  1. The City That Never Stops Raining (and the lady who lives there)
  2.
  3. In The City That Never Stops Raining, (and the lady who lives there) a lady dressed in all black was walking down the street with her umbrella. The lady in black lived in this city, and grew up here. Black buildings loomed over the city and stared the lady down. Ghosts walked the streets endlessly. It was always dark and never stopped raining.
  4. The lady in black wondered as she passed a ghost if there were other places where it did not rain. Places with a bright sun and blankets of snow. A place where ghosts did not walk the streets. It was all so curious to her mind that there are many places unlike any she has seen before. She wondered if she would ever get out of the city that never stops raining. She wondered and wondered and wondered until suddenly she heard a bright "Hello!"
  5. She thought the voice was only in her head, or a passerby greeting her, but then she heard another "Hello!". It was then she realized the voice was not in her head, but directly above it. Her umbrella had sprung to life and was speaking to her!
  6. "Hello, hello, hello!" again and again the umbrella had said, "I have come to offer you a gift!"
  7. "Oh?" the lady in black said. "What is your gift?" Ghosts continued to pass her, paying no attention to the talking umbrella.
  8. "On the winds I shall take you out of the city to marvelous places of your dreams, places you have never seen before!" the umbrella had shouted.
  9. "I would like that," the lady in black said "very much in fact."
  10. "Then hold on to me," the umbrella continued, "and the wind will carry us on its shoulders!"
  11. And the wind swept the lady in black off her feet and through the clouds, to a place she had never seen before.
  12. When they landed, the lady stepped on crisp green grass, and could look up to see a bright sun shining on her face. Green meadows beneath her, as far as the eye could see, and in the distance she saw farms and trees. She thought to herself "This is a great place to live.", but then she wondered and wondered and wondered until she spoke, "This place is too bright."
  13. "Oh?" the umbrella said "I thought you said the city where it never stops raining was too dark!"
  14. "Yes," she agreed, "but I wish to go somewhere else."
  15. "Well then, let the wind carry us on its back, and you will see places you have never seen before!"
  16. And the wind swept the lady in black off her feet and through the clouds, to a place she had never seen before.
  17. When they landed, the lady in black stepped on a blanket of snow, hearing it's crunch as her feet sunk into the fluff. She could catch a snowflake in her hand, and see it melt instantly. Dead trees carrying snow on their arms could be seen through the gentle snowflakes falling. She thought to herself "This is a very pretty place." but then she wondered and wondered and wondered until she spoke "This place is too cold."
  18. "Oh?" the umbrella said "I thought you said the city where it never stops raining rained far too much!
  19. "Yes," she agreed, "but I wish to go somewhere else."
  20. "Well then, let the wind carry us in its arms to a place you have never seen before!"
  21. And the wind swept the lady in black off her feet and through the clouds, to a place she had never seen before.
  22. When they landed, the lady in black stepped upon the concrete of a bustling nighttime city, unlike the city at home. It was full of people, rushing, walking to their destination away from here, paying no attention. Lights everywhere were lit up, advertising various places. She thought to herself "This might be a nice place to live in.", but she wondered and wondered and wondered until she spoke "This place is too crowded."
  23. "Oh?" the umbrella said, "I thought you didn't like the ghosts that walked the streets of the city that never stops raining!"
  24. "Yes," she said "but I wish to go home."
  25. "Home?"
  26. "Yes."
  27. The umbrella was confused at her desire, and he wondered and wondered and wondered until he spoke "If you say so."
  28. And the wind swept the lady in black off her feet and through the clouds, to a place she had seen before.
  29. When they landed, the lady stepped on familiar ground. Ghosts passed her, the buildings stood tall above her, and again she heard the rain upon her umbrella. It was a gentle rain that rocked her to sleep when it pattered against her window at night. She did not need to wonder and wonder and wonder any more, for she knew she was home, and home is where she belonged.
  30. In The City That Never Stops Raining (and the lady who belongs there)
