04[01:01] <x_Scott> [You wonder if you should go with the moral quandry, or the miscommunication issue. You decide, to save face, to go with the latter. You work with these people now, best not to make enemies. You put your professionalism smile on. "I did not get the notice."]
[01:04] <x_Defthand> [You frown. "You szhould have gotten an email regarding it. Wasz there a szerver error, perhapsz?" Or your secretary could have not sent it, but she's been dependable in the past.]

04[01:12] <x_Scott> ["I must admit that this was much...quicker than I expected. He was likely to make a full recovery." You put the clipboard in the crook of your arm, the papers efectively worthless at this point.]

"I must admit, I have not seen a culling firsthand for....maybe ten years. And I'm uncertain if there have been changes." Or how its done is dependant on the social and finanical standings of the trolls involved.]

04[01:29] <x_Scott> [That gets an honest smile from you. "To which I am rather grateful of." You reply to the first statement. Then nodding at the second. "I thought no less, I must admit that most of the concern was at the..." You choose your word carefully. "efficency of the procedure."]
[01:30] <x_Defthand> [Your eyebrows go up. "Well, that doesz tend to go hand in hand with comfort and dignity. I don't believe I can think of a szingle troll who would opt for a szlow method."]
04[01:33] <x_Scott> [Another nod. "No, you're right. If that is what they want, then it is for the best if it is quick." Pause. "Are there other Medicullers on staff here?"]
[01:34] <x_Defthand> [You nod. "Szeveral. And I can vouch for all of them asz to their care and szensze of duty."]
[01:34] <x_Defthand> [You find the paper you were looking for and start scanning it.]
04[01:35] <x_Scott> ["I didn't mean to call their integrity in question, simply curious."]
[01:37] <x_Defthand> [You then hand the paper, a consent form, to him. "You are taking thisz quite well, compared to szome other humansz I have known."]
04[01:39] <x_Scott> [You take the paper and start scanning it as you talk. "I can appreciate the...sentiment." You take the time reading the paper to contemplate if you want to share exactly why. Taking a pen out and signing it after you finish reading it.]
[01:41] <x_Defthand> [Oh, good. "Would you care to watch the footage of the procedure, to confirm it was performed humanely?"]
04[01:45] <x_Scott> [You're not sure if you should or not. You don't want to make it seem like you don't trust her to do her job correctly. You hesitate, then shake your head. "No, I don't think that'll be necessary. I trust your expertise, and I think I have already taken up more of your time than I should have."]

04[01:54] <x_Scott> [You shake it, and have the most intense headrush you can imagine. Time seems to slow, and you're confused for the few seconds it takes you to realize what is exactly happening.]

04[02:07] <x_Scott> ["No. I guess not." You sit down again, slowly. "I, uhm." You check your watch again. "I finished work about fifteen minutes ago. Should I wait for you, or should we plan to meet some other time?" You hope you're not being too forward, but its mostly lost in the excitement.]
[02:09] <x_Defthand> ["I have paperwork, but thisz isz really an extraordinary szituation. I believe I can take the reszt of the night off."]
04[02:14] <x_Scott> ["Did you want to go somewhere? Maybe for dinner or something? Give us a chance to get to know each other better." Neutral ground is good, right? You certainly have a few things to explain.]

04[02:17] <x_Scott> [You nod. "Sounds good to me. I've only been on planet for less than two weeks, so I haven't been yet." You get back up out of your seat. "I guess I will take you up on your offer to see me out." You grin.]
[02:33] <x_Defthand> [You smile back at him. "Only two weeksz? Did you come from Earth, or one of the other human worldsz?" you ask conversationally as you lead him to the exit.]

04[02:45] <x_Scott> [You nod. "Development doesn't always equate to pleasantness. Something to be said about getting away from it all at times." You blink as you walk out of the hospital. "So, should I save the big revelations for after dinner?"]

[02:45] <x_Defthand> [You blink at the nervousness.]
[02:46] <x_Defthand> ["If you want to. I think we ought to get them out of the way quickly, though."]
04[02:48] <x_Scott> [You scratch your chin, then stop when you realize you're scratching at the markings. "Sorry, nervous habit." You'll have to remember to stop doing that. "Well, I suppose the biggest thing is I have a daughter." You pause to gauge her reaction before continuing.]
[02:49] <x_Defthand> [None whatsoever. You've worked around humans enough to be passingly familiar with their familial systems.]
[02:50] <x_Defthand> ["Isz szhe here with you?" you ask, curiously.]
04[02:53] <x_Scott> ["Her name's Mary, and yes." Makes you feel a little better. "As is her mother. We're no longer together, but we're on good terms. Its one of the bigger reasons I chose to move to this planet is so that Mary could be close to her." You chuckle. "I expect she'll be rather excited to meet you. She's, uh, rather energetic at times." You might have inhereted a family Defthand.]

