- "Twilight of the Gods"
- Uruz, Ansuz, and Thurisaz - Three boys given life as Machinery Children. They held power beyond what mankind had, but what future did they seek?
- Featured Character(s):
- Egret Uruz: The originator of the Machinery Children. Calm personality.
- Egret Ansuz: One of the Machinery Children. Cunning personality.
- Egret Thurisaz: One of the Machinery Children. Belligerent personality.
- Urus, Ansuz, and Thurisaz - The Machinery Children created by Egret Fehu. What is the future that awaits them?
- Once upon a time, according to Norse mythology, there existed nine realms. Midgard, home of the humans. Nidavellir, home to the Dwarves that created mechanical beasts. Jotunheim, where giants walked. And so forth. At the apex of these realms stood Asgard, where the great god Odin dwelled. These nine realms were all connected by the massive World Tree Yggdrasil, but the giants of Jotunheim sought to destroy Asgard, home of the gods, and conquer all the realms.
- As the struggle between the Earth Federation Military and Neo DC worsened, and the Earth Sphere was reeling from the Inspectors' surprise attacks - There was a faction that plotted to make their existence pivotal to the world at large.
- There was a massive sandstorm on the east coast of Africa, centered right over Kenya. In the skies above, there was a group of mobile weapons on a flight toward the Kisumu region. At the heart of the squadron were three mechs of peculiar design, equipped with magatama-shaped parts all over. One was blue, one was silver, and one was dark brown. They had a number of Lion-type armored modules flying around them, all engraved with the crest of their Neo DC squadron.
- "...We've got signs of movement. They're here. It's the Federation's Kisumu division." The blue mech flying at the front of the squadron sent out a warning to those around it.
- "I've caught it too, Uruz. Bunch of fools, starting something when they know full well they'll die for it." The silver mech's pilot replied over the comm, rolling his mech in a manner clearly intended to show off.
- "Couldn't have said it better myself, Ansuz. They'll get culled sooner or later. Might as well dispose of them all now and not leave any for later." The pilot of the dark brown mech remarked derisively, before accelerating his mech.
- On the ground stood a squadron of 18 EFM armored modules hovering their way through the sea of sand. Once the group confirmed sighting the mech shadows above them, they fanned out and opened fire.
- "You think you can hit me with THAT?" The blue mech easily dodged the ground-based bombardment, then took out its short-range rifle, the folded-up Machinery Rifle, and unfolded it to full barrel length. The very next moment, there were several flashes of explosions where the barrel fired.
- Alongside the blue mech, the silver mech had its Machinery Rifle up and active, firing a one-sided bombardment designed to deliberately drive the enemy units onward.
- *chuckle* "You're slow, too slow! You can hardly blame me for killing you, really..."
- Their death cries were inaudible, but the EFM armored modules were vanishing in black puffs of smoke, one by one.
- "What a bunch of weaklings. I'll exterminate the whole lot of them at once!" The dark brown mech's pilot yelled out, boosting and closing in on an enemy ground squadron.
- "Six Slaves! Destroy this foolish enemy!" The moment he said it, the magatama all over the mech sprung to life and flew through the air like they each had a mind of their own. The magatamas attacked an EFM mech in rapid succession, pierced its armor, bored through its frame, and blasted apart its power reactor.
- The EFM squadron, with its mechs numbering in the teens, was powerless in the face of the three highly animated elites called Bergelmir, like the powerful giant of Norse lore. Truly, it was enough to evoke the image of the chaotic giants from Norse mythology crushing their enemies, the orderly gods, in a very one-sided fashion.
- But... The moment a Lion following the group flew into the attack arc of one of the magatamas fired by the dark brown mech - The magatama pierced through the supposedly friendly mech with no hesitation whatsoever.
- "Tsk... You guys are in my way!" With one gesture from the Bergelmir's manipulator, the Six Slaves started exterminating the Lions around them along with the EFM ground troops. The Neo DC Lions were reduced to scrap without ever fully comprehending that they were under "friendly" fire.
- "That's what happens when you enter my attack range, scum!" Once the last of the explosions died down, the only ones left standing in the area were the three Bergelmirs.
- "...No heat source readings. Ansuz, Thurisaz, mission complete."
- "Roger, Uruz. We didn't even need the GEIM System to deal with these losers. That was too easy."
- "It means that much less trash left on the planet, that's all."
- There were three boys sitting in the three Bergelmir cockpits - Uruz, Ansuz, and Thurisaz. Their faces looked bizarrely similar, as well they should. They were Machinery Children - An artificial superior breed, a new human race, created based on Uruz, the originator.
- Once Uruz's group returned to the Earth Cradle, they were greeted by their creator, Egret Fehu. He believed that as beings superior to existing humans, the Machinery Children were the ones best suited to shoulder the Earth's next era. It was for that reason that he used the Earth Cradle's mother computer Magus to continually research machine cell enhancement and propagation.
- "Good work out there, Uruz. How was it?"
- "The targets were all destroyed... and the Bergelmirs are performing nicely."
- "So nicely, they killed all our allies in the bargain. Isn't that right, Thurisaz?"
- "Hmph, those losers weren't worth saving anyway."
- Fehu's expression grew slightly clouded when he heard Thurisaz's remark.
- "Restrain yourself, Thurisaz. At least until you have more brothers and more Bergelmirs."
- "...Fine, Dad."
- Thurisaz agreed grudgingly, still looking clearly discontent.
- "So... How are the machine cells coming along?" Uruz asked.
- "They've still got issues with propagation and lifespan. They can't demonstrate full functionality without Magus's control." Fehu gave him a basic rundown of the current situation.
- Once Magus's control was perfected, the machine cells' propagation and control would also be complete. That would mean mass generation of Machinery Children and mass production of Bergelmirs.
- "Once the machine cells' propagation is finished, it will mark an end to the era of Man."
- "It sure will, Uruz. And in the world to come, we Machinery Children will run the show."
- "And all the worthless trash will be gone!"
- Uruz, Ansuz, and Thurisaz each voiced their own thoughts of what they expected in the future to come.
- Once upon a time, in their quest to become rulers of the worlds, the giants brought chaos and war to all the realms tied to Yggdrasil. At the end of the fighting, the giants succeeded in felling the gods of Asgard... but all the realms connected to Yggdrasil were destroyed, and the giants with them.
- But the myth concludes with this - "From a world where all is destroyed shall emerge the ones to rule over the next age."
- As strange as it sounded, at this very moment, between the onslaught of the Inspectors and the appearance of the Einst, the Earth Sphere was well on its way to an era deserving of the name Ragnarok, a potentially world-ending time. It was as if the world was acting out the final chapters of the myth.
- The Boosted Children and Advanced Children were born from war, and it was on the back of their mounds of corpses that the Machinery Children were completed. When they enshroud the Earth, will they be the bearers of its next age? Or will they merely be doomed to fall with Ragnarok?
- Magus was the one that held the key, and Magus had never spoken of what lay in store for them all.

- <<Terada Memories>>
- The three Egret brothers (technically there are more than three), with their confusing-as-hell names and hair and outfit colors. Sometimes even I get mixed up over who had what colors. Uruz is the original, but all of the Machinery Children, including the mass production types, don't share the same hair color or voice. They're all designed to have minute differences. (Terada)
