  1. >Day 5 in Lyra’s world. Equestria.
  2. >Notes and tones have replaced your language, as far as communicating goes. Written words seemed impossible to comprehend, as did oral syllables, but pictures and music bars really saved the day.
  3. >But of course, only Lyra knew her own lyrical language, and was your translator pretty permanently.
  4. >Ah well.
  5. >Yesterday, Lyra’s letter to Princess Celestia was responded to. Celestia herself was going to identify the findings on the race known as humans by one “Professor Lyra Heartstrings.”
  6. >You chuckle.
  7. >Tomorrow was the day she was to come and see you for herself, so you made sure to be as presentable as you could.
  8. >Which meant clothes.
  9. >Which meant money.
  10. >Which meant, in turn that you would need to get a job or something all while having no way to communicate without Lyra.
  11. “Ffffuuuuuu-”
  12. >Great, already talking again.
  13. >You sigh, popping your neck muscles as you try to recall the basics of Lyrica.
  14. >One note for a preposition, and the conjunctions as well.
  15. >Two notes on basic objects, the pitch of which changed what you meant.
  16. >4 notes for directions, 3 for the times of day…the list went on and got more complex.
  17. >You practically had to whistle a song for p0ny names, so you stuck to naming them by cutie mark if you could.
  18. >And if ponies understood mime, you wouldn’t even need to do this nonsense, but they’re pretty wary of you making fast movements.
  19. >”Anon!”
  20. >You hear Bon Bon yelling from upstairs.
  21. >Seriously, she needs to learn this stuff too, otherwise it was going to get difficult around here.
  22. >Getting up, you dust yourself off and head on up. Probably breakfast time or something.
  23. >”About time, Anon. Now hurry up and eat, Lyra’s already off doing what she needs to do to prepare her presentation to Princess Celestia tomorrow, which means I’m in charge today, understand?”
  24. >You blink and raise an eyebrow.
  25. >”Of course you don’t understand. Ugg, I’m going to have to learn that new music language of hers, aren’t I? Lyrica, or whatever it’s called. Otherwise it’s going to get difficult around here, won’t it.”
  26. >She points to the food, a simple eggs and toast.
  27. >Goody! Just the food you were looking for.
  28. >You take a seat and prepare to eat, waiting for Bon Bon to sit first.
  29. >After she seats herself and takes a sip of her coffee, she starts talking again.
  30. >Man that’s going to get annoying.
  31. >”You know, Anon, I think we’re pretty alike somehow. Like even if we don’t know what I’m saying or vice versa, we get each other. Heh, all this talking is probably going to get annoying fast, isn’t it?”
  32. >You just keep eating.
  33. >”Riight, well at least we got off on the right hoof, I can be pretty weird early in the morning, so I’m just glad I didn’t slam the door in your face or anything. You’re pretty cute, don’t want to ruin the money maker…”
  34. >She blushes, then shakes it away, grinning.
  35. >”Hehe, I can say whatever I like, and you can’t even tell! I don’t know if that makes you a good listener, but at least it makes you invulnerable to gossip!”
  36. >The rest of breakfast goes by in blessed silence.
  37. >You let out a burp.
  38. “My compliments to the chef, Bon Bon!”
  39. >You wink and flash an OK symbol with your hands.
  40. >Of course, Bon Bon understands none of this, just like yesterday and the day before.
  41. >”Yeah whatever, Anon. Just do what you’re going to do. You don’t know what I’m saying, I don’t know what YOU’RE saying and so I’M forced to do EVERYTHING around here and-”
  42. >You’ve already placed your dish in the sink and are out the door.
  43. >Cuz you the man with the plan.
  44. >That giant bag of tech should solve your financial woes, no problem!
  45. >Especially the solar charger, if you could have that replicated.
  46. >You had inquired about it yesterday to no avail, but today would be different!
  47. >You head into town, determined to succeed today.
  48. >”Step right up to tha Cutie Mark Crusarders Fahn Wares Emporeeyum!”
  49. >Hmm, that sounds like Applebloom.
  50. >You hadn’t seen any of the crusaders at all so far, maybe it was time to pay them a visit.
  51. >You follow the yellow filly’s voice to a poorly decorated stall that had a large word on it crossed out and a smaller sign next to it with more words.
  52. >You would bet your bottom bit the first word was Lemonade.
  53. >”Wow! You’re that Anonymous feller, aint ya?”
  54. >You look to her and shrug, then point to your ears.
  55. >”Can’t hear, huh? ”
  56. >You roll your eyes.
  57. >”Well me an the girls are gonna get our cutie marks for sure, today! We found a whole bag load of stuff a few days ago and tried everything we could to figure out what to do with it, but today we’re selling it! Sweetie belle handles the parts, Scootaloo built the stand, and ahm the salesp0ny!”
