EXT. MITCHELL'S BACK YARD - LATE AFTERNOON

The team is chilling at MITCHELL'S place, BBQ going and drinks for everyone. Some people are in the pool, MITCHELL is tending to the grill, while others are eating; but everyone is listening attentively to DAVE.

DAVE

And by that, I mean that we have to STOP joking around if we want to have a chance. As a team, we already know that we can win this...but we need to decide if we're all in this. Sure we have a lot of holes to fill, but I know you guys are right for--

DYLAN
mouth's 'that's what she said'.

ONE SECOND LATER

SCOTT and ALEX

That's what she said.

MITCHELL

Alright, fuck. We'll get our shit together Dave. We know what we've gotta do, okay Coach?

DAVE
sighs and shrugs.

EXT. MITCHELL'S BACK YARD - TEN ODD MINUTES LATER

MITCHELL, DAVE, JENNI, and ALEX are kicking back at the table finishing up their burgers.

JENNI

We can't coach his relationship! Offering our advice and opinions is completely different from telling him what to do. But, I'm probably more hopeful than you guys are...

ALEX

It doesn't even fucking matter! The only thing there is to do is to move on. Plenty of balls at the range.

MITCHELL
gives ALEX a puzzling stare.

JENNI
phone vibrates. she snatches it and leaves the table and enters the house.

DAVE

I think you need to give her time if you wanna patch things up, Mitch. Decide if you think she's worth getting back and play from there.

DAVE
follows JENNI with his eyes as she leaves the table.

MITCHELL
quietly agrees with DAVE.

ALEX

Is that what you would do if you and Jenni parted ways? Chase after her?

DAVE [hesitatingly]

She's worth too much to let go.

JENNI
returns from the house.

ALEX

If you and Dave broke up, what would you do?

JENNI

What would I DO? Tyler. I could definitely rebound with Tyler. [nudges Dave]

RYAN

WITHOUT HESITATION! No time to think it over in detail in her head, she's moved on!

MITCHELL
chuckles

MAX

Speaking of the kewe, have you talked to him at all today?

JENNI
fiddles with a button on her shirt.

MITCHELL and ALEX
shrug

JENNI

What? O--me? Nope, we didn't talk.

DAVE
gives JENNI a puzzled look, she doesn't notice



EXT. PARK - EVENING

DAVE

You sure? I don't want you spouting answers unless you're sure.

TYLER [sighs]

I didn't see her today.

DAVE

Li--

TYLER

We didn't talk. We didn't chat. What's your problem?

DAVE

You're lying to me.

[short pause]

DAVE

Since when do you lie to me about something so stupid?

TYLER

...She doesn't want you to know. She said she made you a promise.

DAVE
eyes grow

TYLER

No, I mean. Heh. She told you she stopped selling, right?

DAVE

That was a condition, yeah.

TYLER

With my pay coming every two weeks, I'm flush for cash pretty frequently.

DAVE

And she fronts you the cash?

TYLER

Grow up. I pick off her. She collects later.

DAVE
grunts frustratedly


TYLER [trying to lighten the tense atmosphere]

Alright so listen man. I know you're tied down at the moment, but you've got to hear this. So I was at this party the other day, nothing  special, friend of a friend's. So there's like no action, but then this fucking sexy chick walks in and we, like, immediately make eye contact. So I move across the room to introduce myself but before I can, Tom, you remember that little prick from high school?  [Without waiting for an answer] Well, he walks up to her and starts taling about some  random shit... i don't know, anime or whatever, and the chick looks completely  disgusted. I mean, it's written all over her face but Tom doesn't notice because he's  fucking gone. So anyway, I walk over and go "Hey girl, glad you made it. When you  called before you sounded like you might not show. Let me get you a drink." So I take  her by the arm and walk away, leaving Tom standing there like a fucking mongoloid.  Turned out she was real impressed by my heroics and like fifteen minutes later we  were-

DAVE

Are you taking drugs?

