  5. Fitting neatly in the palm, this tiny wild dumpling has been prepared in traditional style. The small, tubby animals are kept alive until required, upon which time they are tossed into boiling water and eaten straight from the pot after minimal cooking time. The soft meat of the animal is sweet and succulent, and the bones are delicate enough to merely add a light crunch to the morsel.

  10. The stall attendant turns to a wicker basket sitting behind the counter. Reaching into it with a pair of wooden tongs, he extracts a squeaking, writhing live wild dumpling.

  12. Without a change in expression, the attendant moves over to the pot of boiling water and drops the tubby creature in. It gives a final, high-pitched squeak before falling beneath the roiling surface.

  14. The attendant waits a short amount of time before fishing the now-boiled animal out with a slotted spoon. He wraps it in a large, waxy Ukala leaf to protect your fingers from the hot morsel, and then hands it to you.
