  3. <Antioch|GM> Cleveland's gone to hell the night after the funeral. It's all over the news. Riots in the streets, houses burning down, gangster and criminals running rampant. Cameron's busy running damage control for the city, but Primus got hit hard. The news stations -- and pretty much every other major faction -- got sent a devastating packet of information. The worst
  4. <Antioch|GM> of which is that the rest of the Cleveland knows his brother's identity as Cantus Aureus. ||
  5. <-> Nonagon is now known as Non|Nachzehrer
  6. <CG|Artful> Freddie had not expected to wake up to this... bullshit. That was the only word for it. It seemed like a lot of the info that had gotten out had screwed a lot of villains over, which was whatever. They had that shit coming. But his brother was the last person that deserved to be fucked with. Have his identity leaked, his life ruined.
  7. <CG|Artful> He taps his finger rapidly in double time, to accompany a slow, heavy, and plodding drum line that a nasally voiced rapper flows over in his headphones.
  8. <CG|Artful> What to do... What to do... He continues to watch the city burn from a window while he thinks.
  9. <CG|Artful> ||
  10. <Antioch|GM> There are too many headlines to track, but a few stick out -- "Capo II Missing As Chaos In Cleveland Unfolds," "Protectorate Reinforcements Arrive To Quell Riots," "Multiple Reports Of New Tinkers Arriving Northeast Of Town."
  11. <Antioch|GM> On his side of town, at least, things aren't as bad as what he sees in the news. ||
  12. <CG|Artful> He raises both eyebrows seeing the thing about Capo. If someone managed to take that monster out then things are really, and completely shot to shit.
  13. <CG|Artful> That must mean an all out brawl is going on down there. Especially if they're calling in reinforcements and riot control.
  14. <CG|Artful> It all probably ties back to the damn Tinkers in the end.
  15. <CG|Artful> He paces back and forth, and checks his phone. What to do... What to do...
  16. <CG|Artful> Something inside him that he barely registers /urges/ him towards the chaos.
  17. <CG|Artful> ||
  18. <Antioch|GM> There's a message on his phone that barely registered as he focused on the chaos out the window and on the screen.
  19. <Antioch|GM> "Call me. I have work you can do."
  20. <Antioch|GM> It's from Russian Roulette. ||
  21. <CG|Artful> He doesn't waste any time before pulling up her number and hitting call.
  22. <CG|Artful> This is what he's been waiting for. /Something/ to do.

  25. <Antioch|GM> "Dodger," Russian Roulette says, picking up near-immediately.
  26. <Antioch|GM> "Every Tinker in the city is using this chaos as an opportunity to take the prize. The truce that Vorpal took pains to broker has already been shattered."
  27. <Antioch|GM> "I've been keeping tabs on the competition. Major players that pose a threat or concern. Now's a good opportunity to thin the herd." ||
  28. <CG|Artful> "Roulette." He replies almost immediately after she's done speaking.
  29. <CG|Artful> "And alright I figured something was going on with the Tinkers again. I'm assuming that last part is where I come in?"
  30. <CG|Artful> She's going to send him in to just kick ass it looks like. That text is looking like the answer to his restlessness.
  31. <CG|Artful> He continues to tap his finger on the back of his phone.
  32. <CG|Artful> ||
  33. <Antioch|GM> "Yes," she agrees. "Caitiff and High-Spec are known quantities, both with the skills and resources to impede me significantly. I hear Overclock and Caladbolg are inbound for town as well -- we've apparently failed some form of time limit, and Longinus has rebroadcast his message to a wider range of Tinkers."
  34. <Antioch|GM> "For the time being, I'd suggest High-Spec as a target. He's the most, mm... predictable of the lot." ||
  35. <CG|Artful> "You know where Caitiff is?" He asks quickly, focusing on the name he knows best.
  36. <-- Jadmin (Jadmin@net-j80g5b.fios.verizon.net) has quit (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client)
  37. <CG|Artful> But damn it, MORE Tinkers? This is ridiculous. Nobody is going to mind if he gets rid of a few of them.
  38. <CG|Artful> "What do you mean about High-Spec though?"
  39. <CG|Artful> ||
  40. <Antioch|GM> "Sorry, kid. If I knew where Caitiff was, I'd send you after him. But High-Spec, he's predictable, the efficacy of his tech means he has to stay tethered to a given location for stretches of time, and it'd be preferable if you're able to delay or incapacitate him while he makes his preparations." ||

