- I- what?
- Oh, I'm on the east coast now. Well, that's okay. Woke up from a deep freeze, and... I was in the army, pre-war? That explains a lot as to why the Enclave trusted me in the first place, I was already in the system. Oh, hey. Nora, right? Oh, she's dead. Well, I can fix that, because she'd want to get her kid back too. And wow, that was surprisingly draining, she must have been gone for a long time. Hi, honey, it's been a very long and complicated journey, sorry for you getting shot but you're all better now, let's go find our son. Oh look, our house is still .. uh, kind of intact, in a manner of speaking. I can fix this, though, you get some sleep and it'll all be better by morning.
- Good morning! Told you I could fix up the house. Nothing on TV, and the fridge is mostly empty, though. Started a garden in the back yard. Feel like going to Concord and seeing what we can see? Great! Oh hey, raiders. Yeah, the wasteland's full of jerks, here, take this pistol and cover me, let's hit the museum. What's that, Preston? Settlers need our help? Here, have a standard issue US Army AER80 laser rifle. It's a lot more heavy duty than your musket. Where'd I get it? Well, apparently while I was frozen I was also out west helping reestablish the government, and a couple of years ago they knocked over Caesar's Legion. Oh hey, Mama Murphy. Yeah, it's a burden when people don't understand, believe me I know, but I'm gonna make sure you guys are safe and we'll see what we can do from there. Sanctuary Hills is currently undergoing a bit of restoration, I'm sure it'll be safe for you guys.
- What's that, Preson? Reestablish the Minutemen? Ah, but I'm part of the US Army, and after I retired from the military I joined the secret service. Congratulations, colonel, you are hereby deputized as part of the United States Army, Massachesetts special division, we'll be bringing more into the fold until we can establish contact with US Army command in Cheyenne Mountain. Oh, no, I assure you I'm not crazy, why else would I have a garage full of modern and ruggedized US Army issue equipment? We've got enough here to equip a platoon, which is more than enough to push back most raiders. Hell of a super mutant problem here though, it sounds like - they wiped most of those out back west, or at least the hostile ones.
- Hey, dig that Hancock guy. Not crazy about ghouls - uh, think radiation zombie types except they're not undead per se, some of them go feral - but Goodneighbor's a hell of a town. Yeah, you're right, Magnolia's kind of cute... oh? Yeah, I'm totally up for that, live in the moment, yeah? Oh... hey, that's the guy who gave us a spot in the Vault. Hey, guy. Uh, sure, go ahead and chill in Sanctuary, it's a nice spot these days, got enough farming going now to feed a small city, now if you'll excuse me I need to get back to my wife and our new girlfriend who is totally going to not get attached. Ahem.
- Oh hey, Diamond City. They... literally turned the stadium into a city. Wow, that's unexpected. Impressive, too. Once Sanctuary is fully built up, I bet we could trade with them. We should see how many people we can get up there, god knows there's more room there than there is in the stadium. And... right, Nick Valentine, let's go find our son's kidnapper. ... San Francisco Sunlights? That's my favorite brand of cigar. At least this Kellogg character has taste. Oh hey, a bunker full of killbots. Good thing you've got that armor, honey. Me? Oh, don't worry about it, even if they shoot me in the head I'll be fine- DAMN IT THEY SHOT ME IN THE HEAD. That stings. Yeah, you always said I had a hard head, there's your proof, but that still stings.
- Hi, Kellogg. Honey, would you go wait down the steps? Thanks. Anyways, it's good to meet you in person, Conrad. Yeah, I'm not going to kill you, consider me the man who knew too much. You're just doing what they told you and the wasteland is a nightmare, just tell them that I threatened mutual destruction with this here Fat Man. Course, you could always go join the US army, they'd probably want to replace a few implants but overall they'd kill to get someone with your talents in there, or maybe a secret service agent? Anyway, feel free to tell them that I know way more than I should, otherwise I wouldn't have said they should send a courser after me or that they're the reason there are even super mutants on the east coast, or that I know your dad was a piece of shit and your mom gave you that very revolver when you were a child, and trust me you're better off not knowing how I know. Oh, and you shot my wife, you asshole, so I'm obligated to knock you into next week.
- Boop! Coma.
