そして私と彼は邂逅した。
And I and him met.
見た目は普通の少年で、黒髪に特徴らしき点のない顔は探せばどこにでもいそうな少年である。
He looks like an ordinary boy, the feature of black hair of the boy that can be seen everywhere.
だが彼の視線は普通ではない。まるで探るように部屋を見回し、私と視線が合うと逸らす事無く見続けていた。私の正体に気づいている？
But that gaze is abnormal. As if looking around the room to explore, I met his gaze and he kept doing it without diverting his sight.

いや、耳はしっかり隠したし、人間に見える魔道具はしっかり機能している。気のせいだと思うが……彼はただの子供ではないというのだけはわかった。

さて、彼の属性は一体何だろうかと、手が触れようとした瞬間に馬鹿が騒ぎ出したのだ。

「下がれ平民が。貴族である私より先に触れるでない。おい、新しい魔法陣は無いのか？　私の手が穢れてしまうでないか」

アルストロ君が触れると、水晶は赤と緑と交互に輝いた。それは火と風の二つの得意属性を持つ者で、一般的に二重属性と呼ばれる珍しい存在だ。従者三人は素晴らしいとか言って拍手しているが、私から見ればもう見飽きたものだ。
When Alstore-kun touches the crystal ball, it lights up with alternating red and green color. Typically known as double properties which is a rare existence, that person has two attributes, fire and wind.
そもそも数年前に判明し、アルストロ君の親が大いに宣伝してはしゃいだからな。そのせいもあってちやほやされ、気付けばこんな傲慢な性格の出来上がりだ。
It was found few years ago in the first place, because Alstore-kun's parents greatly advertise about it. If you notice, he will come out with insolence attitude with the rank and being pampered.
そんな事よりシリウス君だ。ドヤ顔なんかしていないで、さっさと下がって彼に触らせなさい。

「無能なぞ我が学校に必要ないわ！　魔法を見るまでもない、即刻帰るがいい」
"My school doesn't need incompetence! I don't need to see your magic, you should return immediately."
「そうだ、先生も仰っておられる。さっさと帰れ！」
"Yeah, the teachers are saying same too. Go back quicky!"
「無能と一緒にいるだけで穢れるわ！」
"I feel corrupted being together with incompetence!"
「無能は帰れ！」
"Go home, incompetence!"
「黙りなさい」
"Silent."

あまりにも不愉快な笑い声に、止めようとした言葉に思わず殺気を含んでしまった。その余波をくらった彼等は笑いから一転し、恐怖に歪んだ表情で体を震わせていた。

Alstore-kun glares at me firmly but his knee is shaking. Maybe he will dismiss me but if he notices my true form, I think he will give up.
「貴方達四人の実力はよく知っていますので、魔法を使わなくても合格にしましょう。彼だけを見るので、貴方達は出て行くとよろしい」
"Since all of you knows the ability of these four people, let them pass the exam without having to use (or show) their magic. I would like to see that boy only, so all of you can take your leave."
「ふんっ！　無能と一緒にいるだけで不愉快だ。行くぞお前ら！」
"Hmmph! It's unpleasant to be together with incompetence. You guys, lets go."

"Yea, yes."
従者三人を引き連れ、アルストロ君が部屋を出て行くと同時に、隣に座っていたグレゴリ先生も立ち上がっていた。

「私も失礼する。無能の魔法なぞ見ても無駄だからな。公正な判断を期待していますぞ先生方」

“It’s ok, you can see that kind of person everywere. Besides, it’s not a problem since the teachers are still remaining here.”
全く、どっちが大人かわかったもんじゃない。聞いていますかグレゴリ先生？　彼の方が貴方より何倍も大人ですよ。
Good grief, I’m not sure who is the adult here. Are you listening, Gregori-sensei? This guys is many times (or more) adults than you.
「色々ありましたが、改めて君の魔法を見せてもらえるかな？」

「無属性魔法でもよろしいのですか？」
“Is non-attribute magic ok?”
「かまいません。私は貴方をただの無属性とは思っていませんから」
“I don’t mind. Because I don’t think of you as an ordinary non-attribute person.”
彼の属性の色は確かに無色だった。だが、過去に見た無色の色はどこか濁り気味の光だったが、彼が輝かせた水晶の光は澄んだ無色であった。

彼が腕を下ろすと光の玉は消えた。『ライト』の魔力消耗量はかなり高く、彼は変則的に扱ったのに全く堪える様子が見られない。やせ我慢ではない、これくらいの消費は彼にとって日常ですらないという事か。
The balls of light disappear when he lower his arm. The [Light] magic consumption is considerably quite high, and his irregular way of handling it is really can’t be seen.
この子の底が全く見えない。面白い。
This child’s bottom (potential?) can’t be seen. Interesting.
「ううむ、素晴らしい無属性ですが、やはり四属性魔法が使えないと厳しいですね」

「ええ、授業で必要な場合が多いですから。初級でもいいので、他の属性は使えませんかい？」

私としてはもう合格でもいいのだが、他の先生方の言う事も一理ある。適性が無くても初級くらいなら他属性も使える筈なのだが、彼は残念そうに首を横に振っていた。
As for me, I already give him a pass but there is a truth of what other teachers saying. Even if there isn’t any aptitude in other attributes, you should be able to use other attributes during beginner class and he is shaking his head regrettably.
「私は四属性魔法と相性が最悪でして、実は初級すら満足に使えません」