TYLER [completely taken aback, then tring to recover]

What? Then? No man, I didn't have any  papers on me. But seriously, she was all over me-

DAVE

I don't mean at the party and we both know I'm not talking about weed.

TYLER

Well, I do dabble in crack now and again. [He laughs]

DAVE [stops walking again]

I'm completely serious man.

TYLER [stops walking as well]

Well, if there's any left over after I sell to the school children,  then-

DAVE [angrily]

Stop with the fucking jokes man. I'm trying to have a serious conversation here  and all you can do is laugh?

TYLER

I-

DAVE

I know what I know, alright? Why even make the jokes at all? Why-

TYLER

Because then it isn't real!

DAVE [Not understanding, cut off in the middle of his tirade]

What?

TYLER [with an air of anger and despair]

Then it isn't real. As long as the jokes go on... It. Isn't.  Real.

DAVE

What do you mean?

TYLER
says nothing, just turns and walks back towards his home.

DAVE
watches him for a moment, starts after him, then stops and walks in the opposite direction.


INT. DAVE'S HOUSE - LATE NIGHT

JENNI
Well, it's a joke! It's not real.

DAVE

Sure but that still happens. Its existence is just as real as governmental corruption or The Sopranos.

JENNI
rolls eyes

[watching Ricky Gervais stand-up or other]

JENNI

How was Tyler?

DAVE [hesitatingly]

Seemed off. You didn't see him at all today?

JENNI

Nope. Why?

DAVE

I just worry about him sometimes...


THIRD SUNDAY

INT. LOCKER ROOM - MIDDAY, AFTER GAME

TYLER

YOU don't need to WORRY about ME!

TYLER
slams the locker and heads to the stalls

ALEX [shouting slightly]
He just cares, Tyler. Don't have to take it so personally.

[short pause]

DAVE

He's sliding..

ALEX
shakes his head.

DAVE [shouting]

And how often do you play that bad when you're hungover?

TYLER
flushes toilet

RYAN

Tyler's silence speaks volumes.

TYLER

What?

DAVE
shrugs

DYLAN

Who wants to head to the casino tonight?

ALEX

Down to hit the cas.

TYLER

Good opportunity to win some funding for your "PUT THE D BACK IN DEANNA CAMPAIGN".

MITCHELL [stifles laughter]

The last time I got lucky at the casino, I just bet on Alex to win like 10 straight.

ALEX

Don't count on me pimping you out again.

DYLAN

I don't really care who comes, I just gotta go. I have a feeling.

MITCHELL [laughing]

There it is!

DYLAN

Listen. Poker is not a game of luck. <poker anecdote involving luck vs skill whatever>

SCOTT

So then what difference does it make that you have 'a feeling'? Shouldn't your 'skill' always take precedence?

ALEX

Building capital for an investment by gambling probably isn't the safest idea.

DYLAN

Bah-hah-hah. This has nothing to do with the condo.

TYLER

Until your dreams crumble because you lost all your money gambling. And then you're nothing but a good PSA storyline.

MITCHELL

Dylan doesn't need your validation.

DYLAN

There's an edge, something internal that I can harness at will. It gives me an advantage.

RYAN

But just like in the real world, Kings may fall to weaker opposition.

MITCHELL

And in the real world, who the hell talks like that?


INT. RYAN'S BASEMENT - EVENING

The credits for BRICK are rolling...

RYAN

It's stylistic. It doesn't have to reflect reality.

MITCHELL

Then what's so special about it? I can hardly understand what they're saying half the time.

RYAN

But it still works.

DYLAN
takes money out of his wallet and throws it on the table

DYLAN

That's for the pizza.

MITCHELL

Jesus, how much money you got there?

DYLAN

I dunno, whatever I made today.

RYAN [calling in from the other room]

Working with Jerry does have its perks.

DYLAN

Listen, tonight...we're big winners. We're lucky this whole day boys. The luck gods don't just take a break at lunch and then call it quits, nope. They're with us till they sleep.

MITCHELL

Alrighty, then. Let's go win.


