  1. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  2. Hey, how are you?
  3.
  4. Das - 11/09/2017
  5. Hey. Doing good. Yourself?
  6.
  7. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  8. Great, thanks. Are you available to chat?
  9.
  10. Das - 11/09/2017
  11. Yup.
  12.
  13. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  14. Awesome. Mind if we're on the record?
  15.
  16. Das - 11/09/2017
  17. No problem.
  18.
  19. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  20. Awesome. So when did you start playing FFXIV and how did you discover RPing?
  21.
  22. Das - 11/09/2017
  23. I started playing back in around 2.2, I think. I can't exactly remember when. I've been RPing since long before that, though; my first time discovering it was back in vanilla WoW.
  24. If I recall correctly, a friend of mine just started doing it and I got dragged into it.
  25.
  26. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  27. What did you enjoy about it?
  28.
  29. Das - 11/09/2017
  30. It's always nice to be able to be that ideal character that I'm thinking of. I've always found working out ways to put out ideas that other people can engage with just a really enjoyable experience. I think it's a great way to socialise and to really explore the lore of the game that you're in, as well.
  31.
  32. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  33. What tools do you use to RP outside of words?
  34.
  35. Das - 11/09/2017
  36. Can you elaborate a little on what you mean by tools? Do you mean additional platforms or just things like emotes?
  37.
  38. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  39. Yeah, like emotes or items.
  40.
  41. Das - 11/09/2017
  42. I use emotes if the situation calls for it. A lot of the emotes in FFXIV in particular are a little bit too over-the-top for the types of characters I tend to portray. The Miqo'te /happy with all the jumping and cheering would feel incredibly out of place on my main character, but I use emotes like /sit and /groundsit quite often just to help convey the scene as being a part of the game world involving the player avatars as opposed to just sitting and staring at a chatbox - if you want to do that you might as well just RP on Discord or some other text-based medium.
  43. Items are kind of in the same boat. Things like the fireworks or the Realm Reborn Red are just a bit too silly in most cases. I'm sure there's a few exceptions I'm forgetting, however.
  44.
  45. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  46. What's your character like?
  47.
  48. Das - 11/09/2017
  49. My main is kind of hard to describe, and depends a lot on the situation she's found in. Generally she's quite reserved and keeps to herself, but she has a short temper and can run her mouth for days if she's annoyed. With her friends she more of a wisecracker, throwing around inappropriate jokes as if they were going out of style. Overall she's quite difficult to like, but the right kind of characters get along with her really well.
  50.
  51. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  52. She sounds very cool
  53.
  54. Das - 11/09/2017
  55. People usually say that until they meet her in character for the first time and either get upset by something she says or vice versa.
  56.
  57. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  58. Hahaha.
  59.
  60. Das - 11/09/2017
  61. But thank you.
  62.
  63. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  64. Well, I get that.
  65. Do you ERP, too?
  66.
  67. Das - 11/09/2017
  68. I do.
  69.
  70. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  71. Can you tell me a little about when you started that?
  72.
  73. Das - 11/09/2017
  74. It was kind of an accident, I think. I started doing it back in vanilla WoW and I wasn't exactly sure what was going on to begin with. If I recall correctly it kind of happened naturally between my character and their partner at the time.
  75.
  76. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  77. Was this an in-game partner?
  78.
  79. Das - 11/09/2017
  80. Yeah. I didn't know anything about the player on the other side of the avatar.
  81.
  82. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  83. Got it. So in FFXIV, what is the ERP scene like? There's a lot of privacy now.
  84.
  85. Das - 11/09/2017
  86. I'm not too sure. I had my fill of being very into the ERP scene in a few games before this one and all of the drama made me wary moving forwards. I don't really seek ERP with many people outside of a few friends on FFXIV.
  87. From what I do know however, there's been a few public groups. On Balmung there are or were a couple of FCs - Keeper's Kiss and (I think) Velvet Rose - that actually have members who offer ERP for in-game currency.
  88. You've also got the Quicksands which is kind of a minature version of the Lion's Pride Inn from WoW - everybody's deathly silent except a few people RPing (non-ERP) at the tables, but there's this ring of skimpily dressed characters who line the railings and they usually have ERP-related information on the character info.
  89.
  90. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  91. Can you tell me a little about how ERP is initiated a lot of the time? Do people have specific outfits they wear or places they go?
  92.