無色に関する情報は少なく、大抵の学者は見るだけ無駄と言って研究が進められていない。無色とはそこまで酷いものなのか？
The information of colorless is quite scarce, in fact most scholars declare it as a pointless study and there is no ongoing study on it. Isn’t this cruel for those (with) colorless attribute?
惜しいものだ、彼が他の属性に適性があればきっと魔法界で革命を起こしていたに違いあるまい。

ものの一分足らずで書き上げた彼は、基本通りの初級魔法を使っていた。手の平に小さな火の玉が浮かぶと、手の甲に描いた魔法陣が薄く光って発動しているので、実は元から使えたという線は無くなった。

シリウス君は手の甲に付いた魔光水を拭い、液が残ってないか確認していた。魔光水は肌に付けたままだと体に悪いのだが、その辺りの処置も完璧だ。

私とシリウス君の視線がぶつかり合い、しばし無言の応酬は続いたが、彼は諦めたかのように目を閉じて口元を緩ませていた。

確かに彼は謎が多いが、我が学校へ入学するのだ。いずれわかる時がくるさ。
There are a lot of mystery but he enters my school certainly. Eventually, the time to understand it will come.
そして彼は学校に吹き荒れる、新たな開拓の風になるであろう。

ふう……何とか合格できたようだ。
Phew... It seems somehow I was able to pass.
色々アホな奴らはいたが、話がわかる先生がいてくれて良かった。もしあの人がいなければ、俺は無色という理由だけで不合格にされていたであろう。
There were a lot foolish guys, but there is an understanding teacher. If not because of him, I would have been rejected just because of being colorless.
だが、あの人は本当に先生だったのだろうか？
But, I wonder if that person is really a teacher?
見た目は若い先生なのだが、あれほどの殺気を放ち、一人を除いた周囲の大人達は彼に対して目上の人を相手にするような態度だった。そして何より、師匠に似た年季の入った佇まいを感じさせた。
His appearance looks like a young teacher but, the surrounding adults except for one person gave that thirst for blood off, and it was the attitudes for being as a superior to them.
とても二十、三十の若者に出せるものではなく、軽く見積もっても百は超える……百は超える？
By no means, an adult of 20 or 30 years old can pull that off, if I lightly estimate, it could more than 100... more than 100?
そうか、あの人はパンフレットに載っていた学校長であるロードヴェルか。エルフの長寿ならあの貫禄もわかる。
Really, that person is as what the brochure said, the headmaster of the school, Rodwell isn't. If that's the case with elf's longevity, I can understand that kind of dignity too.
部屋に入って妙な違和感を感じる人だとは思ったが、変装の影響だったんだな。うむ、色々納得できたな。

気になるのは目を付けられてしまった点か。咄嗟に強さの秘訣を聞かれ適当な嘘をでっちあげたが、どこまで通じたものか。貴族達の侮辱に怒れる方なので悪い人では無さそうだが……学校のトップに知られて、何か変な事に巻き込まれなきゃいいんだけどね。
Am I being anxious until its shows in my eyes? Just now, a suitable lie was made up on the strengthening method but I wonder how far it will go. Although I’m a bit angry with the nobles’insult, but it doesn’t seems they are bad guy…it’s known thing about those tops (management) of school, as long as I’m not involved with weird things, I think that will be good, isn’t.

面接部屋を出てすぐ姉弟が俺の元へ駆け寄ってきた。尻尾を立ててどこか緊張した面持ちであるが、俺が笑顔で親指を立ててやれば満面の笑みへと変わった。
Immediately after I come out from the interview room, the siblings come to my side. They both looked nervous especially	with their tails but when I thumb up with smile; they both change to big smile.
「私達も合格です！」
“We also passed!”
「やった、これで兄貴と一緒だ！」
“I did it, I’ll be together with aniki!”
レウスは俺の周りを走り回って喜んでいるが、その行動は正に犬だ。周りの人が冷めた目で見てるからやめなさい。

