  1. The Material Plane represents only a small part of the multiverse. Beyond the best-known planes of existence lie realms that are lethal to mortal life. Some are so hostile that eve a moment’s contact with such a place is enough to plunge a mortal mind into madness. Yet, beings do exist that are native to these realms: being that are eternally hungering, searching, sometimes dreaming. These Elder Evils are far older than most of the mortal races and always horrific to humanoid minds.
  2.
  3. Yet, despite their power, hunger, malice, rage, and patience, these beings are powerless to enter the planes of existence without help and the name of such accomplices are known as the Star Spawn. These cultists who blaspheme reality by calling out to the Elder Evils often speak of a Far Realm from which these entities hail. In truth, there is no one place from which they come. There is the multiverse of things that are, and there is the multiverse of things that shouldn’t be.
  4.
  5. The goal of the Star Spawn is to tap energy sources in the Material Planes and bridge the gap between the vulnerable sanity of the Material Realm and the squirming insanity of an Elder Evil’s Prison. In places where these cultists’ influence is felt strongest and where their vile rituals have been permitted to progress the furthest, reality grows thin and distorted. Time, such as it is, stops progressing in a strictly linear manner, and the dead are often able to mingle with the living. Walking into one’s dreams as easily as one might enter a house through an unlocked door.

  7. It is there, in a place of madness where events looped, or their conclusion occurred before their construction and the very air vibrated with unclean things that a girl named Abigail was born. A sickly girl with white hair as white as that of a crone a hundred times her age and a body that was outwardly youthful yet inwardly decrepit, the young girl was imbued with the power permeating the unholy place of her birth. Her surname “Eophan Graa” is combination of Celestial terms which translate to the “Lamentation of the Moon” for it was foreseen, at the time of her birth that she would undo the great works happening within her village and that she would seal the door to a great many efforts from the Elder Evils. Yet, even if they had been foreseen, these events were simultaneously inevitable for their conclusions were already in effect and the ritual was annulled.

  9. Armed with knowledge that few others possessed, and a mind whose power was nearly unrivalled for its capacity to impose its will upon reality; Abigail made herself into a vanguard to stand between the forces of the Elder Evils and the Material Realm using the very powers of her would-be masters against them to foil them as had been foreseen.
  10.
  11. Now a great many years older, she stands vigil from the top of her lonely observatory against the forces of meddling outsiders and foolish mortals who would invite the doom of their reality for false promises of power. Studying the movements of the planets and stars even as she maintains watch over her most powerful and dangerous treasure: A singular five-inch nail from her home village that has been attuned to one of the Far Realms.
