Q: What is Pokemon Emerald Kaizo?
A: Emerald Kaizo is a difficulty ROM hack of Pokémon Emerald by SinisterHoodedFigure (SHF). It makes all 386 Gen 3 Pokémon available to the player, but only after beating the Elite 4. No Items can be used during battles, except for held Items and Pokéballs, EVs are completely removed from the game, and setup and stat reducing moves are almost completely removed. The majority of Pokémon have altered stats and learnsets and the game’s movepool has been updated. Emerald Kaizo features new overworld puzzles and extremely hard boss fights, while limiting player resources to increase difficulty even further.

Q: What stats are you looking for in the starter?
A: Because I RNG Manipulate the start it was always be 20 HP (For Torchic/Treeko), 21 HP (for Mudkip), Male Gender, and Naughty Nature with 21/23/28/30/29/29 in IVs across the board. Unless I state otherwise it is guaranteed to be the same for every starter every single time.


Q: Why are there patches of grass in the city?
A: Emerald Kaizo was designed with greater encounter distribution and variety in mind. SinisterHoodedFigure (SHF), the hack creator, added patches of grass to all the cities in the game so that more Pokémon can be encountered.

Q: Why are you streaming this in the Sword/Shield Directory?
A: Due to the sheer number of mainline Pokémon games Twitch has agreed to let streamers stream in the newest Pokémon game category to make it easier for viewers to find streams.


Q: Why did you pick the starter you picked?
A: Torchic is absolutely insane in the early portions of the game, especially against Roxanne once it evolves into Combusken. As a Fire/Fighting type, it is extremely capable and a very valuable asset throughout the entire game. Treecko is amazing as well due to it being probably the fastest Grass type Pokemon you can get your hands on. Mudkip kinda sucks early on and can easily be replaced with things like Barboach and Quagsire.


Q: Why do Roxanne and Brawly have increased level caps?
A: Unless you're very lucky, level 15 level cap requires very specific encounters to surpass Roxanne (Luvdisc, Sunflora). Since I do not want to constantly hunt for the same team over and over again, I've decided to go with a community agreed upon +1 level cap of 16 for her. Brawly is also pretty much in the same situation where a level 19 cap would make for boring repetitive content and so I choose to also have a +1 level cap for Brawly.


Q: Why do you have so many berries?
A: The version of Emerald Kaizo Pulse is playing is patched to give 255 Berries upon picking a Berry Tree. This change was implemented solely to get rid of the absolute tediousness of grinding for Berries.

Berry Farming is possible in Emerald Kaizo, it just takes a long time to grow Berries; therefore, it is possible to grind a large number of Berries by changing your system time over and over. The current patch merely speeds this process up.


Q: Why do you have so many Rare Candies?
A: Since there are no EVs in this game and I can take my time grinding I put Rare Candies in to save time and produce content for you guys. It's just tedious in the end and I will only grind to edge my levels.


Q: Where did you get the Rare Candies?
A: I hacked them in through PKHex.


Q: Isn't that cheating?
A: Hardly. The true goal is to beat the challenge and not having to grind gives me more time to do that.


Q: Are friendship evolutions changed in Emerald Kaizo?
A: Friendship evolutions, as well as base friendship values, are identical between Emerald Kaizo and vanilla Emerald. However, the version of Emerald Kaizo Pulse is playing is patched to turn friendship evolutions into level-up evolutions.
