  1. This is a list of deaths Elodie must avoid, in order of appearance in the game. AVOID doing these things if you want Elodie to live!
  2.
  3. Note that this HARDLY scratches the surface of all the things that happen in the game; I'm just trying to help chat to avoid getting Elodie killed.
  4.
  5. Elodie cannot possibly die before Week 7, and even that doesn't require any checks. The soonest she can die by flunking checks is Week 16, which gives you guys PLENTY of time to raise appropriate stats.
  6.
  7. ------------.
  8. WEEK 7 |
  9. ------------'
  10.
  11. Safety Strats: Don't execute Julianna.
  12.
  13. "Choked on magical chains?"
  14. * Arrest Julianna during Week 2, and then attempt to order her execution anytime Week 7 or after once it's an option. She doesn't take well to it.
  15.
  16. ------------.
  17. WEEK 16 |
  18. ------------'
  19.
  20. Safety Strats: Don't piss off Banion.
  21.
  22. "Gotten too close to a sword?"
  23. * Anger Banion, or use magic during Week 10, then decide to go to the Procession of the Good Lady, and Elodie will have to face an assassin. Elodie can die in this way while facing him if she fights him, or can't even avoid his initial attack.
  24. -> You flunk the initial Reflexes/Flexibility check (30+ for Partial Success).
  25. -> You get by that, but choose to fight him, and totally fail the fight's check (Polearms must be at least 30 to come away alive).
  26.
  27. [Initial attack check is Reflexes OR Flexibility 30+ for a Partial Pass (Elodie gets hurt); for Total Success, she must have Reflexes 80+ OR Flexibility 50+ (she'll be unharmed).]
  28. [As for the fight itself, success possibility depends if Elodie is fine or got hurt. If she's fine, the Polearms check is 50+. If she got hurt, Polearms must be 80+.]
  29.
  30. "Let your blood run dry?"
  31. * Anger Banion, or use magic during Week 10, then decide to go to the Procession of the Good Lady, and Elodie will have to face an assassin. Elodie can die in this way while facing him if she fights with magic, or attempts to run.
  32. -> You get a Partial Pass on Reflexes (30-79) or Flexibility (30-49), but then FAIL a Battlefield Medicine check (20), and choose to:
  33. ---> Run Away: Elodie will bleed to death.
  34. ---> Blast Him With Magic: If you fail a Wield Magic (perfect 100) check, Elodie's blood runs dry and she dies.
  35.
  36. [To run, you need to get Total Success on the initial check as described above, OR, alternately, a Partial Pass will work IF you PASS the Battlefield Medicine check of 20+. If you pass those, she can run if her Running is 40+.]
  37. [To blast him with magic, the check is now Wield Magic; it's 60+ if she's fine, but if she's hurt, a perfect score of 100 is required.]
  38.
  39. (By the way, if you arrested Julianna, and haven't decided what to do with her by now, she will escape this week.)
  40.
  41. ------------.
  42. WEEK 17 |
  43. ------------'
  44.
  45. Safety Strats: Don't piss off Banion.
  46.
  47. "Gotten too close to a sword?"
  48. * Anger Banion during Week 10 so he insults Elodie during the Grand Ball this week. Talarist must not be present to intervene in the argument. Elect to challenge him to a duel with insufficient skill.
  49.
  50. Checks to Pass (If you're going to duel him):
  51. -> Swords 30+
  52. -> Athletics 40+
  53. -> Swords 70+
  54.
  55. ------------.
  56. WEEK 20 |
  57. ------------'
  58.
  59. Safety Strats: The scenario with this man always happens, so the best course of action if you aren't sure is not to press magic-based options.
  60.
  61. "Choked on magical chains?"
  62. There's a guy who killed his wife. Elodie can die when deciding what to do about him if she's a Lumen; if she passes an 80+ Sense Magic check, and chooses any Lumen-based options, such as to ask him about the crystal, but fails all subsequent checks (that is, firstly, if Elodie won't wait for Julianna [she'll wait if Wield Magic 30+ or Resist Magic 40+], and then her Flexibility score or Reflexes + Running total score isn't at least 50), the magical chains will be around her neck in no time.
