- As she spoke, the giant steel pillar shattered like an ice sculpture.
- A storm of thousands, millions, billions of sharp fragments blanketed the width and
- height of the entire hallway, hurtling straight toward Tsuchimikado Motoharu. He
- thought this must be what it would be like to stand inside a giant cannon the moment it
- fired.
- The roar reached his ears a second later.
- (Be in ti—!!)
- Before he could finish his plea...
- ...An obliterating wave of steel rushed through the passage behind him.
- ***
- The magician she’d been fighting had immediately dove behind a pillar, and he’d
- apparently crouched down even farther to minimize the damage he took. But, of course,
- it wasn’t enough to protect him. Tsuchimikado lay facedown now, four scraps of metal
- protruding from his back. Each fragment was only a few centimeters long, but they were
- sharp as knives. To top it off, several chunks of the fallen pillars rested on top of his
- body. These were clumps of concrete as big as melons.
- “I guess it’s over already.”
- ***
- A single bird-shaped origami, covered in blood, had fallen from his hand.
- (I think he was trying to construct a spell as a last resort there...Are you telling me it was
- to destroy the barrier? But why? Why would he do something that futile and not defend
- against my attack?)
- It wasn’t like destroying the barrier would immediately cause Oriana to lose. It was just
- a small piece of insurance.
- Which meant he was aiming for...
- “It looks like...my hand’s got its own spell that can break stuff.”
- The voice startled Oriana. The enemy she thought she’d sent to the grave along with his
- magic name wasn’t dead at all.
- “You don’t look the type...I didn’t know you were into rougher stuff.”
