- Adverbial order (for adverbs and phrases that go after the verb phrase):
- manner (how?)
- place (where?)
- frequency (how often?)
- time (when?)
- purpose (why?)
- ---
- Some adverbs usually go before the verb, such as adverbs of frequency and indefinite adverbs of time. (“recently” and “previously” are indefinite, “yesterday” is definite)
- ---
- p. 34 exercise 3 - Underline the adverbials and decide what type each one is.
- ---
- p. 33 and 36 are about the order of adverbials. The best way to get familiar with the correct order in English is to read lots of good writing and occasionally take the time to do something like this, where you pay attention to the position of every adverbial or every article or so on.
- ---
- p. 35 exercise 5 - Stand up and ask each question to a different classmate. Write a sentence about their answer (including their name).
- ---
- Homework: p. 35 exercise 4 - Add the two adverbials to each sentence in the correct positions. (Sometimes more than one answer is correct.)
