  8. ------
  9. Its really weird that Al actually doesn't have slate grey skin like vaggie, but actually just looks like he's sick as shit but not dead
  10. Wonder whats the deal with that, or if im just reading too far into things
  11. -
  12. I think there more to it but I can't think of any
  13. -
  14. I don't think he's actually "dead," rather I think he actually never was caught, or "teleported" to hell whilst being held on death row or a jail cell after being caught. It would explain why he looks quite human, compared to sinners like Mimzy, Rosie or Vaggie, who have either paper white or dark grey skin. He just looks like how I do when I have the flu
  15. -
  16. that a good idea, the only way I can think of a demon who "teleported" him to hell is lucifer or one of the ars goetia demons.
  17. -
  18. Alastor really strikes me as a really HP Lovecraft kind of character. Rich as all get out from an aristocratic French Creole colonial dynasty with a boatload of wealth and resources at his disposal. My guess is his parents probably both home schooled him with grade A tutors and sent him to an Ivy League school in New England (probably something ultra snooty school like Harvard or Yale)
  19.
  20. In his studies he would come across ancient forbidden texts from all over the world, from Tibetan tulpa rituals, ancient Babylonian scripture and voodoo magic. There, he most likely attracted the attention of beings far beyond human comprehension, who warped and twisted him, exploiting his underlying neurosis to their benefit to create a slave for them, nothing more than a glorified errand boy. In return for committing certain quite heinous deeds against the population of New Orleans, he would receive the gift of eternal life with power and fame beyond measure. I don't think Alastor ever died biologically, but mentally and spiritually he's dying. Slowly but surely everything that he once was is being scooped out and replaced until he's nothing more than a pinstriped grinning automaton. A glorified tool for eldritch monstrosities beyond time and space
  21. -
  22. god damn, that is something.
  23.
  24. but why does he look like a deer?... he got all his eldritch power, which mean he supposed to look like the von Eldritch family but he didn't.
  25. -
  26. The most likely candidate for that is Furfur, an Ars Goetian demon that takes the appearance of a winged deer/man
  27.
  28. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furfur
  29.
  30. Apparently his shtick is that he's a teacher of secret and divine things. Alastors contact with him could've been initiated years before his arrival in hell. It could be that Alastors search for forbidden truths caused him to stumble across things that no mortal man was supposed to know of. The voodoo I don't know about. It could be that its a part of a wider arsenal of black magic that he has at his disposal, since it doesn't seem to be the sole thing he uses in the pilot to get things done (summoning a gargantuan tentacled monster, strange green energy that emanated from his hand when he offered to shake charlies hand to make a deal, the electronic static used to teleport Husk and a section of his casino to the hotel)
  31. -
  32. >The voodoo I don't know about.
  33.
  34. maybe he found a voodoo book as a kid and got interested in?
  35. -
  36. Could be possible
  37. Don't know if Harvard would have voodoo 101 lying around, but I don't know maybe they do. Could just be that he picked it up, since around the 1910's to 30's there was a big fascination with more "exotic" religions, namely islam and buddhism. I don't think he had any cultural or familial connections to Voodoo, since I don't think it was common for French creole colonists to pick up the practice or have the tradition in the first place.
  38. -
  39. yeah, I can see that.....hm... this gave me a idea.
  40.
  41. how much voodoo stuff that AI knows?
  42. -
  43. Could be anywhere from a master at it to winging it 24/7. My bet is that he treats voodoo like how a carpenter treats a hammer, its an essential tool, but you cant install an electrical outlet or paint a banister with it.
  44.
  45. I also like the idea that rather than him being some evil Dr Facilier type that wants to take over the world and have ultimate power, that hes more in line with being a trickster doing it for the lulz. In life, he was an insane, rich pompous jerk. In hell, hes an insane, rich pompous jerk with OP black magic powers and bitching 1 foot tall deer ears. The only problem is that he isn't actually in control of himself, but for the moment he isn't really aware of that
  46. -
  47. Wow!
  48.
  49. also AI was a hunter when he was still human, maybe he still use guns or have a gun wall with his trophy's or he is a gun nut or something else.
  50. -
  51. I bet he was a gun nut, but only guns from 1933 and before. Its really quite a shame that he gained such a big evil streak, thats why im hoping that he inevitably gets redeemed by the end of the show. If he didn't have his overt jerkass tendencies and murderous impulses he seems like a really fun guy to hang around. Ive lived around crazy people before, they can sometimes offer quite good insight into things and are never really boring to talk to.
  52. -
  53. that sound like fun but how will he get redeemed?... one of the ways I can think he want or get redeemed is he found out that his mom or dad or both are in hell because they decided to show up to the happy hotel.
  54.
  55. Or charlie found out that AI secretly want to go to heaven because he really miss the person who is up there?.
  56. ---
  57. I suggested this in another thread but no one seemed interested. I was thinking of an inverse of the scenario we've suggested where Alastor deliberately sought out power and cut deals with demons to get it.
  58.
  59. Flipping that, maybe he never really sought power, but more or less had it forced on to him. He was somehow more vulnerable to demonic influence or had great potential as some kind of vessel for demonic power, and one or more figures in Hell sought him out and tried to drag him down to their side. Like Son of Sam except the demons were real and not just schizophrenia, he killed people because he had voices in his head constantly whispering to him and telling him to hurt people.
  60. -
  61. Idk if viv would be smart enough, but casting al as a victim of circumstance that could not resist sin would be amazing. Him being the end result of a trajedy would make him (and his subsiquent redemption arch) twice as interesting, too bad he’s just tumblurina bait
  62. -
  63. I don't know what it will be, but I figure at some point there will have to be some kind of "twist" or "big reveal" regarding Alastor. They've set him up as a mysterious figure, so at some point they're going to have to solve the mystery. Maybe we'll learn how he got to be so inexplicably powerful, maybe he'll reveal some ulterior motives, maybe he'll reveal a softer side that Charlie can latch on to, but there's got to be SOMETHING that happens.
  64. -
  65. He can only be the “mysterious bad boy“ for soo long, I just hope the reveal is something more thought provoking than daddy issues. My personal favorite pipe dream is that some time mid series (after a few people are redeemed, and the whole “can sinners even go to heaven” arch is over with) that Al’s big reveal is that he is pure evil, no daddy issues, no bullcrap, he’s just a sadist with underlying psycological issues who really does love killing and eating people and is thus irredemable. Him being irredimable would be an awesome foil to the entire idea of the hotel
  66. -
  67. We've gone over this once before, but yes, the revelation that some people DONT have "something good deep down inside" getting thrust right in Charlie's face would be a great conflict generator. That would be a bitch-slap across the face of pure doubt and insecurity in her cause far beyond her dad thinking she's dumb and her mom not picking up the phone. It would call for some serious reflection and consideration.
  68. -
  69. I don't think Lucy thinks Charlie's dumb
  70. -
  71. Well he's definitely implied to be unsupportive of her redemption project in some way.
  72. -
  73. He probably thinks it's just her being rebellious (ironically) and trying to smear his family name. But maybe on some level he's worried it might actually been possible this whole time
  74. -
  75. >Rebellious
  76.
  77. Do demons go through their own version of the "edgy" phase where they fixate on Heaven and angels? Like the exact inverse of the goth and death metal phases people have?
  78.
  79. I'm imagining "teenage" demons spending a few decades dressed in white robes, running charitable organizations, and donning faux halos just to spite their irate parents and then a few centuries later they look back on it and cringe so hard it causes small pockets of Hell to collapse in on themselves.
  80. -
  81. It could be just a fixation with humans in general - it's like a fixation certain history students develop with autocratic regimes, that comes off as overtly politically charged at the time.
  82. But yeah, I can totally see the idea of Light Metalheads (listening to the metal version of Gregorian choir songs, etc. - could just be Powerwolf, though, the aesthetic can be deceptive, if you don't look at the lyrics).
  83. -
  84. >>31048641
  85.
  86. Most teen’s in their “revellius phases” dont arent actually satanists, they just co-opt the aesthetic because they think it’s cool
  87.
  88. >>31048737
  89. Like this
  90. -
  91. Precisely. To demonic sensibilities Charlie is some annoying kid who never outgrew "that phase"
  92. -
  93. To wit, Charlie's full commitment to the whole redemption idea (which basically flies in the face of everything her father stands for, aside from the whole rebellious aspect) is like learning that your anarchist-wannabe punk kid is actually serious about the whole thing.
  94. If any of you guys ever seen the movie "The Trotsky", it's kinda similar to that, just without Charlie thinking she's the reincarnation of some revolutionary.
  95. -----
  96. It'd be real hilarious to see the 'hardcore' humanfags allowing themselves to be summoned to prove how 'hardcore' they are to their friends, and having exactly zero idea on how to handle the situation.
  97. >"ah yes are you the familiar I requested from Paimon?"
  98. "Uhh, yeah bro totally"
  99. >summoner is buying it hook line and sinker
  100. >the young demon does as best as it can
  101. >blastin fools with magic
  102. >heavy lifting
  103. >doing the dishes
  104. >demon is havin the time of their life experiencing human things
  105. >"the final thing I need you to do today is take this sacrifice to your master"
  106. >Its a baby
  107. >an actual living child
  108. "Man that is fucked up. I'm not doing it."
  109. >poof
  110. >Summoner is too consumed by rage and confusion to notice the police kicking the door in.
  111. -----
  112. Honestly though im kind of done with pure evil characters, they're incredibly boring and one note. I know im biased since Al's my favorite character and I wan't to see him become better, but I think it would really block off a huge amount of storytelling and character exploration. Id like to see the idea teased that hes possibly irredeemable, but have him prove his own worth and show that he has more going on, possibly having him to take a stand against one of his lifelong friends (Rosie comes to mind, as she seems to be a more likely candidate for pure evil)
  113. -
  114. Although him being irremediable would spark off a shitton of development in everyone else, It would come at the expense of his. Thus why im sure they wont do that
  115. -
  116. I suppose that we can go with the "damaged beyond repair" idea - his deeds and mental issue, combined with the health issue from eating human flesh (kuru) essentially destroyed his humanity. There's a thin sliver of a person left in him - a kid who liked to build radios, a young man wanting to imitate Roosevelt's soothing nightly radio broadcasts, and a socialite who just wanted to keep the music going -, but it's all buried under decades worth of decadent bloodlust and sadistic violence, and locked within a damaged mind plagued by childhood traumas and social development issues, held together by a threadbare veil '20s and '30s showman mannerisms.
  117.
  118. Scrape away the supernatural, demonic powers, and he's just a severely damaged human being, who basically acts upon impulse, while the infernal powers that be dictate his circumstances in a favorable direction to keep up the semblance of an overarching agenda (that even he fell for), all for their own amusement or out of simple habituality.
  119.
  120. When seen for what he is, Al's pretty pathetic and pitiful. Just a fancy puppet for someone who got way too much into roleplaying, or is too entertained by their toy to drop them.
  121. Even if those who patron him wanted to see his, Alastor the Radio Demon's "redemption" arc, Alastor the human being is too damaged to act in that role.
  122. -
  123. Its unknown how damaged he could be. Im not doubting you that he has a metric shitton of mental problems, but I don't think that he's an absolute lost cause, theres people out there that make Alastor look plesant to hang around (Co ed killer, Jeffery Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy)
  124.
  125. I also don't know if its true or not, but I don't think him being a cannibal is canon anymore, I think its that Rosie was a cannibal and he was potentially friends with her in life, but I may be mistaken. I think the best shot at getting Al to be a better man would to find the root of the problem and correct it, which I hypothesize will be his mother.
  126.
  127. Something in life must have happend during his formative years that set him on this path and opened him up to dark demonic influence, and I have a feeling it involves her somehow.
  128. -
  129. Toying with the idea of Alastor having been sent to the hotel at someone else's behest, it would be interesting if it was the demons who turned him into a monster in the first place. Like, they themselves are feeling guilty for what they've done to him. A lot of the higher level demons/fallen angels in the AG aren't made out to be PURE evil, its conceivable that whoever "made" Alastor could feel regret for having done so after a while. Maybe they were just angry or desperate when they started in on him and now they're facing the horror of what they made.
  130.
  131. >I'm sorry Alastor
  132. >I'm sorry for everything I've done to you
  133. >You were good once and I stole all of it away
  134.
  135. >I can't stand it
  136. >I can't stand to look at what I've made anymore
  137.
  138. >Go to the princess Alastor
  139.
  140. >I can't fix you Alastor
  141. >I can't undo it all
  142. >But maybe she can
  143.
  144. Meanwhile Alastor just thinks this is yet another sick game from his master. The demon has been raking his mind over the coals for at least a century, this surely must be some new form of inflicting madness on him, and nothing more.