  63.
  64. ------------.
  65. WEEK 28 |
  66. ------------'
  67.
  68. Safety Strats: Don't go to Gwenelle's party if you haven't dealt with Lucille; stay home.
  69.
  70. "Taken an arrow to the gut?"
  71. Lucille will have a sniper attempt to shoot you with an arrow en-route to Gwenelle's party if you elect to go and you haven't eliminated her as a threat. For those who simply must attend the party:
  72.
  73. * If you HAVEN'T done ANY of the following (Doing ANY of these things will work, you don't have to do several):
  74. -> Killed Lucille AND have 45+ Commoner Appeal
  75. -> Made Lucille into an ally
  76. -> Decided to hire more bodyguards during Week 18
  77.
  78. Then, Checks to Pass:
  79. -> Archery + Reflexes = 100+: Elodie will hear the bow being loaded and fired, and will know to dodge. She won't even get hit, and survives automatically. If she flunks this check, she'll be hit.
  80. -> If She Gets Hit:
  81. ---> Step 1: Battlefield Medicine 70+: She will know how to properly care for the wound.
  82. [Flunking this check causes her not to know how to handle the wound correctly in the first place; she'll die from improper wound care. However, passing this alone is not enough! See below.]
  83. ---> Step 2: Composure OR Meditation 50+: She will be able to take care of the wound without screaming, which will enable her to survive.
  84. [If she flunks this last check, even though she will tend her wound properly, she'll lack the composure to keep herself from screaming out in pain as she does so, which will attract more arrows, resulting in her dying anyway.]
  85.
  86. ------------.
  87. WEEK 29 |
  88. ------------'
  89.
  90. Safety Strats: If you're in a state of civil war at this point, this can't happen, because Briony becomes a pawn to Elodie if she's available to her at this point. Not bringing Briony home with you also avoids this. However, if you went to Sudbury and brought her back with you, you might as well go to the forest with her, because no matter what you tell her, she's going, and if she goes by herself, she will definitely die (and that in turn will anger Kevan enough to challenge you in a duel that can kill Elodie during the tournament in Week 33).
  91.
  92. "Fallen victim to monsters?"
  93. * Agree to go to Kathre Lake with Briony, and fail all the checks.
  94.
  95. Checks to Pass (If you go to the forest with Briony):
  96. -> Sense Magic 50+
  97. -> Running 50+
  98. -> Horses 70+
  99.
  100. ------------.
  101. WEEK 32 |
  102. ------------'
  103.
  104. Safe Strats: Do something about Lucille beforehand if possible. If you can't, having to deal with this in some manner is unavoidable.
  105.
  106. "Been poisoned?"
  107. * If you haven't killed or recruited Lucille by this point, she'll send Elodie chocolates. They're poisoned. Elodie faces probable death if she eats them.
  108.
  109. To get away with not eating the chocolates:
  110. -> You can unlock an option for "Save Them For Later" if you have Production + Trade = 60+, Court Manners 80+, or Dogs 50+.
  111. -> If you unlock "Save Them For Later," then Intrigue = 100 (perfect score) unlocks "Test Them For Poison."
  112. -> If you can test them for poison, DO IT. All possible options from that point allow Elodie to not eat them (depending on how it pans out, she might properly test and discover they're poisoned, give them to Arisse, or even bury them, but in any case, she ain't eatin' 'em).
  113.
  114. If Elodie eats the chocolates:
  115. -> Poison 70+: Elodie will be able to identify her symptoms as poisoning, and she will be smart enough to act swiftly enough in the right manner to cure herself.
  116. [A Partial Pass of 10-69 will still allow Elodie to correctly identify that she's been poisoned, but she will unwisely ask a maid to fetch charcoal for her; the maid won't arrive back in time.]
  117.
  118. ------------.
  119. WEEK 33 |
  120. ------------'
  121.
  122. Safe Strats: Don't participate in any tournament events whatsoever. This avoids all challenges that can kill Elodie.
  123.