FOURTH SUNDAY

EXT. RINK - MIDDAY

ALEX

And win again, they did. The throne is now ours for the losing.

DYLAN

This is nothing like your deuces. I still can't even believe that.

ALEX [laughs]

Yeah, the King on the turn should have had me. He played it like an idiot.

DAVE

Either way, winning with two guys missing...sweet. But we gotta sort this stuff out soon.

DYLAN

Played it like an idiot? He didn't play it at all, letting you lead like that. What the fuck is that? Any time you are sitting at the table with the Clan, make the pl--

ALEX [through laughter, repeats]

The "clan".

DAVE

I really haven't done anything...

DAVE
pauses for reflection

DAVE
How is it that Tommy is able to keep his guys in check? TOMMY.

ALEX

We're just playin, man. It's a game.



EXT. TYLER'S YARD - LATE AFTERNOON

DAVE

No. This isn't just a game. It's not OK at all.

TYLER

Sure as hell feels like it, though.

DAVE [mumbles tiredly]

Well, it's not.

TYLER

I just, well. I dunno...I don't wanna talk about it, so what can I do?

DAVE

Just tell me! How can it possibly hurt you? I want to HELP. If you let me in

TYLER [grinning]

You know I'd love to let you in.

DAVE

We'll be able to talk about it, and it could help you. Don't you think?


INT. SHOPPING MALL - EVENING

ALEX

I really don't, actually.

TYLER

OK but I can't - or we can't - just lie about it forever.

ALEX [flustered]

I'm not lying. I just, don't...really know.

TYLER

Then what do you propose we do?

ALEX [pauses]

Those. Get those ones. Sooo sick.

TYLER [sighs]

You sure you don't mind paying?

ALEX

Of course not. Money ain't no object.

TYLER

Heh, I can hardly find my wallet, let alone any money that MAY be inside of it.


INT. DYLAN'S HOUSE - LATE AFTERNOON

DYLAN

MOM! DO YOU KNOW WHERE MY WALLET IS???

MOM

Where'd you put it last?

DYLAN
rolls eyes and takes out phone



EXT. TYLER'S YARD - LATE AFTERNOON

TYLER

I thought..it was in my pocket. I'm so confused..

DAVE

It's probably in your room.

TYLER
hurriedly walks toward the house.

DAVE

Yeah, it might run off if you don't catch it soon.

TYLER
shakes his head and slides the door open

TYLER

Oh.

DAVE

Hm?

TYLER
phone rings

TYLER

It's right here. [grabs wallet, stuffs it into pocket and pulls out phone] Whagwan, killa.

DAVE

Who is it?

TYLER

Hah. No, I haven't. But I just found mine.

DAVE
walks away and sits down

TYLER

Alright, man. Sorry. And good luck eh.

DAVE

What was that about?


FIFTH SUNDAY

EXT. STREET - LATE AFTERNOON

MITCHELL

I was fucking distracted! I spend half my days thinking about Deanna and the other half thinking about how to get her back, cut me some goddamn slack.

DYLAN

No, it wasn't that. That wasn't hesitation of distraction.

MITCHELL

What the hell does that even MEAN?! What the fuck are you saying?

DYLAN
pauses momentarily

MITCHELL

You know all that shit is behind me. You're the only reason that it is for god's sake. You should know that I could NEVER do that to you.

DYLAN

MITCHELL

DYLAN

The last place I had it was in your car.

MITCHELL

AND IT'S NOT IN MY CAR NOW, AND I DON'T FUCKING HAVE IT! I DON'T HAVE TO JUSTIFY MYSELF TO YOU!


INT. DAVE'S HOUSE - EARLY MONDAY MORNING, AROUND 4AM

DAVE

YOU MOST CERTAINLY DO!

JENNI
stunned

DAVE [calming down a bit]

Coming in here at 4AM unnanounced is one thing, but when we just fell asleep together not less than 3 hours ago...and now you're coming back? BACK from WHERE?

JENNI

Wow, calm down, OK? I couldn't sleep so I took a walk, what's the big deal?

