Only Wakinyan had ever made a God and he alone knew the ceremony for doing this. But he was busy upon the huge mountain at the edge of the world, hatching his young from an egg and could not leave it. So Skan asked if anyone present would undertake to perform the ceremony and all the Gods were afraid to do so.

The Great Bear has often slept upon the ground near the lodge of Wakinyan upon the huge mountain at the edge of the world and had there learned the secrets of the ceremony for making a God which Wakinyan always performed when he hatched his young. So he appeared before Skan and said that he would show the Gods how to perform this ceremony.