  124. Notes: Briony can die from multiple causes; Arisse can only die by your order if you execute her after fighting the rebels during Week 31.
  125.
  126. "Gotten too close to a sword?"
  127. * Somehow cause the deaths of Briony and/or Arisse, then go to the tournament and accept Kevan's challenge. Choose anything OTHER than a stave as your weapon, and fail the checks.
  128.
  129. -> To bypass this with magic, pick "Kill Him With Magic" and pass a Wield Magic 60+ check.
  130. -> To bypass this by running, pick "Refuse" and pass a Reflexes + Running = 80+ check. (If you fail this, Falcons 80+ will have your falcon distract him instead, allowing Elodie to get away.)
  131. -> To bypass this with a sword, pick "Accept" then "Swords." If Elodie is tired, she must first pass a general category check for Athletics 120+. Regardless, she must pass a Swords 90+ check.
  132.
  133. "Cracked your skull?"
  134. * Somehow cause the deaths of Briony and/or Arisse, then go to the tournament and accept Kevan's challenge. Choose a stave as your weapon and fail the checks.
  135.
  136. To bypass this with staves, if she's tired she has to pass a general Athletics category 120+ check, then she must pass checks for Polearms 50+, and Polearms + Flexibility = 100+.
  137.
  138. ------------.
  139. WEEK 35 |
  140. ------------'
  141.
  142. Safe Strats: For once, there aren't any; this is the big battle you've basically been preparing for the entire game. Week 35 is when you're forced out into the open with checks no matter how you slice it.
  143.
  144. "Blown yourself up?"
  145. * Choose to sink the enemy fleet with magic. Then, fail a general Lumen category check of 200+ with a circle of 3 Lumen, or fail a check of Lumen category 120+ with a circle of 4 Lumen.
  146.
  147. "Drowned at sea?"
  148. You can get this two different ways, so make sure you bypass both!
  149. -> If Elodie chooses to sink the fleet with a circle of 4 Lumen (Julianna, Selene, Lucille, and herself), but fails a Wield Magic check requiring a perfect score of 100 (causing her to need to get close to the enemy fleet), but then manages to PASS a general Lumen category check of 200+, she'll be too overpowered for such a short distance, and a freak wave she causes overtakes her ship, causing her to drown.
  150. -> Refuse the magic ritual, or have Elodie refuse her crystal, choosing to lead the fleet in person; if she then loses the naval battle and its subsequent last-ditch survival checks, she drowns.
  151.
  152. TO WIN AS TEAM MAGIC:
  153.
  154. -----4-Lumen Checks-----
  155. ---> Wield Magic (Perfect 100) to enable Distance Fight. Otherwise, you have to approach.
  156.
  157. ---> Distance Fight
  158. ------> Total Success: Lumen category (200+): You win outright by sinking the entire fleet with magic.
  159. ------> Partial Success: Lumen category (120-199): You damage but don't destroy the enemy; proceed to Team Might strats.
  160. ------> Flunk: Lumen category (Under 120): Blow yourself up and die.
  161.
  162. ---> Up-Close Fight
  163. ------> Overpowered: Lumen category (200+): You annihilate the enemy, but are overtaken by a freak wave you cause, and drown anyway.
  164. ------> Success: Lumen category (120-199): You damage but don't destroy the enemy; proceed to Team Might strats.
  165. ------> Flunk: Lumen category (Under 120): Blow yourself up and die.
  166.
  167. -----3-Lumen Checks-----
  168. ---> Wield Magic (Perfect 100) to enable Distance Fight. Otherwise, you have to approach.
  169.
  170. ---> Distance Fight
  171. ------> Total Success: Lumen category (Perfect 300): You win outright by sinking the entire fleet with magic.
  172. ------> Partial Success: Lumen category (200-299): You damage but don't destroy the enemy; proceed to Team Might strats.
  173. ------> Flunk: Lumen category (Under 200): Blow yourself up and die.
  174.
  175. ---> Up-Close Fight
  176. ------> Total Success: Lumen category (200+): You damage but don't destroy the enemy; proceed to Team Might strats.