DAVE

The big deal

DAVE
pauses for reflection

DAVE

...the big deal is that you weren't there next to me when I woke up.

JENNI
noticably relieved

JENNI [going to hug DAVE]

DAVE
seems almost unconvinced

JENNI

INT. TYLER'S HOUSE - NIGHT

ALEX

Don't tell me that. You gotta tell Dylan. Well, Dylan AND Mitchell.

TYLER
tosses DYLAN'S wallet on his dresser

ALEX

It's not too late to repair things, but if you keep waiting...

TYLER

And what the fuck am I supposed to say to them?

ALEX
loss of words

TYLER

Right. It's not so easy, is it?

ALEX

Right. It's not.

INT. TYLER'S HOUSE - 10 MINS LATER

TYLER

OK, ok, ok. I'm not gonna force you into it, man. Relax.

ALEX

It's not even that anymore. I don't even know if this is right.

TYLER

We said it was, now what's changed?

ALEX
pacing

ALEX

How the hell are you even pressuring me when you can't even talk to Dylan or Mitchell?

TYLER
feels guilty

ALEX

I need to figure all of this out. It's not so bad that I'm WITH a liar, but if I'm lying to myself...

TYLER

So, let's just give it time.

ALEX

It doesn't work like that.


EXT. RINK - MIDDAY

MITCHELL

It can.

DAVE

But it won't. We can't just expect things to be different next week. We need to work things out with ourselves before we'll see any change.

MITCHELL

Yeah, but we all need to make an effort. And right now, that's not happening.



SIXTH SUNDAY

INT. DAVE'S HOUSE - NIGHT

JENNI
enters the house, quickly finds DAVE in his room

JENNI

Hey, you.

DAVE [tosses sweater at JENNI]

Hey, YOU.

JENNI [sighs heavily]

Um, ok. I'm really really sorry...

DAVE

What?

JENNI

I sold some stuff to Tyler today. I know I promised...

DAVE

So you've been lying to me?

JENNI

What? No. I gave him stuff today, that's all, Dave. C'mon!

DAVE

And the "walk" last week? That was...

JENNI

It was a walk for christ sake! This is like the tenth time you bring it up, what the hell is wrong with you? It's not healthy.

DAVE

You think our relationship is "healthy"? Really?

JENNI

I don't know what else to say, Dave. I'm really sorry about it, but if it bothers you this much...what can I do?

DAVE

What DID you do? You can't do anything to fix it.


INT. MITCH AND DYLAN ON PHONE - AFTERNOON

MITCHELL

NO, DUDE. I TOLD YOU TO STOP FUCKING CALLING ME!

DYLAN

Don't crucify me for trying to repair our situation.

MITCHELL

This isn't "a situation". And our RELATIONSHIP is WELL beyond repair.

DYLAN

I can tell her that it's not true.

MITCHELL

ARE YOU SERIOUS? IT'S A BIT LATE FOR THAT DON'T YA THINK?

DYLAN

rings the doorbell

TYLER [shouting]

DAVE
enters without shutting the door

TYLER

WHO IS IT?

DAVE

Where are you?

TYLER

I'M ON THE SHITTER...WHAT'S UP?

DAVE
looks around, sees JENNIs sweater on the couch

DAVE

Nothing. Never mind.

DAVE
grabs the sweater and exits
he pulls out his phone and dials JENNI
goes to voicemail, hangs up

TYLER
exits bathroom

TYLER

What?

TYLER
looks around

TYLER

Where the hell did he go?

TYLER
glances outside, sees DAVE leaving
walks to kitchen where weed is laid on table


EXT. JAMES NORTON PARKING LOT - LATE AFTERNOON

ALEX

I don't even know if we lost or not, heh.

DEANNA

Based on my facebook...you guys lost.

ALEX

Of course.

[awkward silence]

ALEX

So he actually cheated on you?

DEANNA

It's like the worst betrayal! You know? I just...can't believe it.

ALEX

It sucks. Everything is falling apart...
