charges against her.

  7. So, we are moving forward. Things are not so scary. And we’re actually enjoying being a family of 4 for a while.