04[03:02] <x_Scott> [Follow along. You're not quite sure where the diner is, so she's leading. "She, uh, may hug you, probably want to show you all the stuff shes done with her room. Probably bombard you with questions about anything you might know about marine life and the oceans here."]
[03:03] <x_Defthand> ["Next to nothing, szadly. I don't take much of an intereszt in marine life."]
04[03:04] <x_Scott> [You nod. "She might be a bit disapointed, but I expect she'll consider you family right away. If you like, I can talk to her before hand, if you're not too comfortable with physical contact."]
[03:07] <x_Defthand> ["I would rather be warned before being hugged, I admit," you say. You point out the restaurant up ahead. It's a basic, human-run diner, but it's cheap and open at odd hours.]
04[03:10] <x_Scott> ["I'll make sure to mention it to her then. I should probably also tell her where I am now that I think about it." You quickly pull out your phone and send her a short text: 'Found soulmate. Having a meal with her. Be back later'.]
[03:13] <x_Defthand> ["Would you mind if I treated you?" you ask.]
04[03:14] <x_Scott> ["No of course not. As long as you let me return the favour next time." You open the door to the dinner for her.]

[03:16] <x_Defthand> [You go in and take a seat. You already know what you want, but you don't suppose Dr. Mason does. "Szo, how doesz your culture normally handle szoulmatesz?"]
04[03:17] <x_Scott> [You sit down across from her. "Well, it really depends on the people in the bond. Certainly my parents their bond very differently than my uncle did. Its really up to us."]
[03:22] <x_Defthand> [You nod at him to continue.]
04[03:29] <x_Scott> ["You have the steretypical bond my parents had. The 'love at first sight' sort of bond you see in movies." A look of fond reminiscent on your face as you take a sip of water. You look back at Defthand as you continue. "But you can also have anything ranging from that to something resembling a pale quadrant to close friends. Each of these and anything else is equally valid. It depends on what you and I would like."]
[03:31] <x_Defthand> [The two of you are handed a menu and glasses of ice water. "And what do you want? I am not szure myszelf, yet."]

[03:35] <x_Defthand> [You nod. "That would probably be a good idea. But, it is alszo probably a good thing that we don't work directly with each other."]

"I will admit to wanting company other than my daughter on a day to day basis. Moving to a new planet means your connections are few and far between."]

[03:48] <x_Defthand> ["Nothing too szevere. We're not /wrigglersz/." You shake your head. "But, they may try to szwitch out your coffee for decaf."]
04[03:51] <x_Scott> [You nod. "I'll keep my eye out for that." You hand the menu to the waiter and place your order of a BLT and a vanilla milkshake. "So what do you do for fun?"]
[03:55] <x_Defthand> [You order yourself a club sandwich. "I do szome reading, szome lisztening to playsz, juszt general quiet entertainment. I'm rather boring, really."]
[03:59] <x_Defthand> [You shrug. "Szometimesz I look through hisztory?"]
04[03:59] <x_Scott> ["Well I guess if someone was going to try and make a documentary maybe. But books are some of the least boring things I've ever come across."]

"I cook a lot, and I like getting out away from the city for a canoe trip or hiking when I can."]

[22:58] <x_Scott> [You thank the waitress before answering the question. "Mostly because of family." Oh that smells good. You have a bite and savour it before swallowing and continuing. "My uncle worked as a ranger in the mountains back on Earth. I was visiting him for a year when I was in highschool, almost 25 years ago. Erm, eleven sweeps ago. There was an avalanche, and my uncle was the closest person that could get there. I went with him, and helped rescue the people. It was the first time it really got into my head that, saving people sort of felt really good." A couple more bits to allow time for questions before you continue.]

[23:06] <x_Scott> ["I thought about both of those, but they got thrown out of the window later. The idea to be a doctor was also in there but it, uh, wasn't until I met Zeimah that I looked into getting into medicine proper." You blush a little bit. You're not normally the sort of person to give out all these details so freely, but it doesn't feel wrong with Defthand. "Zeimah is Mary's other parent."]

[23:13] <x_Scott> ["Not as many as some, and not recently, but that thought its always in the back of your head, you know?" You finish off the first half of the sandwich before continuing. "Thats sort of where I decided to start going down the path to be a doctor. Didn't have the best marks in the world, but hard work goes a long way to accomplishing what you want."]