  42. <-> Saff is now known as Saff|Fauna
  43. <CG|Artful> He snaps the fingers on his other hand absently. Of course anyone knowing where he would be, would be a huge longshot.
  44. <CG|Artful> "Damn. Alright. So what are we talking? I ride in and trash his workshop and shit?" Maybe he could spray paint it afterwards too, he cradles the phone with his shoulder to go make sure he has enough paint in his cans. He goes to gather his costume together also.
  45. <CG|Artful> ||
  46. <Antioch|GM> "Find him, put him out of commission for the next three hours, minimum. Outside of that, you're free to do what you like." ||
  47. <CG|Artful> ((High spec is the one who pulled his piece out on me right?))
  48. <Antioch|GM> ((Yep.))
  49. <CG|Artful> "Nice. I get to be creative with it, then. Just like I like it. Can you give him me a rundown on him. I've met him before, and he did this crazy scan, but that's about all I know about him. Any general areas he'd be more likely to be at?"
  50. <CG|Artful> ||
  51. <Antioch|GM> "I'll give you the coordinates to his base. What you need to know is that everything he does is scan-based. Auto-configuring offenses and defenses, targeting and scanning systems that grow more accurate or potent the more opportunities you give him to get a bead on you. Hit hard, fast, unpredictably."
  52. <Antioch|GM> "It's why you came to mind," she adds, "for this particular job. Expect auto-targeting systems, automata, evolutive weaponry, et cetera." ||
  53. <CG|Artful> "So basically keep moving, and don't let him have a line of sight on me for longer than it takes to see me fucking up? Do I have the gist of it?' Dodger asks, and despite himself he finds a small grin on his face.

  59. <CG|Artful> ||
  60. <Antioch|GM> "His scans are quick, when they're needed," she replies. "If it catches you off-guard, there are entire suites of tech designed to capitalize on it. It's less so about eluding his scope and more about taking him out before he accumulates enough data and momentum."
  61. <Antioch|GM> "What are you looking for in return?" she asks. "Cash? Favors? I'm willing to entertain an offer." ||
  62. <CG|Artful> "Got it." He'll just have to make sure Mr. High Spec doesn't get any opportunities to see him at all then. It's only fair after getting a piece pulled on him.
  63. <CG|Artful> He thinks for a second. This was it. Probably the final stretch towards getting whatever it was they wanted inside of that base. She /needed/ his help today. Every advantage was crucial.
  64. <CG|Artful> He decides to push.
  65. <CG|Artful> "What we talked about before. Columbus. Rally. I'll take out as many Tinkers as you want and in return when we head there, you go all in with me on eliminating them from the map. Completely. Getting me in contact with people who are just as interested in getting that done could be good too."
  66. <CG|Artful> ||
  67. <Antioch|GM> "I'd assumed as such," she replies. "It'll be done. I'll assist in what ways I can, and get you in contact with a Columbus-based mercenary outfit. If I'm unable to physically assist, I'll ensure that a portion of my funds goes towards the cost of the contract." ||
  68. <CG|Artful> ...
  69. <CG|Artful> "That sounds like it'll do it. I'd shake your hand if I could, but I guess I can just do that later." He says.
  70. <CG|Artful> All of the pieces of his costume are set out and ready in front of him. His spray cans are topped off, and he's ready to go.
  71. <CG|Artful> "I'll be heading out to get that done shortly then."
  72. <CG|Artful> ||
  73. <Antioch|GM> "On the subject of the Columbus-based mercenary outfit, you'll be working with another cape," she mentions. "High-Spec's an experienced Tinker with years of tech under his belt. I'll point you in their direction." ||
  74. <CG|Artful> He raises an eyebrow at that, but hey, he's not going to complain about the backup.
  75. <CG|Artful> "What cape? They from the group you were just talking about?"
  76. <CG|Artful> ||