  58. >You take a look at the things she’s got for sale.
  59. >There’s some nice RAM cards, a USB keyboard, a playstation two, a piece of…
  60. >…ponies don’t have video games.
  61. >Ponies don’t have electricity or RAM cards.
  62. >THIS IS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE YOUR STUFF.
  63. >”Anon, yer face is getting red there.”
  64. “This is my stuff that went missing!”
  65. >”H-hey now! Don’t need ta go yellin in yer alien talk! It’s bad fer business!”
  66. >You take a few pieces of motherboard and RAM, assembling them with ease with other parts on the stall and behind it while Applebloom just looks at you in shock.
  67. “See? It’s my stuff. You just took it apart and are selling it incomplete.”
  68. >”Wow, ah didn’t think we could even put it back together after we took it apart…what’s your cutie mark, mister?”
  69. >She looks at you, then your boots, then the tech, then you until it dawns on her.
  70. >”This is…yours? Oops…Uh…gotta go, no refunds!”
  71. >She swipes the tech into a bag and bounds off towards Sweet Apple Acres.
  72. >You NEED that stuff back! Bits or not, that solar charger is the only chance you have at recharging the boots; slow as it might get, it’s better than nothing!
  73. >You take a Jump to in front of the little filly.
  74. >”Eek!”
  75. >She bounds off in another direction.
  76. >At about this point you realize a few things.
  77. >One: that bag has nowhere near all the pieces of tech you brought.
  78. >Two: if she sees you, she’ll run away.
  79. >Three: …you weren’t sure on three, but you were reasonably sure she was just going to head to the CMC clubhouse in the end.
  80. >You Jump to the CMC clubhouse, which is empty and devoid of both the crusaders and your stuff.
  81. >You sigh.
  82. “I’m going to have to do this the hard way, aren’t I?”
  83. >You Jump back to where you were, scaring the daylights out of a p0ny couple.
  84. “Sorry.”
  85. >You locate Applebloom fast enough and begin the next step of your master plan…which has only one step.
  86. >Follow dat pone.
  87. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KefXvZEwCSc
  88. >Hiding behind carts, stalls, buildings and trees you manage to follow her out towards Fluttershy’s cottage.
  89. >You can see her meet the other two crusaders, each holding similar bags.
  90. >They all walk as a group, wary of being followed, sometimes even breaking away to search nearby obstacles.
  91. >If you couldn’t just cheat and Jump, you’d have gotten caught a couple of times.
  92. >”Alright girls, ah think all this stuff is Anon’s alien stuff.”
  93. >”But what do we do? Return it?”
  94. >”I don’t want a thievery cutie mark…”
  95. >”Let’s just bury it out around here, an have our sisters help us talk to him so he won’t be mad.”
  96. >You watch as the three industrious fillies bury all of your gear in the dirt by dumping them out of the bags.
  97. >Well, you weren’t upset before, but you sure are now! Who knows what all is broken and irreparable at this point…
  98. >You grind your teeth in your silent rage.
  99. >”Let’s go girls!”
  100. >”CUTIE MARK CRUSADER ACCIDENTAL FELONY MEDIATORS, YAY!”
  101. >And off they go.
  102. >From the way the three just screamed at the same time, they probably have another hairbrained scheme to get their marks.
  103. >Whatever.
  104. >As soon as they’re out of eyesight, you hop off the tree you were hiding in and start digging up the spot, filling the bags with your stuff again, and shaking dirt out of them when you could.
  105. “Why didn’t they just bury the whole bags? I mean-OH COME ON.”
  106. >Your Wii is snapped clean in half.
  107. >Magnificent.
  108. >Well, this is what you get for bringing games to another dimension, and then abandoning your stuff because you overheard Lyra saying she didn’t like you or want you at all.
  109. >Stupid thing to leave for, now that you think about it.
  110. >It’s in the past, can’t cry about it now. The Wii will receive its Viking funeral later.
  111. >Having gathered the stuff you fix the hole and Jump back to Lyra and Bon Bon’s basement and begin to re-sort and repair all of your tech.
  112. >The solar charger however, is not among the objects present.
  113. >They probably sold it. You’ll have to wait for Lyra to get it back.
  114. >Hours later you hear a knock at the door, quickly followed by Bon Bon’s signature yell.
  115. >You reach the top of the stair, only to find the entire mane six.
  116. >Behind them are the cutie mark crusaders, all of whom look to have been crying, Sweetie Belle still sniffling.
  117. >”Anonymous, we came here to tell you how sorry we were for taking your stuff, and then we were going to return it, but it’s all been stolen again!”
  118. “Listen, you’re real cute, but I don’t understand a word you’re saying.”
  119. >All the ponies look to Bon Bon.