  93. Das - 11/09/2017
  94. Well, I already mentioned the Quicksands. If you're looking for something and you're not really too fussed, most people would go there, slap on some skimpy outfit and make sure that their search info says they're open for ERP or something similar. Generally if you see people hanging around the railing that circles the middle seating area they're more often than not there for ERP.
  95. A lot of that is initiated in /tell. One person will usually approach and express interest either in character or out of character and they go from there.
  96.
  97. Other places I think would be the benches just outside the Quicksand in the Ruby Exchange Avenue, but that's also a gathering place for some of the raiders on Balmung as well, some of whom also ERP there.
  98. You'd probably be hard pressed to run into people looking for ERP anywhere else, but there are a few popular spots that people sometimes go with friends or they take a hookup to - like the Shirogane and Kugane hotsprings, or Hermit's Hovel in Outer La Noscea.
  99.
  100. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  101. Got it. And so, where does ERP actually take place? In people's homes?
  102. I remember in FFXI there were certain hidden public spots, but all people could do really was /sit
  103.
  104. Das - 11/09/2017
  105. It could be anywhere, really. It depends on people's preference. Some people just do it on the spot in the Quicksands in /tell and just ignore everything else around them since they're only there for ERP. Other people like to go places that are secluded, like Hermit's Hovel, the hotsprings, their private houses, or just some place in the game world they don't expect people to run past. A lot of the places aren't difficult to get to, either, it's just that there's never any reason to go there, so people wouldn't look.
  106. How many people run down towards the Sultantree outside the Ul'dah gates past the first part of the Ul'dah starting story, for example?
  107.
  108. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  109. No idea.
  110. So this brings me to my next question, which is do people use /doze to ERP?
  111. And did the introduction of /doze poses change ERP?
  112.
  113. Das - 11/09/2017
  114. It's not used exclusively for ERP, and for some people it may have done. The thing to remember is that people were ERPing long before /doze existed, so a lot of the desciptions for the positions were just that: description in text. Before /doze people would just /sit on the edge of beds instead.
  115. People definitely use it now because just like how you'd want your character to be sitting if they're sitting in the RP scene you'd /sit, you'd have your character /doze on the bed if they're in it with somebody else, but I don't think it's changed anything.
  116.
  117. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  118. So I guess I'm wondering whether all the /doze poses has made the physical aspect of ERP more vivid?
  119.
  120. Das - 11/09/2017
  121. I'd say minorly.
  122.
  123. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  124. Got it.
  125. Yeah, I was surprised they added more poses for /doze, which is only used privately, since its so clearly..... not just for dozing.
  126.
  127. Das - 11/09/2017
  128. Assuming it's just for sleeping because it's called dozing I think is a bit of a mistake. It's kind of like how some people use the /goodbye wave just as a generic wave because they think it looks nicer than some of the more arm-flailing waves.
  129.
  130. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  131. Could you elaborate on that?
  132.
  133. Das - 11/09/2017
  134. I've had scenes where a character has been wounded and was bedridden, so /doze was used to have them lie in the bed while the person roleplaying as the chirurgeon went about tending to their wounds.
  135.
  136. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  137. Got it.
  138.
  139. Das - 11/09/2017
  140. Roleplayers will find creative uses for almost any emote, is the thing. There was a Reddit post very soon after the pushup emote was introduced showing two players using it in a suggestive manner, and even some of the /sit poses can be suggestive in the right combinations.
  141.
  142. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  143. Haha, I saw that thread.
  144. What other surprising emotes are used for ERP?
  145.
  146. Das - 11/09/2017
  147. In the actual act, not many. I think people would find it hard to keep a straight face and roleplay while using the pushup emote in that manner, but so many emotes can be paused at the right time in /gpose to get a suggestive angle.
  148.
  149. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  150. Hahaha.
  151. I'm not sure I have any other questions for you about this. I really appreciate how open and candid you've been with me!
  152. I know a lot of these questions were pretty invasive.
  153.
  154. Das - 11/09/2017
  155. They weren't too bad. It's a subject I've never really minded because it's just a part of roleplaying communties now. There's no avoiding or denying that it happens so I feel it's best to answer questions and hopefully get people to realise that it's not all there is to roleplaying.
  156.
  157. Cecianasta - 11/09/2017
  158. Thank you again!
  159.
  160. Das - 11/09/2017
  161. No problem.
