- [There's a rustling noise as the audio recording starts, with the sound of a stack of papers being tidied against a table drowning out the microphone.]
- "Audio recording start. Begin interview session seventeen dash four of TCCP candidates; initial interview of the subject... 'Hannah.' Interviewer is [REDACTED]. "
- [There's a pause, followed by a masculine-sounding cough.]
- "'Hannah,' is it? Do you have a last name, girlie?"
- [There's no response, and the silence is filled with shifting papers.]
- "You will answer when asked a question."
- [There's another round of silence, in which the interviewer lets out an annoyed sigh.]
- "Your file doesn't say you're mute. Can you speak? It says that you can read-"
- [An oddly sunny, if somewhat hollow, voice interjects.]
- "Of course I can."
- "Then why didn't you respond?"
- "Because you didn't ask another question until just now."
- [A stunned silence follows, in which only a man's heavy breathing and a pencil dancing across paper can be heard.]
- "Smartass. Got it. Subject 'Hannah,' why did you volunteer for the most challenging program the National Security Bureau has to offer?"
- "I was told this is where the best Commanders go, and I'm one of the best."
- "Right. Sure, you say that, but given your mental and physical-"
- "Look at my field scores."
- "What?"
- "If you're going to talk shit, at least do your job and read."
- "How dare you! I-!"
- "'Hi, I'm Mr. [REDACTED], and I lack kindergarten reading skills. Watch me make fun of the deaf girl, hehe~♫'"
- "If you don't stop, I'll-"
- "You'll what, big man?"
- "This interview is over! Guards, take subject 'Hannah' back to her quarters!"
- [There's a moment of silence before the door opens and 'Hannah' is dragged off, an incessant, girlish giggle filling the room as she's escorted away.]
- [...]
- [The door reopens several seconds later, and a pair of dress shoes clack against the tiled floor.]
- "What do you think?"
- "She's got potential. I'll give her that. Set up the next interview."