「とりあえずペンダントを返して宿に戻るか。次に集まるのは三日後だっけ？」
“Are we going to return the pendant and going back to inn? The next meeting will be three days later from now?”
「そのようですね。パンフレットには三日後にまたここへ集まって、生徒の寮分けをするみたいです」
“That’s right. According to the pamphlet, we need to gather here in three days, its seems its for dividing students into dormitories.
「学生寮かぁ。確か二人か三人部屋だってザックの兄ちゃんが言っていたな」
“Student dorms? If I remember correctly, Zack-onichan said its 2 persons or 3 persons room.”
「何であいつはそんな事まで知っているんだ？」
“How does he know such a thing?”
「商人は色々情報を仕入れるのが基本だって言ってたよ」
“After all, as a merchant, learning various information is standard thing.”
確かに物を売り買いする商人には必要な事だな。こんな些細な情報まで仕入れなきゃならんとは、あいつも大変なんだな。
Certainly, trading information among merchants is necessary thing. Having even trivial information, that guys is really great.
俺達はペンダントを返却し、宿に戻って女将であるローラさんに報告すると我が事のように喜んでくれた。
We return the pendant, we go back to inn and inform the landlady, Laura and she is pleased with the matter.
「やるじゃないかあんた達。今日は御馳走にしてあげるからね」
“You guys aren’t bad huh. I’ll make a feast today.”
最近、お腹が空く事が多いレウスが最も喜んだのであった。
Recently, since Reus get empty stomach many times, he was pleased with this.
それから俺達は町を散策し続けた。
Then we continue exploring the town.
市場で新たなスパイスを見つけて料理のレパートリーが増えたり、エミリアが宿の仕事を手伝って女将さんに本気でスカウトされたり、レウスの新しくて丈夫な剣を探したりした。
Finding new spice at market, expanding the repertoire of dishes, Emelia is scouted seriously in order to help the landlady with inn's work, while Reus is searching for new sturdy sword.
広い街なのでとにかく歩き回り街の構造を脳内に叩き込んでいる内に、三日という期間はあっという間に過ぎていった。
Anyway, since the city is so big, while I walk around in the internal structure of the city, three days has passed in the blink of eye.
そして学生寮へ入る当日、俺達は女将さんに頭を下げていた。
And on the day of entering the student dormitory, we bow our head to the landlady.
「短い間でしたが、お世話になりました」
"Eventhough its very short time but thank you for taking care of us"
「いいよいいよ。むしろこっちの方が助かっちゃったわ。ねえエミリアちゃん、学校卒業したらここで働かない？」
"No no. In fact, I'm the one who are being taken care of. Do you want to work after graduating from school?"
「申し訳ありません、私はシリウス様のお傍を離れられませんので」
"I am sorry, I don't want to be separated from being Sirius-sama's servant."
「はぁ……残念だねぇ。まあ学生寮へ入ってもこの町にいるんだ。御飯だけでもいいからまた来ておくれよ」
"Haa... that's too bad. Well, even I enter student domitory, I'm still going to be in the town. Since the meal here is good, I'll come by again."
「そうですね、またジャオラスネークを食べにきますよ」
"I see, come eat Jaora Snake again."
春風の止まり木をチェックアウトし、次なる住処となる学生寮を目指す。はてさて、寮では相部屋との事だが、一体どんな奴がルームメイトになるだろうね。アホな貴族じゃないのを祈るよ。
After checking out from a perch of spring breeze, I go ahead to the student dormitory which will be our home. Let me see, since the dormitory is for sharing room, what kind of roommate I will get. I hope he's not some foolish nobles you know.
学校は前回来た時より人数が増えていた。入学試験は数日に渡って行われるので、俺達が受けた次の日も試験は行われていたのだ。今はその分も加算されているので、増えているのは当然であろう。
The number of people are incerasing more than the last time I came to school. Since the entrance examination takes place over several days, it was a test periods after we had done with ours. Now, adding those people (who were taking test after us), its natural to say the number is multiplying.
「すっげえ人だな。見てよ兄貴。何かキラキラした服着てる大人が多いんだけど、あれも新入生なのか？」
"What a wonderful person. See that, Aniki. How many adults are wearing sparking clothes, and that too is freshman?"
「なわけあるか。入学する子供の親だよ。絡まれると面倒だから近寄らないようにな」
"There is no such thing. Those are child's parent who enters the school. It's going to be troublesome if you get tangled, so don't get close."
ざっと見積もって二百は軽く超えている。保護者連れの貴族も多数見受けられ、貴族の身形にも色々あるのだとよくわかる光景だ。持論であるが、無駄に装飾が多い貴族ほど面倒な相手だと思うので、二人にそういう輩には近寄らないよう厳命しておいた。
There are estimate of roughly exceeding 200 minors.  There are a lot of noble children with their parents, and there are wearing various aristocratic dresses, and it's a scene where I often understand. This is my theory, but I think it's kind of pointless nobles with a lot of decoration, they are going to be troublesome companion, so I give strict order to those two (Reus and Emilia) not to get close to them.
「さて、学生寮の部屋割りはどこにあるのかね？」
"Well, I wonder where is the room assignment of the student dormitory?"
「シリウス様、あちらで紙を配られていたので貰ってきました」
"Sirius-sama, they were distributing the paper and I got them."
仕事が速いねエミリアさん。一応大きい看板にも張ってあるようだが、看板前は混雑しているし落ち着いて探すにはやはり手元の紙が一番だ。
You work really fast, Emilia-san. There are more or less big billboards sticked of distribution papers, and there is congestion in front of billboard, as expected to search calmly by using the distribution paper is the best.
あれ？
Eh?
よく見たらこういう紙を持っているのは貴族だけっぽいんだけど。つまり平民は看板前で……。
Nobles are often seen having such paper. In short, to see commoners in front of billboard is...
「エミリア、この紙って貴族専用じゃないか？」
"Emilia, the paper is not only for noble right?"
「そのようですね。ですが私は受付前に立って御辞儀をしただけで、くださいとは一言も申しておりません。あちらが勝手に渡してくださっただけです」
