- Shulamit says, "Hoo hoo, many things back here!"
- Picram starts up the recording drone, then picks up a box and carefully depositing the contents on the central desk. "This is a find from Atria", it cheerfully explains, "our researchers call it a netted ulraima pouch. It is described as following: Woven from homespun plant fiber, this spherical bundle is packed full of dried petals, seeds and twigs, as well as a liberal quantity of soft wood shavings. A coiling brass wire has wound its way through the loops along every side of the net, hooking them in place to seal the ulraima shut, while dangling from a slender brass chain tethered to the top of the display case. An invigorating aroma of flowers, spices and woody incense hangs in the air, lending an additional sensory layer to the exhibit."
- Shulamit says, "Hoo, this is the one that smells really nice, yes? Yes!"
- Shulamit nods sagely, remembering the scent from before, trying to waft a bit of the aroma towards itself with a few tendrils.
- Picram says, "Yes, it smells quite lovely. Which I suppose might be why these items have been collected and assorted in this precise way."
- Shulamit says, "Perhaps a room fragrance..er..."
- Shulamit trails off, trying to think of the proper word.
- Shulamit says, "Aromatic things, hoo. Beings throughout time like them."
- Shulamit says, "Although maybe more religious inspired. For flinging around on the wires?"
- Shulamit mimics spinning a censer around on a chain, sending smoke around. It is extremely careful to not spin too much in the crowded room.
- Picram says, "Yes, it seems to have been made for holding. Maybe it had a religious purpose, but Decheerans have never been overly religious to begin with as far as I know. They might have just used it to provide a nice scent to their surroundings."
- Shulamit says, "True true. Hang up where the wind might catch it, sending nice scents into the air. Maybe the various things making the scents, hoo, specially picked? Do you think they all come from where it was found on Atria? Or do you think maybe there were exotic traded ingredients?"
- Picram picks up a note that was in the box and reads it out aloud. "According to the researchers, the item was made from three finds: a tattered net of cords, made of plant fiber. A long brass spiral, and an earthenware jar, the latter seemingly having been designed to be held by Decheeran tendrils. I suppose the earthenware would have been at the bottom, so... the item could be both carried around and hung?"
- Shulamit rubs its chin thoughtfully, raises its eyebrow and says, "I see..."
- Picram says, "Hm... given the nature of those materials, they might predate space flight, so I doubt they had access to off-world materials."
- Shulamit says, "Perhaps if you wanted a more permanent installation. Oh, I didn't mean off-world, hoo. Traded on planet from far away from location nearby."
- Picram says, "Yes, I think it would make sense. Those items seem rather elaborately crafted, so it would make sense that you'd use them to keep or display the fanciest materials you could find. Maybe that was their purpose? To display all the scents you had found on your journey, and to arrange them to a kind of... scent-scape?"
- Shulamit scratches its canopy for a moment. "Hoo, like sending a gift to a friend. Here being, have scents from my far off location!"
- Shulamit says, "Oooh hoo, scent scape sounds fun! I hope it's that."
- Shulamit acknowledges the point with a grave nod of its head.
- Picram says, "Maybe they were even competing back in the day, seeing who could create the most beautiful arrangement of aromas."
- Shulamit says, "Whatever it was used for, we should start making and using them again, for all the possible reasons."
- Acknowledging Picram's point to be true, Shulamit nods its head gravely at it.
- Picram says, "Oh, how I wish they had buried instructions with all their old things."
- Shulamit says to Picram, "Alas, the most lost thing to time."
- Picram says, "Imagine the possibilities now that people could have a whole sector full of things at their disposal to create one of those."
- Acknowledging Picram's point to be true, Shulamit nods its head gravely at it.
- Picram says, "Why do you think people stopped making those?"
- Shulamit says, "Hoo, make scent scapes for specific planets, or ones travels and sell as a journey-catalogue, or compete for who can design one that embodies the concept of Gunurash the best, etc."
- Shulamit frowns, pondering the question.
- Shulamit says, "Because...they were ding dongs. Hoo no! Because culturally they went onto a new concept, probably."
- Shulamit shrugs helplessly.
- Picram says, "Maybe it just went out of fashion. Maybe something else came up, like... extraction techniques for scents. You could carry your fancy smell around in a small bottle, which I guess is more convenient?"
- Shulamit ponders the situation.
- Shulamit says, "And perfume generally lasts longer, what with various alcoholic bases capturing the scents better."
- Shulamit says, "But hoo. Sometimes you want something ephemeral, as everything must decay, but especially scents."
- Picram says, "That might have been part of the allure as well, yes."
- Shulamit says, "But also why they stopped making them, hoo. Scents are much shorter lived than we are. So maybe they wanted something closer to the lifespan, hoo."
- Picram picks up the artefact on the desk, grabbing it from below, but quickly places it back down again. "Hm. I suppose they might have needed to do something about those. It seems... unpractical to carry this around, in all honesty. Maybe they were just hung in a room, maybe akin to a scent gallery. Or they removed the dangly bits before carrying it around."
- Shulamit nods slowly.
- Shulamit says, "I was assuming they were hung up in a location, but assuming is bad, yes yes. It felt safer to keep it one place, unless it were like a censer, but those are usually easier to swing around."
- Picram says, "It could have been either, or both."
- Acknowledging Picram's point to be true, Shulamit nods its head gravely at it.
- Shulamit says, "True true."
- Picram says, "Do you think they could have attached it to their canopies instead?"
- Shulamit wafts some of the aroma from the pouch towards itself again. "Very nice, even after so long." Its eyes bug out as it ponders that possibility suddenly.
- Shulamit says, "Hoooooooo."
- Shulamit says, "Like the ornaments! Oh I hope so."
- Shulamit says, "Oh hoo. I'm sorry Picram. Thank you for showing me this, but I'm being dragged into cryo against my will."
- Picram nods.
- Picram says, "Alright, let's end this session. I think we've found a lot of fun possibilities this time, and hope we can ponder this again soon."
- Shulamit shuffles around, sending leaves off its canopy as it apologizes. "Thank you again! I hope to see more of this in the future! Especially once more is learned!"
- Shulamit waves.
- The video feed fades to black as Picram shuts down the recording drone.
