- Gather round children. I'm here to tell you a story of a tournament long gone by, something we speak of only in stories nowadays: The CGS.
- Oh young'uns, the year was 2007. We still thought CS:Source was kind of ok, Warcraft 3 was fresh in our eyes! Many a trip to Korea had yielded a growing legion of fans, fiending for newfangled electronic sports. Oh! How we wished we could be like them! With their contracts and sponsors, their TV deals and honors.
- We tried hard as we could. We played for keyboards, for headsets and maybe some change. Barely a 250 man event, could we arrange.
- But then! With a flurry and glamour, some glitz and a few Playboy Bunnies, they spun for us a new event: The CGS.
- My oh my, how excited we were. Drafts, teams, jerseys, a full studio! How fancy our getups, how brilliant our setups. CS:Source was, well, a game, DoA was quite lame. The money was flowing, the fans were a-glowing. With nigh half a million at stake, our eyes they did take.
- But after a year, things seemed to lull. They'd made their money, and were starting to mull.
- "Well we've made some cash, and did it quite fast! To go on any more would be quite a bore."
- And so just like that, CGS done fell flat. The scene was stranded, many teams went abandoned. Our wallets deserted, our eyes averted. The damage was done, no one had fun.