"That's right. But, I just went to front reception and bow my head, saying please, and no one is saying anything about it. They just passed it to me voluntarily."
エミリアの気品勝ちか。まあいい、彼女の苦労を（したかどうかわからないが）無駄にするのもあれだし、返却する物じゃないから遠慮なく貰っておくとしよう。
Is Emilia's elegance win? Well whatever, to make her struggle (I'm not sure about it) wasteful, let's not hesitate about this because it's not like I can return the paper back.
「俺はどこかな〜っと……」
"Where would I be..."
「私は……ありました」
"I am... found it."
三人で俺が持つ部屋割りを覗き込んで自分の名前を探す。
I peek at room assignment and I find my name in a three-person room.
寮はまず大まかに男子寮と女子寮に分かれ、そこから四属性の名前に対応した建物になる。全部合わせれば八つも寮があるわけで、それだけ広大な敷地があるわけだ。ちなみに本人の得意属性と寮の属性名は関係ない。
First of all, the dormitories are roughly divided into male's and female's, and from there, the buildings are correspond to name of four attributes. To put it together, there are eight dormitories and that's why the area is really big. By the way, the attributes name of a building and the person's attribute are not necessarily the same.
レウスは男子寮、火の三十八番の部屋。
Reus' room is located in the "Fire" 38th room of male dormitory.
エミリアは女子寮、水の二十五番の部屋。
Emilia's room is located in the "Water" 25th room of female dormitory.
そして俺は……。
And I...
「……ありませんね」
"... It's not here huh."
「兄貴が無いぞ！」
"That can be true, Aniki!"
そう、俺の名前が見当たらないのだ。三人で何度も確認したし、端っこに書かれていないかどうか調べたが、俺の名前は一文字も書かれていない。
Yeah, I don't see my name. We have confirmed it several times by three of us, it's not written on the edge, and on straight line, there isn't also my name.
「記入ミスでしょうか？　こう見ると空き部屋も少しあるようですが」
"An entry mistake? But it seems there are still little available room left."
「空いてる部屋ならどこでもいいんじゃないのか？同じ部屋の人を追い出すから俺の部屋に来てくれよ」
"If that's the case, any room is ok right? Since the person in my room was expelled, come to my room."
「冗談でもそういう事を言うな。とにかく確認の為に受付へ行ってみよう」
"Don't say that like a joke. Anyway, I'll go to the reception desk for confirmation."
二人を引き連れ、俺はエミリアが部屋割りを貰った受付へと足を運んだ。
Those two already have room, so I go to where Emilia got the room's assignment.
受付には先生ではなく用務員らしき男が疲れ顔で座っていた。覇気が足りない人だと思っているとエミリアが口を寄せ、先ほどの人と違うと教えてくれた。とにかく彼に聞いてみるか。
Not a teacher but the man who seems the janitor sat down with tired face at the reception desk.
「すいません、部屋割りで聞きたい事があるのですが」
"Excuse me, There is a thing I'd like to ask about the room's assignment."
「はいはい……って、貴族じゃないんだな。んで、何だっけ？」
"Yes yes... you're not a noble, So, what about it?"
「ですから部屋割りの話です。私の名前が載っていないのですが、何か知りませんか？」
"I would like to ask about the room's assignment. My name is not mention, don't you know anything?
「ちゃんと見たの？　仕方ねえなぁ、君は何番だい？」
"Have you looked properly?  It can't be help, what number are you?"
「百五十六番です」
"Number 156."
男は俺の番号を呟きながら、机の下に仕舞ってあった紙を覗き込んだ。俺が持つ地図のような部屋割りと違い、男のはリスト化された物らしい。目線が一番上から下に行ったところで止まり紙を仕舞った。
That man peeked into the paper that had been put under the desk while muttering my number. The male one is different from room's assigment map that I have unlike what that man has.
「君はシリウスって子かい？」
"Are you Sirius?"
「そうです。シリウス・ティーチャーです」
"Yes, I am Sirius Teacher."
「だったら君はここじゃないな。案内してあげるからついてきな」
"Then, your aren't here. Since I'll be guiding you, follow me."
疑問符を浮かべる俺達を他所に、用務員の男は他の人に声をかけてから案内し始めた。
With questions floating, The male janitor has begun to guide us to some other place after he speaks to somebody.
学生寮が立ち並ぶ中を突っ切り、山間の様な道に入って雑草が生い茂った道を進んでいく。歩き続けて五分。おそらく学生寮から一キロ近くあるだろうと思われるその場所に建物はあった。
I go across the line student dormitory, entering the mountain's road which overgrown by weed. I keep walking for five minutes. It seems there is a building that is one kilometer away from student dormitory.
「ここが君の寮だよ」
"Here's your dorm."
「え？　まさかこれが？」
"Eh? No way this is?"
「何だよ……これが兄貴の住処だって？　冗談じゃない！」
"What...This is Aniki's room? Are you kidding me!"
幾つかの穴が空いており、他の部分もすぐに腐って落ちそうな屋根。
There are some missing holes on the roof, the other parts are really bad and seem likely to fall immediately.
穴は開いていないが、蔓が絡みまくって汚れが目立つ外壁に、レールから外れて下に落ちている窓枠。
There is no opening for hole, there are vines tangled on dirty outerwall, and from rail, the window is falling down.
農作物を育ててたであろう庭の畑はもはや見る影もなく、ただの雑草畑と化しており、井戸の周囲も同じように雑草パーティーだ。
The silhouette of vineyard in a garden that could  bring up farm produce crops can't be seen and its is changing into an ordinary weed field, even the well surroundings also covered by party of weed.
どう見てもこれは寮と言うか……。
Even if you see this, how can you call a dormitory...
「こんなの……ただの廃墟じゃないか！」
"Such a.. isn't this common abandon building!"
レウスは廃墟と化している家を指差して激怒していた。だが、男は持って来た紙を確認しながら平然と言い返してくる。
Reus is pointing angrily at house that has changed into an abandoned building. But, that man is retorting calmly while checking the brought paper.
「だって紙には『無能者には伝統ある寮に入る資格無し。よって過去に宿直が利用していた住居を貸与する』と、書いてあるんだ。グレゴリ先生の命令だからどうしようもないんだよ」
"After all, on this paper it says, [There is no tradition of incompetent to enter the dormitory]."
「そんな……こんなの横暴です！」
"Such...this is an oppression!"
「まあ俺には関係ないことだし、仕方が無いと思って諦めたらどうだい？　それに……無能にはお似合いじゃないかな？」