  91. <Antioch|GM> "Same to you," she replies, before hanging up.
  92. <Antioch|GM> His costume is ready to go, he's picked out a selection of full cans. He has a clear objective. ||
  93. <CG|Artful> That clear objective in mind, he puts his costume on, and slots all of his spray cans into place onto his belt. He doesn't have the cane anymore to complete the ensemble, but the costume is really starting to feel like his. He really feels like Artful Dodger. And there's one thing the Artful Dodger consistently did. He wins.
  94. <CG|Artful> He pulls out his phone to check his GPS coordinates, and then steps out to fly to the location. Time to see who this Nach whatever was.
  95. <CG|Artful> ||
  96. <Antioch|GM> |||
  97. <Antioch|GM> ...
  98. <Antioch|GM> The stripped-bare residential and commercial districts of northeast Cleveland are easy to navigate, in the air or by car. There's no traffic, nothing obscuring line of sight. Dodger scans the skies, seeing a massive plume of smoke rising from the location where he fought the Falconer.
  99. <Antioch|GM> Nachzehrer drives, feeling just faintly off as the spare tire changes the vibration of the car over poorly-maintained asphalt in a subtle and irritating manner. There aren't any of the tiny, thieving robots out on the street that she can see today. Up in the air, she spots a cape flying -- well, being launched through the air, really -- in the same direction
  100. <Antioch|GM> she's headed, and Dodger spots her from above at much the same time. ||
  101. <Antioch|GM> ((I'll do CG>Non>Me as just the general thing, but if you want to post out of order, just chime in with a ...))
  102. <CG|Artful> ...
  103. <CG|Artful> Dodger sees the person driving below him, and throws them a peace sign before accelerating ahead of them to drop down towards the rendezvous point with a flourish. The plume of smoke is interesting, but not unexpected. He's surprised more things aren't on fire right now.
  104. <CG|Artful> ||
  105. <Non|Nachzehrer> Ugh, a showboater. What, does he think she'll be impressed? Maybe she'll swoon? Oh, whatever. She pulls into the rendezvous point and stops her car, rolling her windshield dow. "Take it you're Dodger?" She calls out. ||
  106. <Antioch|GM> ...
  107. <Antioch|GM> Artful Dodger's in a tailored suit, though she can see the telltale outline of body armor beneath it, though the pants for his outfit look considerably more ragged. He wears a theater mask over his face, and a variety of spray paints looped onto his belt.
  108. <Antioch|GM> Nachzehrer, meanwhile, is in a suit of mostly-black armor with red highlighting, spikes here and there to deliver punches, grapples, and tackles with pain in mind. The armor looks like it's seen far better days, full of dents, dings, scuffs, and scrapes, but it's still more than serviceable. She's a lot shorter than he expected, though it's hard to tell just
  109. <Antioch|GM> how short while she's sitting in the car.

  113. <CG|Artful> Not one for appearances here, it seems. But Dodger isn't the type to judge over something like that. He thinks the armor probably fits her better all weathered and beaten up anyway. All the dings, and spikes showed that she wasn't someone to be fucked with. He could dig it.
  114. <CG|Artful> "Yeah that's me." He says as he approaches the vehicle.
  115. <CG|Artful> "Nachzherer, right?"
  116. <CG|Artful> ||
  117. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Nachzehrer," she corrects, careful to enunciate it. "But Nach's less of a mouthful. I broke up a bunch of High-Spec's toys, hop in and I can tell you about 'em." She unlocks the car doors. ||
  118. <CG|Artful> "Nach it is." He says, internally thanking the heavens that he won't have to say that full name everytime. He strolls around to the other side to slide into the passenger seat.

