- Spoilers For Captain America: Civil War
- Holy shit this movie was long.
- But it’s fine, because that’s a good thing! Now, before I say anything, I’ll just say that I’m giving it a 10/10.
- “*Scoff* DeNile! You probably didn’t even look at the bad things!” Shut up, I’m an optimist.
- Now, I love this movie. Let’s begin with like, Tom Holland or something.
- When he was first announced as Spider-Man, I went “Er… isn’t he a bit too young to be Peter Parker?” But then I did my research and came to the conclusion that no. No he is not. He looks younger than he actually is, of course. Anyway, I think he did great! I mean, most people expect Spider-Man to be snarky and cracking one liners every three seconds, but what Holland did was show Peter’s enthusiasm for being around his favorite heroes. Peter Parker at that point in life was an awkward highschooler, and Holland executed that perfectly.
- Antman! He did some cool stuff. I mean, he likely had a total of 12 minutes of screentime, but still. He gets to go huge! Like, REALLY big! And Spider-Man references Empire Strikes Back and ties him up at the legs to knock him down. He also does this cool arrow thing with Hawkeye where he goes into Tony’s suit.
- BLACK PANTHER! He was fucking amazing in this movie, holy shit. I was never really a big fan of him in the comics, but in this? Christ, I can’t believe it. The way his actor portrayed him, the way he moves, his motivations, all phenomenal.
- Now to the more overall stuff. One issue I had with this movie is that it seems half an hour too long, and that time is spent on the wrong stuff. It’d probably be just fanservice, but I personally wanted to see way more of Peter and Scott interacting with the other heroes.
- By the way, the action in this movie is just… wow. Early on, Bucky does a thing with an oncoming motorcycle that made the theatre filled with 300+ people all go “WOAH!”. And basically every scene Peter is in is like “wow! Golly gosh gee!”
- All the performances were spot on, though I felt that Sam could’ve been a bit more expressive. Same goes for Bucky, but that’s Bucky, so it’s a given.
- Can I talk about how much I love Wanda for a bit? Because I do. She’s fucking awesome and it pains me everytime someone in this movie talks down to her or makes her feel bad. Elizabeth Olsen is fantastic and I adore her.
- No Hulk or Thor though. But they’re probably busy.
- Anyway, I felt that the ending could’ve given us a bit more of a resolution to some members of Team Cap being locked up, but the mid-credits scene is basically like “it’s fine lol”.
- Downey Jr. was fantastic as always. When it’s revealed that Bucky was the murderer of his parents, the mixture of sadness and rage is very clear. And you THINK he’s going to be chill, because he looks to Bucky and doesn’t do anything. But then, he looks to Cap and says “Did you know about this?”
- And when Cap replies “Yes”, he fucking loses it. His helmet clicks on immediately and he goes ballistic. It’s an amazing fight scene between the three.
- Now for a complaint that isn’t really about the movie, but the marketing… The trailers were made to get everyone hyped, right? And it worked. But… if they didn’t show off Spider-Man, seeing him onscreen would be so much more “WOW!”
- Oh, and every fight scene in the trailers? Yeah those are the best ones. They blew their load before the movie was even out. And there’s one fight scene between Bucky, Tony, and Steve in the trailer… but in the movie, once Tony makes a truce with them? Yeah, that fight hasn’t happened yet. So you think “oh. ok, so something’s gonna happen to make them fight. ok.” So that was something.
- Anyway yeah. Fantastic movie. But make sure you have the time to watch it, because it’s long.