"Well, this thing is unrelated to me, it can't be help and I suggest you give up, how about that?  Besides...I think it's well match for incompetence."
「「ああっ！？」」
"Haaaa!?" (Emilia and Reus)
「ひぃ！？」
"Hiiii!?"
俺は慌てて二人の襟首を掴んでいた。そうしなければ確実に二人はこの男を襲っていたからだ。子供とはいえ本気で怒った二人の殺気は本物で、それにあてられた男は逃げるように走り去った。
I rush and grasp the name of the two's necks. Otherwise, they are certainly going to attack the man. It's a child but the bloodthirst of them, who got angry is the real thing, then the about to get hit man was about to run away is escaping.
「兄貴！　何で止めるんだ。あいつは兄貴を……兄貴を！」
"Aniki! Why stopped me. That guy, to Aniki... to Aniki!"
「あれはただ命令を遂行しているだけだ。殴ったって何も変わらんよ」
"That guys is merely following the order. Even if you hit him, it's going to change nothing, you know."
「だけど……それでも……こんな扱い酷いです」
"But... still...such treatment is terrible."
「よしよし。ありがとうな、俺の代わりに怒ってくれて」
"Yosh yosh. Thank you guys, being angry for me."
二人は怒りを堪えるように歯を食い縛って涙を流していた。自分の事でもないのにそんなに怒ってまあ、可愛い奴らだな全く。
They clench their teeth to bear the anger and shed tears. To be angry so much just because of me, they are indeed a cute bunch.
しばらく撫でてやると、緩やかに尻尾を振り始めてきたので落ち着いてきたようだ。
Their tails begin to swing gently after I stroke them (their head, not tail) for a while, so it seems they calm down.
「シリウス様は無能ではありません。シリウス様の魅力に気付かない奴こそ無能なのです」
"Sirius-sama is not incompetent. The guy who doesn't notice Sirius-sama's charm is incompetent."
「うんうん、いつか見返してやろうな。さて、切り替えて家の掃除を始めようか」
"Un unn. I'll look sometime. Well, shall we begin to change (cloth) and clean the house?"
「わかったよ。だけど兄貴、本当にここに住むのか？」
"Understood. But Aniki, are you really going to stay here?"
「まあ中を見てからだけどね。それにここへ住むのは俺一人なんだ。誰も気にせず気楽に過ごせるのは大きいぞ」
"Well, but after looking from inside. And I'm the only one who is going to live here. Anyone can spend time here comfortably without worrying too much."
俺はこの世界に無い知識を使い、料理や魔法の研究等の様々な実験を繰り返した。俺が生まれたあの家は人里から離れた位置にあったのでやりたい放題であったが、町の中では無理がある。
I'm going to use the knowledge that this world doesn't have, and I have repeated various experiments on cooking and the study of magic. The house where I was born was in the location away from the human dwelling, I can do anything as I please but it's impossible here since this place is still in town.
だが、ここは前回の家ほどではないが多少は人里から離れている。ルームメイトも居らず、俺は気兼ねなくやりたい事が出来るわけだ。
This isn't like the previous house, but more or less is away from human dwelling. There is no roommate too and I can do whatever I want without hesitation.
いいね、正に俺の城って感じだな。
Great, I feel like having my own castle.
「物は考えようだ。さて、中はどうなっているのかね」
"I have things to consider. how does the inside turn out?"
少し建て付けは悪くなっているが、玄関の扉は十分に使用可能のようだ。扉を開けて中に入れば、とにかく埃っぽくて呼吸も満足に出来ないくらいだった。一体何年ここに放置されてたんだろうか。姉弟を外に残し、無事な窓だけ開け放って早々に脱出した。
Some fitting are getting worse, but it appear that the entrance door is sufficiently can be used. If I opened the door and enter inside, it's going to be dusty anyway and it's not possible to breathe. I wonder how many years it has been left unattended. I left the siblings outside, open only a safe window and escaped immediately.
「すげぇ埃だな！　兄貴大丈夫か？」
"Wow, that's a lot of dust. Aniki, are you ok?"
「問題ない。まずは埃を吹っ飛ばしてしまうに限る。エミリア『ウインド』を家が壊れない程度で玄関から放ってくれ」
"No problem. First, try to limit your blow only to dust. Emilia, fire [Wind] from the front door to the degree of not breaking the house."
「わかりました」
"Understood"
『ウインド』は風を起こすだけの初級魔法だが、強めに放てば埃を飛ばすにはもってこいの魔法だ。玄関から入った風は家中を駆け巡り、開いた窓や隙間から埃を連れて外へ飛び出していく。最初は埃の多さに飛び出す風の色が変わるぐらいだったが、しばらく続ければ消えるので止めてもらう。
[Wind] is only the beginner magic that creates wind, but it's ideal magic that emphasize in blowing dust away. Wind enter from the front door into whole area of the house, and the dust is taken outside through the opened window and gaps. At the beginning, the color of blowing wind changed because a lot of dust, it continue for a while until dust is disappear and she stop doing it.
埃以外に軽い物が外に飛び出したが知ったことか。こんな所に置いとく方が悪い。
In addition to dust, is some kind of light going outside, I think? It is bad to keep a place like this.
「それじゃあ役割分担と行きますか。エミリアは俺と一緒に中の探索と掃除。レウスは外で雑草を斬ったりして見栄えを良くしておいてくれ」
"Well then, should we assign roles? Emilia and I together will search and clean. Reus, cut weed outside and go make the outer appearance look good."
「お任せください。これ程掃除のやり甲斐がある家は初めてですね」
"Please leave it to me. This is first house worth doing a lot of cleaning, isn't."
「大体で良いんだね？　壁の蔓もやっておくよ」
"As long as it look nice, right? I'll cut the vines on the wall too."
「頼んだ。何か怪しい物があったら避けるなり後で呼んでくれ」
"I'll leave it to you. If there is anything suspicious, avoid it and call me after."
二人は母さんから従者の教育を受けただけあって、掃除くらいお手の物だ。レウスはディーから庭師のやり方を習っているし、外に放置しておいても問題あるまい。
They got servant's education from mother, so cleaning is one of their forte. Reus learned gardener's method from Dee, there's no need to question if I leave him outside alone.
エミリアを連れて中に入ると、埃っぽさは大分無くなったが、まだまだ長年積もった塵や埃は残っている。布をマスク代わりにし、とりあえず家の中を探索してみた。