  120. >”What? Don’t look at me, I don’t know what he’s saying either.”
  121. >You facepalm, then pull one of your pieces out of your pocket, giving a tightlipped smile to the CMC.
  122. “Can’t hide stuff from me!”
  123. >The girls collectively sigh.
  124. >Huh, thought they wouldn’t be so happy to see you took your stuff back.
  125. >”Well ahm an honest p0ny an Ah expected better of mah sister than ta steal, but you’ve got yer things in the end, so it’s alright. Tell Anon here that if he needs a job, ah could use his help down at the orchards.”
  126. >Applebloom looks to the floor.
  127. >”I am dreadfully sorry, Anonymous. What my sister did was not acceptable, if you should forgive her, I would love to fashion you a suit of some kind, perhaps your whole wardrobe?”
  128. >Sweetie Belle joins Applebloom in the p0ny vs ground staring contest.
  129. >Scootaloo looks around then sighs.
  130. >”I don’t have a sister, so I’ll just do…whatever you want, I guess.”
  131. >”Oh really, squirt?”
  132. >Rainbow smiles at Scootaloo.
  133. >”Listen here Anonymous, I’m her role model so I’ll take responsibility here. You need anything, ANYTHING, just call on me.”
  134. >She holds out her hoof.
  135. >Ah, you know this one.
  136. >You bop the offered appendage with your fist and smile.
  137. >…now if only you knew what the heck any of these ponies were saying.
  138. >You look about for a pencil and paper, then draw a large question mark in a speech bubble.
  139. >”He still can’t even UNDERSTAND in Equestrian, can he?”
  140. >”’Fraid not, Twilight. Lyra’s been teaching him Lyrica as she invents it. I don’t know it either.”
  141. >You offer the pages to Twilight, who ends up drawing over the entire page on both sides to convey the basics.
  142. >The CMC were sorry, you had a job at Sweet Apple if you needed it, Rarity needs your measurements for clothes and Rainbow has your back.
  143. >You nod to Twilight and wave to all the mares.
  144. >They all file out, save for Twilight and Bon Bon.
  145. “Why aren’t you leaving?”
  146. >Twilight looks to you and smiles.
  147. >”I have a few more spells to try to understand you, just wanted to try them out…”
  148. >Twilight charged her horn, and you flinch.
  149. >There is no beam, but Twilight’s ears are glowing.
  150. “Phew, thought you were gonna hit me with something.”
  151. >”Poo, fought chewer gum and hate me wag selling?”
  152. >Bon Bon looks to Twilight like she’s speaking in tongues.
  153. >”Uh, pretty sure you didn’t translate that right.”
  154. >Twilight nods and dispels the magic, then charges a new spell.
  155. >Your ears burn slightly, like being out in the sun for too long.
  156. >”Testing, testing, Anonymous. Come in Anonymous.”
  157. >Your ears are ringing, and her mouth moves with no sound.
  158. >”Ok, strike two.”
  159. >She dispels this magic, and you can hear again.
  160. >”Third time’s the charm…I hope.”
  161. >You feel an itch inside your skull, and then you can hear words in Discord’s voice.
  162. >”Ah well, you’re still trying Twilight? Too bad. This human lacks the capacity for language cues…as you can plainly tell, I’ve ripped them right out of him. If he were to talk to another who knew his old language, they’d have the same luck. Just give up, Twiglat Spackle.”
  163. >Twiglat…er, Twilight and you share looks of horror.
  164. >”Oh…sorry.”
  165. “Man, fuck you too, Discord. With a rake, Fox only, Final Destination.”
  166. >Twilight excuses herself at last.
  167. “Well, can’t blame the girl for trying, right? At least she’s not as big of a bitch as I thought she’d be.”
  168. >”I’m going to assume whatever you said was something nice.”
  169. >By the end of the day, you have a snazzy suit, courtesy of Rarity and most of your gear and tech back.
  170. >All in all? Good day.
  171. >You hear Lyra’s harp from upstairs, ringing out “Lyra Home” accompanied by her saying, what you think is the same phrase in Equestrian.
  172. >You whistle back.
  173. “Anon home, have clothes for use for tomorrow Celestia and bag.”
  174. >You hear her come downstairs. In Lyrica: “And bag? What?”
  175. >You proudly present your things.
  176. >”Wooowww, look at all this stuff! And it all runs on lightning?”
  177. >She blinks, then repeats it on her harp.
  178. >You nod, unable to find a better word for electricity to correct her with.
  179. >You whistle out a:
  180. “All left sun charge and language book, then have all.”
  181. >She smiles then levitates a familiar book.
  182. >”Bought it today from the CMC. Heard you had a run in with em too.”
  183. >Neat.
  184. >You give her a hug and whistle goodnight.
  185. >”Good night, Anon. Sweet dreams.”
