Why Castor is gone

[4:24pm] Alivi: Eriko makes her way towards the range.
[4:24pm] Alivi: She figures it is late enough and no one will notice.
[4:28pm] Alivi: Eriko makes it to the range is anyone there?

[4:32pm] Alivi: Eriko seems surprised. She hopes he doesn't notice her she goes over towards a practice target and takes out Castor.

[5:15pm] Alivi: Eriko looks at Duncan not understanding the problem.
[5:15pm] ShockwaveLover: "It sure looks like one of the hand cannons he normally carries around."
[5:16pm] Alivi: "He gave me this one…. it doesn't run out of amm…amu…bullets!" She says giving up on the word.
[5:16pm] ShockwaveLover: He sees her lack of comprehension. "Okay, imagine it like this. You've decided to start teaching me chemistry."

[5:17pm] ShockwaveLover: "Would you give me a 44 gallon drum of sodium and access to water?"
[5:17pm] ShockwaveLover: "Or hand me a beaker of hydrochloric acid and tell me to go wild?"
[5:18pm] Alivi: Eriko frowns "That is a lot of sodium… and it depends on the concentration of the acid….but no..."
[5:19pm] ShockwaveLover: "Giving that gun to person who's just started shooting is like giving a science student a nuclear reactor."
[5:20pm] Alivi: "I've shot before…I had a foundation course in Japan."
[5:21pm] ShockwaveLover: "Even so, it's not a gun for anyone even close to beginner."
[5:22pm] ShockwaveLover: "That sort of thing takes a lot of training to use even moderately well."
[5:22pm] Alivi: "I've shot with it before..."
[5:22pm] ShockwaveLover: "And sore arms were probably the result."
[5:23pm] Alivi: "N-No…."

[5:25pm] ShockwaveLover: He sighs. "Look, it's a nice gift, but that sort of calibre isn't really meant for anything outside of showing off at the range. It's heavy, it's unruly and it kicks like a fucking mule. You'd be better off with a pistol, at least for the time being."
[5:25pm] ShockwaveLover: "Keep practising, sure, but don't take it on mission."
[5:26pm] Alivi: "Its the only one I have. Other than my old Foundation one."
[5:29pm] Alivi: Eriko looks at Duncan frowning.

[5:35pm] Alivi: "Well..I don't have one of those… this is what I have and I have to get used to using it..."
[5:38pm] Alivi: Eriko turns back to the target sighing. She completely missed…. what if Duncan is right?
[5:44pm] SWLogs: "Yes, but while you're getting used to it, you won't be performing as well in the field, will you?'
[5:44pm] SWLogs: "And that puts the rest of us at risk."
[5:45pm] Alivi: Eriko sighs. "What do I do then?"
[5:46pm] SWLogs: "Like I said, keep practising with it. But draw yourself something smaller from the Armoury in the meantime."

[5:48pm] Alivi: "Like what….All I have is a foundation gun and I do not know if that is good enough and a pocketknife…." Eriko knows nothing about weapons.
[5:49pm] SWLogs: "Look, if you want, I'll come with you. Give you a hand."
[5:52pm] Alivi: Eriko sighs. "Ok..."
[5:52pm] Alivi: "What if he gets upset though?"
[5:54pm] SWLogs: "You're still using it. Just not on mission until you can get to grips with it. He can't be upset with that."
[5:55pm] Alivi: "I guess..."
[5:55pm] Alivi: She frowns more and looks at Duncan. "What if I shouldn't shoot at all… how do I help then?"
[5:58pm] SWLogs: "Hey, when did I say you shouldn't shoot at all?"
[5:59pm] Alivi: "When I shot my teammate in the foot..."
[6:00pm] SWLogs: "Yeah, but you've gotten better since then."
[6:02pm] Alivi: "Really?"
[6:02pm] SWLogs: "Wouldn't say it if it wasn't true." He gives her a pat on the back, then turns to the door. "Come on, let's head off and get you some firepower."

[6:07pm] Alivi: She doesn't seem very happy but she realizes the merit of Duncan's suggestion

[6:18pm] Alivi: Eriko looks around and then at Duncan.
[6:18pm] SWLogs: "Right, just give me a sec..."
[6:19pm] Alivi: "Ok...."
[6:19pm] SWLogs: He heads over to the main desk, and after some discussion, comes back with two pistols.
[6:20pm] Alivi: Eriko waits for him.
[6:22pm] SWLogs: "Right, these two here are the best choices, I think, but if you want to look at some more, I'm more than happy too."

[6:46pm] SWLogs: "Well, compared to the hand cannon you were using before, yeah - it'll fee la bit light. And it's 40% plastic."

[6:48pm] SWLogs: "Not the stuff you find in a plastic bag, mind you."

[7:06pm] SWLogs: "You seemed to do better with the Glock, but that's just me."
[7:06pm] Alivi: "I think so too…" She seems a bit worried.
[7:09pm] SWLogs: "Which one felt better?"
[7:10pm] SWLogs: He wonders why she sounds worried.
[7:10pm] Alivi: "The glock…but..."
[7:11pm] Alivi: She sighs.
[7:12pm] SWLogs: "But?"
[7:13pm] Alivi: "But….it isn't the same…"
[7:13pm] Alivi: "What if…I mess up?"
[7:16pm] SWLogs: "Do you think the chances of messing up are greater now than they were before?"
[7:20pm] Alivi: "…I don't know..."
[7:22pm] SWLogs: "'Riko, there's always chance we'll mess up. But do you know what's worse than messing up?"
[7:23pm] Alivi: "No…."
[7:24pm] SWLogs: "Getting so afraid of messing up that we don't even try."
[7:26pm] SWLogs: "At least if we screw up, we know that we were giving it our best shot. Sitting around navel gazing means you've committed to losing right off the bat."
[7:27pm] Alivi: Eriko looks down.
[7:28pm] SWLogs: "And  I don't know about you, but I don't plan on going down without a fight, whether I mess up or not."
[7:29pm] Alivi: "I promised Zach…. that I would do my best to protect everyone..."
[7:31pm] Alivi: "But I'm not like you… I'm not a fighter…. I just know how to mix up chemicals…."
[7:32pm] Alivi: "I just want to make sure I am doing my best..."
[7:32pm] SWLogs: "Then concentrate on being great at that. That's a skill that's more likely to save us all from the apocalypse than blasting away at things." He sighs. "You can't worry about everyone, Eriko. I learnt that a long time ago. Doesn't do anyone any good."
[7:35pm] SWLogs: "Help where you can, sure, but trust people to do their jobs."
[7:36pm] Alivi: "How would chemistry save us?"
[7:36pm] Alivi: Eriko looks like she is pondering more than asking.
[7:38pm] SWLogs: "Who knows? But at the end of the day, science is probably the greatest weapon in humanity's arsenal."
[7:40pm] Alivi: "I guess..."
[7:41pm] Alivi: Eriko looks at the glock. "So this one...right?"
[7:42pm] Alivi: "It has limited ammo…how much should I carry with me?"
[7:43pm] SWLogs: "I'd go with two mags spare, and one loaded in. That'll give you plenty of ammo."
[7:44pm] SWLogs: "If you get into a situation that you need more than that, well, a 9mm probably isn't going to be much help anyway."
[7:46pm] Alivi: "True…" Eriko sighs.
[7:46pm] Alivi: "How….do you load it?"
[7:51pm] SWLogs: "Just put the mag in. There's no manual safety - see that little bar sticking out of the trigger? That has to be pressed in for it to fire."
[7:51pm] Alivi: "Oh..."
[7:51pm] SWLogs: "If you're unloading, there's a magazine catch on the left side, behind the trigger. Hit that to drop out the mag, pull the slide back to eject any rounds in the chamber, inspect it, release the slide and pull the trigger."
[7:52pm] Alivi: Eriko stares at him.
[7:52pm] SWLogs: "Like this." He takes the gun and demonstrates.
[7:53pm] Alivi: Eriko watches. "Oh…"
[7:53pm] SWLogs: It's run through a few times, then he hands it back to her. "Your turn."
[7:53pm] Alivi: "This…..is hard..."
[7:53pm] Alivi: She takes it and tries to do it. She doesn't slide back to eject the rounds.
[7:56pm] SWLogs: "Gotta rack the slide back. Otherwise there might still be one in there."
[7:57pm] Alivi: Eriko looks at Duncan, "O-Oh…"
[7:57pm] Alivi: She does so and releases the slide.
[8:02pm] SWLogs: "There we go. Practice that and you'll be doing it in your sleep."
[8:18pm] Alivi: "Ok….."
[8:21pm] SWLogs: "Awesome." Duncan safes the P226, and looks around. "Well, I think that's about everything."
[8:22pm] SWLogs: "Oh, almost forgot - you'll have to pull some spare mags and a holster from the armoury."
[8:22pm] Alivi: "Um Duncan?"
[8:22pm] SWLogs: "Yeah?"
[8:23pm] Alivi: "O-Oh….do I just….um…"
[8:23pm] Alivi: She seems to have lost track of what she wanted to say

[8:25pm] Alivi: "Well….t-thanks for helping me….I will do my best….even if I still don't understand it…."