When I bring Emilia inside, a lot of dust already cleared but there are still a lot of trash and dust which are left here for a long time. A cloth is used as mask and we search inside the house immediately.
「部屋は全部で五つか。ダイニングキッチンに寝室二つに空き部屋二つ。結構広いんだな」
"Are there five rooms altogether?  Kitchen-dining room, two bedrooms and two available rooms. This house is quite wide."
「二階はありませんが、私達が住んでいた家と同じくらいありますね」
"There is no second floor but this is same like our house, right?"
ここへ連れてきた青年は宿直で使ってたと言っていたな。おそらく何人かがここに住んで交代で宿直をやっていたが、立地条件の不便さ、又は学校施設の移動で廃れていったのだろうか？
The guide youth says that this house is used for night duty. I wonder if perhaps someone lives here, doing night duty in shifts, but started to become obsolete because of inconvenient location or moving distance to school?
家具やテーブル類は残っているが、汚れを拭き取ればまだまだ使えそうだ。台所はエミリアに任せ、俺は必要な物といらない物を分ける作業に専念する。鍛えた体に『ブースト』を併用すればどんな重い物だろうが朝飯前で、半壊した戸棚を抱え外に出ると、剣を振り回して雑草を刈るレウスの姿があった。
The furniture and table type are left behind, but it’s still likely usable if the dirt is wiped. I leave the kitchen to Emilia and concentrate on the work to seperate the things that are needed and unneeded. When using [Boost] together with trained body, any heavy object will become trivial matter, I bring half-destroyed cupboard outside, and figure of Reus swinging the sword to cut the weeds.
「ふんっ！　一撃一撃に気合を込める……ふんっ！」
“Phew! Raising spirit, blow blow, phew!”
レウスの仕事は速く、すでに家周辺の草はほぼ刈りつくされていた。これは予想以上に早く終わりそうだ、次の仕事を頼んでおこう。
Reus works fast, grass around the house is mostly cut up. This is likely to end sooner than expected, so let ask him to do next work.
「レウス、大体その辺で大丈夫だぞ。後は広いスペースを作って、そこに大き目の木を丸太状にして幾つか積んでおいてくれ」
"Reus, that's already good enough around here. After this, please clear a wide space, and please make that big tree into log and bring them here."
「前に倉庫を作った時のあれだね？　任せといて！」
"It's time to make warehouse, isn't. Leave it to me!"
二年前に作業用の倉庫を増築した経験が生かされてなによりだ。俺は再び中に入りエミリアの様子を見に行った。
Above all, to make use working experience which adding an extension to a warehouse two years ago is the best. I enter the house to see Emilia's situation.
「シリウス様、こちらはほとんど終わりました。後は竈の魔法陣を描いたり、小道具を揃えれば十分ですね」
"Sirius-sama, I'm almost done here. After drawing the magic circle for cooking stove, and gathering all the tools, it will only take 10 minutes."
彼女もまた仕事が速かった。あれだけ汚れていた台所は見違える程に綺麗になり、道具さえあれば料理が十分に出来るくらいである。凄いもんだな、エリナ式従者教育ってのは。
She was quick at work, too. A kitchen that was dirty is now beautiful beyond recognition, if only there is stools, I can make dishes in about 10 minutes.
「物も少ないですし、これくらい従者として当然です。ただ……」
"It's just small thing, and this much is natural as servant. But..."
この家は放置されていただけで、物がそんなにあるわけじゃない。壊れた物を外に出して汚れを拭き取れば住むには問題ないのだが、それはあくまで内部だけの話である。
This house was abandoned, and there's not much thing here. It's not a problem to live here after broken things are being taken outside and cleaning the dirt, it's now only a discussion on the interior.
「屋根か。ここが一番酷い状態だな」
"Is it the roof? It's in the most terrible state here."
外から見てわかっていたが、屋根が朽ちて色んな箇所が穴空き状態なのだ。やはり屋根は全て取り替えだな。
Although I understand when seeing it from outside, various parts on the roof are rotting with holes. As expected, the roof must be changed completely.
そのまま作業を続けていると、昼を告げる鐘の音が聞こえた。実家に居た頃は町から離れていたせいで聞こえなかったが、早朝と正午、そして夕方になると鳴り響いて時間を知らせる鐘の音である。
When the work was continued just as it is, the bell can be heard telling its already noon.
「シリウス様、お昼御飯はどうされますか？」
"Sirius-sama, how about lunch?"
「悪いけど頼むよ。俺は屋根の材料を作らないといけないからさ」
"I'm sorry but I leave it to you. Because I have to make the material for the roof."
「はい。頑張って作ります！」
"Yes. Good luck!"
いつも俺が作っているイメージはあるが、ちゃんと弟子二人も料理は出来る。特にエミリアは俺に美味いと言わせたがるので、料理をする時はとてつもなくやる気を出して張り切ってくれる。
There is an image that I always make, but they can cook properly too. In particular, Emilia is just to make me say that her cooking is delicious, she shows incredible willingness when is the time to cook.
「ああ……材料と道具が足りません！　こうなったら町へ買いに……」
"Aa...there is not enough materials and tools! If that's the case, I'll buy them in town..."
「いいから、いつものでいいから！」
"That's fine, the usual is good!"
張り切り過ぎなのが玉に瑕です。
Over excited is just stressful.
料理の支度を始めた彼女を置いてレウスを見れば、すでに六本目の丸太を並べているところだった。『ブースト』を使ってるとはいえ、八歳の子供が自身より数倍大きい丸太を軽々と運んでくる姿は実にシュールである。
While she is start preparing the dishes and if you look at Reus, there are six logs were lined up. Using [Boost], the figure of eight year old child carrying logs lightly that several times larger than himself, is surreal.
「調子はどうだレウス？　魔力はまだ残っているか？」
"How's your condition, Reus? Is there any magic left?"
「まだ全然大丈夫だぜ兄貴」
"I'm still good, Aniki"
「そうか、あと四本程頼む。その頃には昼飯が出来ているはずだ」
"Is that so, please cut four more (logs). Lunch should be ready by that time."
「これも訓練ってやつだな。うおおっ！」
"This guy is also practicing. Uooo!"
やってる事はとんでもないが、ああも楽しそうに森へ向かう姿は子供らしいなと思う。
To perform matters outrageously, oh well, the figure moves happily towards the forest is childlike I think.
さて、続きまして屋根用の板を作る作業に入りますか。