- Oh, hey, right, synths. Can't we all just get along? No? That's okay. Honey, would you put these killbots out of my misery? Thanks! Kellogg needs to rest, and then report in, and I'll explain everything to you on the way to Nuka-World. Yeah, it's... complex, and getting Shaun requires this jerk to wake back up and report in, trust me I've got a plan even if it sounds weird. Anyways! So I woke up from the Vault and found out that I had a lot of extra memories in my head. I remember our life from before the war, and also all the other lifetimes I've lived, one of which was happening during my coma, and also I can legit do magic, which is why you have the US Army's current issue kit there and why I have this handy dandy gauss rifle. Shaun was taken from us something like sixty years ago, so he's grown into adulthood. Don't think he ever had any kids, but we'll have to find out later.
- And here we are, the station that goes to Nuka-World... oh hey it isn't overrun by Gunners yet, awesome. Let me just turn this on here, and hey, here comes the tram. Hey, Harvey, how you doing? Hey, don't worry about giving me the usual spiel, I already know the drill, my wife and I came in to run the Gauntlet. Yeah, we're totally nuts, but it'll be fun. And here... we... go. Pop some RadX, and here honey lob some water bottles at the guy in the electric power armor and I'll punch the armor to pieces because I'm stronger than I look. Hi, Colter! Bye, Colter! Hi, raiders! I regret to inform you that the doors are locked because I am a time travelling cheater. Bye, raiders! Oh, that was a little bloody, wasn't it? Trust me, it beats the alternative. Let's turn on the power, clean up the stragglers, and turn this place back into the traders' outpost it used to be. Get folks' collars off, turn on the power... boom, Bob's your uncle. Oh, and I hear Caleb Bradburton's frozen head is here, too. ... Yep, there he is. Kill you? Don't be ridiculous! I'm going to restore you to life! No, trust me, you're better off not asking how. Nora, Sierra, give me a minute of privacy? Aaaand... there you go. Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Bradberton, I'm with the United States Secret Service, I'll be taking Project Cobalt's findings back to them on your behalf and we'll be in touch. ... oh. Oh, that's a hell of a greeting, Sierra. Oh my. Honey, let's uh, give them some privacy.
- Back in the Commonwealth... Mechanist? Sounds like their machines are malfunctioning, let's go meet her. How do I know it's a her? Because I'm cheating and skipping ahead in the story that is our weird lives. Plus if we get there fast enough we can deal with it before the Rust Devils get too established, they're some real jerk raiders. Oh, looks like we're too late, I'll just have to root them out later. Here's where we want to go, just move slowly and we'll get there without a problem. Aaand... here we are, the back entrance to her headquarters. Hi, Izzy! Bad news, your robobrains went rampant, you're going to want to issue recall orders. I'd phrase them as wanting to improve your bots' armaments. You're a genius though, this is just a thing that you didn't have any control over... ah, don't worry, we're not going to hurt you. In fact, I could arrange for you to work with some real engineers...
- Onward! There's a Brotherhood detachment needing fire support right over... there. Yeah, those are the kind of feral ghouls I was telling you about. Pleasure to meet you three, I'm Special Agent Nathan Archer with the United States Secret Service and I'm deputizing you all. No, I'm not joining the Brotherhood of Steel, but I am authorized to grant you clemency on behalf of the department of the army. I'll be perfectly happy to talk to Elder Maxson when he arrives on the Prydwen. Orrrr you can shoot at me. Yeah, that's going to end REAL well for you, have a nice afterlife you three. See, this is why nobody likes the Brotherhood of Steel!
- Anyways. Dum de de, it's the Railroad, who is happy to free synths and cares not a whit about human slaves! Dum de do, here's a courser, and now with Railroad magic we can get into the Institute! Dum de dai, hi Shaun, it's me, your father. Also here's your mother, she's back from the dead. Surprise! Oh, and the government is going to be nationalizing the Institute, we'll start by shutting down Synth production because you are making self-aware individuals even if they are not technically human. The alternative is I nuke Boston with you at ground zero. No, Shaun, a fucking ICBM, because I will fully put you and your Institute over my metaphorical thermonuclear knee. You don't believe me? That's fine then, you've got a radio transmitter that can work with these specifications? Yes? Excellent, let's go place a long distance call and bounce it off this here satellite... ah, see, suddenly you believe me when you see proof that there's a full military that can drop a platoon on your head in the space of a day. I'm glad you reconsidered.
- And Nora, I hate to leave you behind, but I have places to go and things that I must see. Do take care of the Institute for me, won't you dear?
