The giant was wild with rage and grief as he realised he was wounded – his heart nearly burst – how he wished he’d killed the knight at the start! Determined to land a telling blow he wielded his club in fury, bent on killing him on the spot; the blow plummeted down; but Perceval was an agile swordsman and on his mettle and leapt back, and the mighty blow crashed down with
such force that the colossal club was smashed to pieces. Perceval, exultant, rushed to attack him with his sword, and dealt him such an awesome blow that it sheared an ear from his head, severed shoulder and arm and cut into his side as far as the lung. The giant collapsed unconscious, and Perceval didn’t hesitate but plunged his good sword right through his body. The giant was dead; the battle was over.