切ったばかりの木は水分を多く含んでいるので、建築資材としては使えない。なのでまず水分を抜かなければならないのだが、自然乾燥では早くても半年はかかるので間に合うわけがない。
The tree which just has been cut contains a lot of moisture, therefore it can't be used as building material. Because of that, I have to remove the moisture first, even if it's left to be dry naturally, it's going to take half a year, so it's impossible to serve the purpose.
そこで魔法の登場だ。
Thus, it is the introduction of magic.
木に威力を調整した火の魔法陣を描き、木自体の温度を上げて強制的に水分を蒸発させるのだ。早くて一時間もあれば抜けるのだが、その分とんでもない量の水蒸気が吹き出るので、火事と疑われそうだがそれは風の魔法陣で散らせば大丈夫。
A magic circle of fire with adjusted power is drawn on the tree, to raise the temperature of the wood itself and makes moisture to evaporate forcibly. The fastest time to evaporate the water is one hour, and unexpected degree of steam amount comes out, one can suspect it is a fire (accident), thus the magic circle of wind is used to scatter the steam.
積んだ丸太全てに処置を施し、乾燥できた物から剣で斬って板状にしていく。完全に真っ直ぐは無理だが、そこは剛破一刀流で培った技術でほぼ真っ直ぐに斬った。その間にエミリアには釘を買ってきてもらう。
All logs stacked are treated, and since it has dried up, log is being cut like a board. It is impossible to cut it straight perfectly but in one-sword-style school of arts, the logs are still cut straight mostly. In the mean time, Emilia will buy the nail.
後は古い屋根板を外し、新しい板を載せて釘を打ち付けていくだけだ。屋根以外はまだまだ丈夫だし、俺が学校を卒業するまでは持ってくれるだろう。
Next is removing old roof, and hammer a nail when putting a new board. Everything except the roof is still strong and I think it can last until I graduate from school.
夕方になってようやく屋根が完成した。
Finally, the roof was completed in the evening.
簡単な作りだが、魔法の力で重機も梯子等の道具いらずで僅か半日足らずで終らせた。本来なら数日か数週間はかかってもおかしくない作業なのだが、魔法様々である。
It's a simple task but replacing heavy machineries and ladders with the power of magic, everything is finish in merely just half a day. In normal circumstances, it's not weird to say that the work should take time of several days or weeks, because various magic are there.
「やったな兄貴！　これで見た目は十分に住める家だよ」
"Yeay Aniki! This house looks habitable now.
「ですがシリウス様、屋根は出来ましたが、内装が住める状態ではありません」
"But Sirius-sama, even if the roof was well made, the interior is not suitable for living."
埃や汚れは大方片付いたが、家具類は揃っておらず、特にベッドに至っては枠組みはあっても布団部分が無いのである。現状は雨風が凌げるだけだな。
Although dust and dirt were cleaned mostly, the furniture is not complete, and even if there is a structure that looks like bed particularly, there is no futon available. At least, the present condition can withstand rain and wind.
「そこら辺は明日だな。顔を出しづらいけど、今日はローナさんの所へ泊まるとしよう。ついでに布団とか分けてもらえるか聞いてみたいな」
"The inner will be done tomorrow. It's a bad look but for today, let's just stay at Rona-san place."
「そうですね。私もそうなされた方がよろしいかと」
"That's right. I'm sure about that too."
「じゃあ早速行こうよ。俺腹減ったよ」
"So, let's go immediately. I'm already hungry."
「私もよ。布団以外に何かー……シリウス様？」
"Me too. What is it besides futon...Sirius-sama?"
二人は付いてくる気満々であるが、ここは言っておかねばなるまい。
They follow me with full of spirit, and they have to say it here.
「ローナさんの宿へ行くのは俺だけだ。お前達には学生寮があるだろう？」
"I'm the only one going to Rona-san inn. Aren't you guys staying in student dormitory?"
「それはそうですけど、私達はシリウス様の隣が居場所ですから」
"That is true but we want to stay close with Sirius-sama, that's why."
「そうだよ、俺も兄貴の隣が一番だ」
"That's right, I want to stay close to Aniki too."
「じゃあ聞くが、この家が住めるようになったらお前達はどうするんだ？」
"Well listen, what would you guys do if we can stay in this house now?
「当然住むよ」
"Of course, I'm going to stay here."
「私はシリウス様の世話をする為にいるんです。隣にいなければならないんです」
"I am here to take care Sirius-sama. That's why I want to stay close (to you)."
近くに居過ぎた弊害だな。今までは閉じた世界だったからそれが当たり前だったのもあるが、ここはもう外の世界なのだ。守るべきルールは守らなければならない。それが理不尽でなければ尚更だ。
Staying close together will give adverse effect. Until now, we lived in 'closed' world, and its natural like that, but now, this is already 'outside' world. Rules should be followed. Especially when it is not unreasonable.