  177. ------> Flunk: Lumen category (Under 200): Blow yourself up and die.
  178.
  179. TO WIN AS TEAM MIGHT:
  180.
  181. You will need to do the actual naval battle if Elodie is not a Lumen, or if she survives her magic failing to sink the enemy fleet.
  182.
  183. To win the actual battle, Elodie must have hired a ton of soldiers throughout the game previously (the more, the better), not lose too many/any of them, AND have enough ships. Bonuses from her military expertise will also be factored in.
  184. [NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SHIPS, YOU WILL *ALWAYS* LOSE REGARDLESS OF YOUR BONUSES.]
  185.
  186. Here's what's factored into the naval battle:
  187.
  188. If you ceded control of your territory in Week 10, Court Manners 60+ will add more ships to your fleet (an Ixion flotilla).
  189.
  190. -> Climbing 60+: She climbs the crow's nest for a better view.
  191. -> Wield Magic 60+: She'll act as a cannon and inflict some damage to the enemies.
  192. -> Your entire Military category score will also be added as a bonus, UNLESS you have a rock-bottom 0 in Naval Strategy, in which case whatever other Military score you've got will be SUBTRACTED and act as a PENALTY.
  193.
  194. ^ There's no actual checks here that you absolutely have to pass (the Climbing and Wielding help, but aren't necessarily mandatory), but the amount of score you end up with still matters because it will use everything you've got, so boost those scores as high as you can!
  195.
  196. So now, your general outcome depends on the number of troops and ships on your side, plus any relevant bonuses.
  197.
  198. If Elodie outright wins the naval battle, of course, everything's fine. If she loses, she's in trouble.
  199.
  200. LAST-DITCH SURVIVAL:
  201.
  202. Even if she loses the naval battle, she can STILL survive IF:
  203. -> Strategy + Naval Strategy = 150 or more = She survives.
  204. -> If the above is flunked, her Swimming must be at least 50 to have a chance at survival; if it's under 50, she drowns instantly.
  205. -> Swimming 50-99 (Partial Pass): Composure or Meditation must be 70+ to escape. If it isn't, she drowns.
  206. -> Swimming 100 (Perfect): She can swim back to land.
  207.
  208. ------------.
  209. WEEK 36 |
  210. ------------'
  211.
  212. Safety Strats: I'd say "win the naval battle," but that isn't an easy task, so I'll just say there aren't really safety strats here.
  213.
  214. "Been blasted by magic?"
  215. * Be a Lumen, and lose the naval battle the week before, but survive it. Choose to accept the terms, but fail even the initial Resist Magic 60+ check.
  216.
  217. "Had your life drained?"
  218. * Be a Lumen, and lose the naval battle the week before, but survive it. Choose to accept the terms, passing the initial check of Resist Magic 60+, but failing the subsequent Sense Magic 60+ and Resist Magic 100 check.
  219.
  220. Both of these can be avoided by having ample magic capacities, which is possible, since even if you have amazing magic skill, you might still have lost last week's naval battle by simply not having enough ships. If you lost because Elodie sucks at being a Lumen, then, well, her death here is basically inevitable.
  221.
  222. ------------.
  223. WEEK 37 |
  224. ------------'
  225.
  226. Safety Strats: Don't sacrifice yourself, and don't sacrifice Charlotte if Lucille's still alive.
  227.
  228. "Had your life drained?"
  229. * Succeed at the magic ritual in Week 35, then choose to sacrifice Charlotte with Lucille still being alive. (You have to have discovered Charlotte's powers, and you have to pass a Cruelty 10+ check to get this death.)
  230.
  231. "Fallen victim to monsters?"
  232. * Succeed at the magic ritual in Week 35, and stupidly choose to sacrifice yourself (Elodie).
  233.
  234. ------------.
  235. WEEK 39 |
  236. ------------'
  237.
  238. Safety Strats: Have above-0 Commoner Approval.
  239.
  240. "Cracked your skull?"
  241. * Be a Lumen, having gotten to this point with LESS than 0 Commoner Approval; the peasants will revolt.
