- What's the point? For a directory to be effective it needs to have traffic. If it's new, it doesn't have any traffic.
- Does anyone even use directories anymore?? Can't remember the last time I used one.
- I also want to know this, are directories still any good?
- Personally I would say no, I haven't used one in years, when was the last time you used one instead of using a search engine?
- Not talking about using a directory to find something.
- What I mean is, are they still good enough to get a few back links, webpages indexed etc, seo purposes...
- Aah got you, I don't think they're worth the effort anymore as far as SEO goes, phplinkdirectory used to be one of the main players in the industry and even they don't think it's worth it: https://www.phplinkdirectory.com/the-link-building-bubble/
- Thanks for that article. I agree that google is getting smarter in cutting out spam, but I still think that even though links are not as important as they used to be, still they hold good significance in ranking websites.
- I think google only stopped "public display" of page rank, but they still use it themselves for ranking purposes.
- After all, there is no other way of knowing which sites are more important than others...
- I would avoid for 2 reasons.
- #1 - The site is not established and may end up being blacklisted by Google. This happens a lot to directory and pay-to-post sites.
- #2 - They may end up giving your phone number away, then you get pointless phone calls from sales associates for the next year.
- what directories you mean?

- Directories could be effective, but new one I don't think so. You should use tools to see how much traffic have the website where you are submitting your link.
- How does it matters if a blacklisted website is linking to me?
- I have no control on who links to me, and I think google understands this.
- It cannot lay a penalty on me, if some blacklisted site links to me...
- Back in the day, directories were good for backlinks but not anymore.
- I would say, don't even bother with them.
- I would personally say it depends on the directory. New ones probably aren't worth the trouble, but depending on your industry some of them are going to be worthwhile.
- This might include aligning your Search ads with dynamic page headlines, or repeating calls to action again on your site.
- If you have recently changed ad copy based on A/B testing insights, it could also impact your conversion performance.
- Test out these different avenues for improvement.
- 4. Demographics
- Although demographic characteristics don’t always predict user intent, they can still inform tailored landing pages.
- Google Ads has a wealth of valuable data on how different demographics perform towards your KPIs.
- This is especially true if you are using Smart Bidding – Google’s machine learning algorithms are sophisticated enough to comprehensively understand which user characteristics predict high intent to click and convert.
- Just as you can use demographic data for targeting in Google Ads, you can also leverage this information to create personalized landing page experiences for:
- High-performing user demographics.
- Or groups whose behavior you’d like to modify.
- The most obvious examples are age and gender.
- If the 18-24 demographic has a high CTR but tends not to convert, you could test advertising discounts or sale products on a personalized landing page for this demographic segment.
- You might find that prices were putting them off, or you could discover that regardless of discount deals they don’t convert as the products themselves aren’t of interest.
- This will give you further insights to feed back into your PPC strategy. Similar logic would apply if this performance pattern were true for one gender and not for another.
- You can also use your Google Ads in-market and affinity audiences in Google’s Optimize.
- If you sell hotel packages, for example, you could test personalizing landing pages for people in-market for a budget holiday.
- This might mean placing ‘featured’ budget deals at the top of the page, or sending them to a landing page pre-sorted in ascending price order.
- 5. Device
- Another dataset to examine is device segmentation: how does your conversion performance vary by device?
- Historically desktop performed better, often due to smaller data packages with phone contracts, slower mobile internet, and poorly optimized mobile sites.
- When you have the same product in multiple shopping campaigns, you can determine which campaign should participate in the auction for that product with the campaign priority – high, medium, or low.
- The highest priority campaign will always enter the auction first, regardless of how much you are bidding.
- To create a shopping keyword segmentation structure retailers must start by building three campaigns of the same product, or group of products, each with a different priority setting – high, medium, and low.
- The priority settings will act as a funnel, filtering down more specific keywords via negatives.
- Below is a table to highlight how the shopping keyword segmentation structure works.
- Campaign Name Search Terms Campaign Priorities Negative Keywords Bid
- Non-Brand Non-brand queries High Brand queries Medium
- Catch All Inefficient non-brand queries Medium Brand queries Low
- Brand Brand queries Low High
- Shopping keyword segmentation gives advertisers the ability to:
- Own the SERP on branded terms.
- Optimize bids based on non-brand performance.
- Control what products to advertise at different stages of the purchase journey.
- Shopping keyword segmentation is a worthwhile approach to ensure you are driving sales on high intent queries and cutting spend on inefficient head terms.
- Dynamic Search Ads Are an Asset, Not an Accessory
- Leverage the power of Dynamic Search Ads to expand your keyword set at a lower cost.
- When crafting ecommerce campaigns, you’ll often find that the most logical keywords are also the most expensive and least profitable.
- There’s an old adage that around 15% of daily searches are not new to Google; sure you’ll find them via broad match with a higher CPC, but it’s more efficient to let DSA do the dirty work for you.
- When crafting a DSA campaign, here are a few things you need to keep in mind:
