  1. Magic is typically performed with somatic gestures (such as dance), incantations (like chanting or song), composing runes (carving them into things primarily), channeling mana through a conduit (such as an instrument or a spellbook), or by any combination of the four. Mages expend their mana in order to shape reality in the most efficient way possible. However, study alone will not make one a great mage, there are many types of magic accessed through different means.
  2. Also, some mages choose to specialize in their field, making them particularly better at the type of magic they chose to focus their studies on. (E.G. a druidic mage that focuses on turning into animals, or a divine mage that focuses on healing)

  4. Types of Magic
  5. Arcane
  6. Arcane magic harness through study and research. It utilizes the mana in a multitude of ways and can cast a wide variety of spells. Several of types of arcane magic include conjuration, necromancy, and transmutation.
  7.
  8. Astral
  9. Astral magic is given as a gift to those the stars deem worthy. By aligning mana into constellations, planetary symbols, and other astronomical symbols, magic is invoked by calling upon the power of the stars, planets, and other astronomical bodies. Types of Astral magic include the manipulation of cosmic forces (Astromancy), summoning spirits bound to constellations, and spatial manipulation.
  10.
  11. Chi
  12. Chi is harnessed through rigorous training of the body and mind. By flowing mana through different focal points in one's muscles and bones, it can be refined, solidified and sharpened to weapon-like qualities. Styles of chi-use include the Dove Arts, the Drunken Fist, and the Iron Palm.
  13.
  14. Divine
  15. Divine magic is given as a gift through piety and devoutness. A god, demigod, or powerful demon or angel bestows their followers with their power, and the more favor the worshiper gains, the stronger miracles they can produce. Holy items are used to channel mana for divine magic into converting followers, healing and resurrecting the wounded, and smiting the unholy.
  16.
  17. Druidic
  18. Druidic magic is given as a gift through reverence and respect. Most druids draw energy through the ground and from the sun (like a plant) while others use primal stores of mana located deep within themselves. Druids generally pick an aspect of nature to align themself with, such as communion with spirits (Spiritualism), transforming into and communicating with animals (Animalia), or affecting plant-life (Plantae).
  19.
  20. Time
  21. Time magic is given to those who are destined to affect the timestream. While some arcane and divine spells can mimic the effects of time magic, time magic focuses entirely on altering bits of the timestream at a time. Time mages must never reverse time for any reason, however, within localized areas they can advance time, create stasis, and slow time as well.
  22.
  23. Witchcraft
  24. Witchcraft is harnessed from the moment someone is born infused with mana. Witchcraft is entirely banned in most modern society, and will immediately lead to the witch's execution if they are discovered. This type of magic spawns hemomancers, osteomancers, curse layers, contractors, voodoo, and other wicked variations.