  121. <CG|Artful> ||
  122. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Yep," she says, locking the doors and pulling the car out of park, headed towards where the map said High-Spec's main set-up is. "Lasers and turrets, mostly. One electrocuted me. Had a robot drone in the basement near his generators, also into lasers, but pretty good at not breaking down, had to rip its limbs off.
  123. <Non|Nachzehrer> "He was working with, uhh, it was... Grease...monkey? Or Greaser. Fucktards need to get better names. Anyway, he was working with a Tinker who makes little robots that stole one of my car's tires. Just stomp on them and they die." She pauses for a moment, recalling his power. "Or use your air cannons or whatever. Shouldn't be much of a big deal." ||
  124. <Antioch|GM> ...
  125. <Antioch|GM> They talk and drive, not too distant from High-Spec's marked base of operations on RR's map. It's clearly evident where they're headed towards, a cluster of three suburban houses linked by a clusterfuck tangle of wires, cabling, three separate towers on the same scale that Nachzehrer shut down the day prior, and one particularly large, central one, nearly
  126. <Antioch|GM> twice the size and height of the others. ||\
  127. <Antioch|GM> * ||
  128. <CG|Artful> ...
  129. <CG|Artful> "There are so damn many of them it would be hard to remember them all anyway. Even if they were worth remembering." He shakes his head seeing the thing. His foot taps rapidly.
  130. <Antioch|GM> ((These are the little robots that dragged Falconer away, btw. In case it's relevant.))
  131. <CG|Artful> "Did you see any sign of another Tinker around here? I beat the Falconer around here the other day and some robots that sound like those dragged him off. Roulette was saying they might try and press gang him. Something to keep an eye out for maybe."
  132. <CG|Artful> ||
  133. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Just those two." Nach looks at the towers. "If it's like the last place I hit, there are a bunch of little laser turrets hidden under the lawn, and big multifunction turrets inside. Generators in the basement." She frowns. Doing it once was bad enough, three times over? Not her idea of a fun time. "Hey, can you throw other people without hurting them?" ||

  140. <CG|Artful> ||
  141. <Non|Nachzehrer> She frowns again. "Don't people normally get thrown out of cannons into, you know, nets," she asks, deadpan. "Oh, whatever." She parks the car. "Alright, generator's probably in the basement of the center one with the big tower, maybe High-Spec's home too. Don't see much point in dilly-dallying about this," she adds, turning off the car and putting the keys in a pouch inside her suit. Takes a bit of finagling to do it.
  142. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Okay, game plan," she says, voice serious. "Toss me at the center building, if you can make me hit a window that'd be nice. You'll want to follow after, probably." ||
  143. <Antioch|GM> ((There are both first and second-floor windows for this building, in case you want one in specific.))
  144. <CG|Artful> He smirks at her comment. She had a point. He was an acrobat and he had still almost pasted himself on multiple occasions.
  145. <CG|Artful> "You want me to just blast you into it? I mean I don't mind, but, yeah. She said you were a Brute or something?"
  146. <CG|Artful> ||
  147. <Antioch|GM> ((When you do the launch, it'll be an unmodified aim roll at DC 3, eliciting an Acrobatics roll for Nachzehrer on success -- or a Withstand roll, on a failure.))
  148. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Yeah. Enhanced strength and durability. Not superhuman, but I'm tougher than you'd expect, and I've got this armor for a reason. Getting thrown in through the window sounds better than getting burned up by a bunch of fucking laser turrets." She opens the car door, hopping out, boots hitting asphalt with a light thump. ||
  149. <CG|Artful> Dodger follows her example, and steps out on his side with no noticeable noise.

  212. <Antioch|GM> Dodger's shots angled into the wall don't seem to do much either -- the lasers seem to be embedded within holes bored into the concrete.

  217. <Non|Nachzehrer> She takes one of the couch cushions out, and briefly sticks it in the path of the lasers, before pulling it back to inspect the damage. ||
  218. <Antioch|GM> The scent of burning upholstery stinks up the stairwell for a brief moment before being ventilated by one of Dodger's tunnels. As she peers at it, the laser seems to have bored a slightly messy gouge into the cushion, with the fluff on the inside charred and vaguely gooey. ||

