  1. Acabei de dar a minha opinião sobre a legalização do aborto no Reddit e, como foi longa, resolvi colocar aqui também se interessar a alguém.
  2.
  3. Well, I am pro-choice and here is my view on this:
  4.
  5. First, abortions always happen even if they are not legal and lead to the death of, not only fetus that can’t survive on their own, but also mothers who already have a true life. I prefer to give mothers the chance to do it right than let them both die, since desperate mothers have always done it anyway.
  6.
  7. Second, the mother’s life and body is hers and I shouldn’t be able to force her to have a parasite inside her against her will. She must have a choice and she shouldn't be punished for it. I don’t believe the fetus has a life or a body of his own. Yes, he has his unique DNA, however he is in a parasite mode where he can’t survive outside of his mother’s body and will drain resources from her and alter her normal state of health. This means he is not independent, and he can put his mother’s life at risk, even before birth (not even talking about all the problems/responsibilities after). His DNA makes it only a possibility he will be born a human baby and alive. Abortions can happen naturally or by accident, we can’t be sure he will even ever become a human baby. If I have in my DNA the chance to have a disease sometime, it doesn’t mean I am sick already. So he is not a baby yet and may never be, even if no one made a forced abortion. The mother, however, is a human, has her body, has her life. I don't believe I have the right to not give her a choice and force her body and her life to changes and even risks she doesn't want. That's cruel and torture for me.
  8.
  9. Third, I don’t value life itself. I don’t believe people should be born to suffer. If something is not even born yet and I already know his parents won’t love him and take care of him and that in the best odds he will be put up for adoption and go through a long and excruciating process, I don’t see why it would be more ethical to force it to be born, when no one desires it and I already know the difficulties and the lack of love he will face. By not giving the mother a choice I am not only making her suffer, but also forcing a baby to be born to suffer too.
