- Katawa Yandere (KY) is a story of love. Of determination, motivation, and perseverance. As depicted by insane crippled Japanese schoolgirls. Yes it is logical. Shut up.
- For those who don’t know: ‘Yandere’ is a Japanese euphemism for a character who is literally driven insane by the strength of their feelings for their romantic interest. Though the term is modern the concept is ancient, including examples like the goddess Ishtar and Princess Medea.
- KY is a romantic black-comedy fanfiction that I write improv around player-polls in the style of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure quest. If you've never played one of these, you're missing out. It loosely follows the plot of the Visual Novel Katawa Shoujo, so having played through at least one route of that is a fairly good place to start if you're needing context. Also, I need to stress that because it's written totally improv and under a time limit, the occasional spelling or grammar mistake will slip through. Sorry all, but I'm only human.

- A few pointers for Hanako’s Route:
- + The goal of the route isn’t necessarily to kill the other girls, it’s to remove them as potential romantic partners to your love interest. It is theoretically possible to win the game without killing anyone. Either way, a high degree of foresight is needed because the choices which mark someone for death (including you) are not always obvious.
- + The Yan-Dere Meter
- Yan [/////_____] Dere
- The moral-choice system of the game.
- Obsessive, controlling, or violent actions push you more into the ‘yan’ mindset – which unlock even more unstable, controlling, or violent actions. Conversely - empathetic, gentle, or seductive actions lead you more into ‘dere’. Either path has its own strengths and weaknesses, as does playing with a blend of the two.
- ALL alignments will lead to victory – the difference comes in what form that victory will take.
- + As you make bolder moves the other girls will adapt to your tactics. So think carefully about how you want to take them on.
- And most importantly of all, don't take this, or yourselves for that matter, 'too' seriously. Loosen up and have some fun. :)