  227. <Antioch|GM> Stomping on the hardwood floor of the entryway gives her a sense of how thick the floor is, and breaking through seems more than feasible -- unfortunately, the thing that fits her criteria best is a decently sturdy-looking chair with a leg she could probably remove. There's a fireplace, but it's bereft of its usual accessories. ||
  228. <Antioch|GM> -||
  229. <Antioch|GM> The closes thing that Dodger finds on the first floor is the entertainment system that the wreck of the TV is sitting on. ||
  230. <CG|Artful> ...
  231. <CG|Artful> While Nach steps off, Dodger blasts the broken TV off of its stand to save time, and almost does the same to the entertainment system towards the staircase but decides he's probably going to need it in one piece. He pulls it over to the door way to see if it'll fit around the corner better than the couch.
  232. <CG|Artful> ||
  233. <Antioch|GM> It's long -- not quite as long as the couch. It'll fit, but it'll still be cumbersome to make the turn. ||
  234. <Non|Nachzehrer> Nach pulls off the chair leg and heads over to the hardwood floor. All she's got to do is get some decent penetration, Dodger's power can probably do the rest. She balances it, then slams a boot down on it to shove it in as hard as she can. ||
  235. <CG|Artful> ((I'll let her do her thing real quick.))
  236. <Antioch|GM> The chair leg isn't -quite- sharp enough to pierce the floor on the first try, but gouging a small hole with the spikes in her armor and driving the leg into the resultant divot gives her enough purchase to hammer it down a few further inches. ||

  246. <Antioch|GM> Thwam, thwam. The chair leg's driven through the floor in its entirety, falling through the hole. It leaves behind a gap that isn't quite big enough to squeeze through, but wide enough to stick both hands into the gap and rip it wider.

  278. <Antioch|GM> Where the two machines differ from the last time -- that she can tell -- is that they're both equipped with some form of melee weaponry. 443. <Antioch|GM> As Nachzehrer finally topples the electric-handed mech, Dodger arcs the dislodged generator towards the buzzsaw-wielding mech, but it hits the wall behind it, detonating. Electricity bursts from exploded generator, washing over the robot, but it seems unfazed.
  444. <Antioch|GM> It swings its bladed fist down at Nachzehrer, but her dodge allows the blow to carve through the chestplate of the electric mech, leaving behind a messy, sparking gouge -- the electric hand seems to have powered down. ||

  489. <Antioch|GM> As Nachzehrer clings to the sole remaining mech, it lumbers towards Dodger, taking a swipe at him as he prepares to launch the generator at the turret. He can't slip away in time, still physically reeling from the very serious shock to his system.
  490. <Antioch|GM> As he panics, gut instinct takes over, and rather than launch the generator, taking the type to output the force needed to dislodge it, he sends himself hurtling towards the turret, already locked onto his oncoming form. The beam, up close, shears through his cheek, and he can feel his face on fire -- he impacts the turret hard, sending both of them crashing
  491. <Antioch|GM> into the ground.
  492. <Antioch|GM> The buzzsaw mech can't course correct sufficiently, striking the generator -- it reacts poorly, shorting out in a mighty clap of electricity that causes her to lose her grip on the machine and tumble down ass-first into the ground, dazed and reeling. 518. <Antioch|GM> Still no sign of High-Spec. They're supposed to be taking him out and kicking his ass, or at the very least, delaying him, but it seems all he's been doing thus far is combating them via proxy. ||

  525. <Antioch|GM> ((Just the two next to the 'bot docks left, for reference, Cogo.))
  526. <CG|Artful> "Man I'm gonna fuck this guy up, what a pain in the ass." Dodger mutters, mostly to himself as he angrily moves to a safe spot and launches both generators into the walls behind them. 528. <Non|Nachzehrer> ||
  529. <Antioch|GM> He spends a moment trashing the room, getting carried away and trashing the bots into hunks of metal debris. The generators blow up, though they're a safe distance away when it happens. In the end, they're left standing (shakily, in Dodger's case) in the middle of a ruined basement filled with scrap metal and occasionally sparking wires. ||
  530. <Non|Nachzehrer> ...
  531. <Non|Nachzehrer> "Not that I don't love smashing things too, but let's hop up, see what we can't find," she says, headed towards the stairs. Hopefully the lasers are, in fact, off. "Might could figure out where he is. The tower's a good spotting position," she adds, having had experience in a similar set-up. ||