突き放さなければならない時期がきたのだ。
The time to push them away has come.
「いいかい、二人は学校に入学して学生寮が与えられたんだ。だからそこに住まなければならないんだよ」
"Listen here, both of you already entered this school and a student dormitory was given. So, you must live in there."
「だって……兄貴がいないじゃないか」
"But...Aniki is not there."
「ここにいるだろう？見えないだけで、俺はちゃんと近くにいるんだ。ほら、俺がライオルの所へ行ってたようなものだよ」
"I'm still here right? Although you can't see me but I'm still in nearby area. Come on, this is like when I go to Lior's place."
「ですが……私はお世話したいんです」
"Yes but... I want to take care of you."
「それは凄く嬉しい。だけどな、俺だけに固執するんじゃなくて色んな人と知り合って話をしてみてほしいんだ。ほら、ちょうどよくルームメイトという話相手ができるんだ、その相手と仲良くなってみな」
“I’m happy to hear that. But, don’t just stick to me only, I want you to try to talk and get acquainted with various people. Look, try to talk with your roommate, become friends with everyone.”
「その相手が悪い奴だったらどうするの？」
“What if that companion is a bad guy?”
「その時は遠慮なくぶっ飛ばしてやれ。今のお前達なら人の良し悪しを見分けられるし、悪い奴なんかに負けないくらい強くなった。俺が後ろにいなくても十分なくらいにな」
“At that time, just knock them without reserve. Now, you guys can distinguish between good or bad guys, become strong so that you won’t be defeated by a bad guy. That will be enough even if I’m not behind your back.”
姉弟は涙目になっていたが、やがてエミリアはゆっくりとだが頷いた。そうだ、姉として弟の見本になってあげないとな。
The siblings had watery eyes, but soon Emilia slowly nods. That’s right, an older sister should become a role model for her younger brother.
「勝手にどこかに行かれませんよね？」
“You’re not going anywhere as you please right?”
「遠出する時はちゃんと言うよ」
“Please tell me when you’re going out.”
「学校の行事に支障がなければ近くに居てもいいんですよね？」
“If there is no troublesome event at school, I would like stay nearby to you?”
「勿論さ。というかそういう場合は訓練するかもしれないから近くに居てもらわないとな」
“Of course. In case of going out for training or something, I will be in nearby area.”
「わかりました。私達は学生寮に行きます」
“Understood. We will be going to student dormitory.”
「姉ちゃん、いいの？」
“Onee-chan, will this be ok?”
「これ以上我侭言っても困らせるだけよ。それに、シリウス様が居なくても大丈夫なくらい強くならないとね」
“I’ll be embarrassed to say anymore selfishly. Moreover, Sirius-sama will be alright even if we’re not here, right”
エミリアは俺の意図を理解してくれたようだ。いつも俺の後ろに付いて歩き、何よりも俺を優先するだけだった子が、ほんの少しとはいえ前へ歩き出したのだ。祝福してやらねばな。
Emilia seems to have understood my intention. The child always walked behind me, who give an utmost priority of me, and now they have begun to walk slightly in front of me. I have to give them my blessing.
「……わかった。俺も兄貴がいなくても大丈夫なくらい強くなる」
“…Understood. Me too, even if Aniki is not around, I’ll be strong.”
「そうか、偉いぞ二人とも」
“Is that so, that’s great both of you.”
俺は強くなる為に我が子は旅をさせるべきだと、師匠に笑いながら戦場のど真ん中に放り投げられた経験が多いから、訓練は厳しくてもこういう面では過保護になっちゃうんだよな。
Just for the sake of them getting stronger, I should allow my child to travel, because Shishou who has a lot of experience, threw into the middle of battle while laughing, even if the practice is strict on the surface, I've became overprotective.
最後に二人の頭を撫で、俺達は学生寮へ向かって歩き出した。
At the end, I stroke their head and we bgin to walk to student dormitory.
「まあ……宿までは無理だが、どこかで食事くらいはいいか」
"Well...since it's impossible to eat at in, we'll just eat anywhere OK?"
「「本当！？」」
"Really!?"
やれやれ……やっぱ俺って甘いなぁ。
Oh my... I'm still too lenient huh.
入学式まであと二日。
It will be two more days until entrance ceremony.
学校に来て初っ端から躓いているが、こんなので転ぶほど俺達は柔じゃない。
We come to the school and stumble from very beginning, but we're not so weak to keep falling again.
俺の無色がどれほどの障害になるかわからないが、まあ何とかなるだろう。
I'm not sure to what extent of handicap about my colorless attribute, oh well, I think it should be fine somehow.
学校にそこまで固執しているわけでもないし、最悪辞めたって問題は無い。
There is no reason to stick to school and even if I quit, it shouldn't be a problem.
生き方なんて探せば幾らでもあるんだから、何も恐れる事無く学校生活を送って行けばいいさ。
Since I'm also looking forward on whatever kind of lifestyle, I should enjoy school life without afraid of anything.
