  8. SECOND SUNDAY
  9.
  10. EXT. MITCHELL'S BACK YARD - LATE AFTERNOON
  11.
  12. The team is chilling at MITCHELL'S place, BBQ going and drinks for everyone. Some people are in the pool, MITCHELL is tending to the grill, while others are eating; but everyone is listening attentively to DAVE.
  13.
  14. DAVE
  15.
  16. And by that, I mean that we have to STOP joking around if we want to have a chance. As a team, we already know that we can win this...but we need to decide if we're all in this. Sure we have a lot of holes to fill, but I know you guys are right for--
  17.
  18. DYLAN
  19. mouth's 'that's what she said'.
  20.
  21. ONE SECOND LATER
  22.
  23. SCOTT and ALEX
  24.
  25. That's what she said.
  26.
  27. MITCHELL
  28.
  29. Alright, fuck. We'll get our shit together Dave. We know what we've gotta do, okay Coach?
  30.
  31. DAVE
  32. sighs and shrugs.
  33.
  34. EXT. MITCHELL'S BACK YARD - TEN ODD MINUTES LATER
  35.
  36. MITCHELL, DAVE, JENNI, and ALEX are kicking back at the table finishing up their burgers.
  37.
  38. JENNI
  39.
  40. We can't coach his relationship! Offering our advice and opinions is completely different from telling him what to do. But, I'm probably more hopeful than you guys are...
  41.
  42. ALEX
  43.
  44. It doesn't even fucking matter! The only thing there is to do is to move on. Plenty of balls at the range.
  45.
  46. MITCHELL
  47. gives ALEX a puzzling stare.
  48.
  49. JENNI
  50. phone vibrates. she snatches it and leaves the table and enters the house.
  51.
  52. DAVE
  53.
  54. I think you need to give her time if you wanna patch things up, Mitch. Decide if you think she's worth getting back and play from there.
  55.
  56. DAVE
  57. follows JENNI with his eyes as she leaves the table.
  58.
  59. MITCHELL
  60. quietly agrees with DAVE.
  61.
  62. ALEX
  63.
  64. Is that what you would do if you and Jenni parted ways? Chase after her?
  65.
  66. DAVE [hesitatingly]
  67.
  68. She's worth too much to let go.
  69.
  70. JENNI
  71. returns from the house.
  72.
  73. ALEX
  74.
  75. If you and Dave broke up, what would you do?
  76.
  77. JENNI
  78.
  79. What would I DO? Tyler. I could definitely rebound with Tyler. [nudges Dave]
  80.
  81. RYAN
  82.
  83. WITHOUT HESITATION! No time to think it over in detail in her head, she's moved on!
  84.
  85. MITCHELL
  86. chuckles
  87.
  88. MAX
  89.
  90. Speaking of the kewe, have you talked to him at all today?
  91.
  92. JENNI
  93. fiddles with a button on her shirt.
  94.
  95. MITCHELL and ALEX
  96. shrug
  97.
  98. JENNI
  99.
  100. What? O--me? Nope, we didn't talk.
  101.
  102. DAVE
  103. gives JENNI a puzzled look, she doesn't notice
  104.
  105.
  106.
  107. EXT. PARK - EVENING
  108.
  109. DAVE
  110.
  111. You sure? I don't want you spouting answers unless you're sure.
  112.
  113. TYLER [sighs]
  114.
  115. I didn't see her today.
  116.
  117. DAVE
  118.
  119. Li--
  120.
  121. TYLER
  122.
  123. We didn't talk. We didn't chat. What's your problem?
  124.
  125. DAVE
  126.
  127. You're lying to me.
  128.
  129. [short pause]
  130.
  131. DAVE
  132.
  133. Since when do you lie to me about something so stupid?
  134.
  135. TYLER
  136.
  137. ...She doesn't want you to know. She said she made you a promise.
  138.
  139. DAVE
  140. eyes grow
  141.
  142. TYLER
  143.
  144. No, I mean. Heh. She told you she stopped selling, right?
  145.
  146. DAVE
  147.
  148. That was a condition, yeah.
  149.
  150. TYLER
  151.
  152. With my pay coming every two weeks, I'm flush for cash pretty frequently.
  153.
  154. DAVE
  155.
  156. And she fronts you the cash?
  157.
  158. TYLER
  159.
  160. Grow up. I pick off her. She collects later.
  161.
  162. DAVE
  163. grunts frustratedly
  164.
  165.
  166. TYLER [trying to lighten the tense atmosphere]
  167.
  168. Alright so listen man. I know you're tied down at the moment, but you've got to hear this. So I was at this party the other day, nothing special, friend of a friend's. So there's like no action, but then this fucking sexy chick walks in and we, like, immediately make eye contact. So I move across the room to introduce myself but before I can, Tom, you remember that little prick from high school? [Without waiting for an answer] Well, he walks up to her and starts taling about some random shit... i don't know, anime or whatever, and the chick looks completely disgusted. I mean, it's written all over her face but Tom doesn't notice because he's fucking gone. So anyway, I walk over and go "Hey girl, glad you made it. When you called before you sounded like you might not show. Let me get you a drink." So I take her by the arm and walk away, leaving Tom standing there like a fucking mongoloid. Turned out she was real impressed by my heroics and like fifteen minutes later we were-
  169.
  170. DAVE
  171.
  172. Are you taking drugs?
  173.
  174. TYLER [completely taken aback, then tring to recover]
  175.
  176. What? Then? No man, I didn't have any papers on me. But seriously, she was all over me-
  177.
  178. DAVE
  179.
  180. I don't mean at the party and we both know I'm not talking about weed.
  181.
  182. TYLER
  183.
  184. Well, I do dabble in crack now and again. [He laughs]
  185.
  186. DAVE [stops walking again]
  187.
  188. I'm completely serious man.
  189.
  190. TYLER [stops walking as well]
  191.
  192. Well, if there's any left over after I sell to the school children, then-
  193.
  194. DAVE [angrily]
  195.
  196. Stop with the fucking jokes man. I'm trying to have a serious conversation here and all you can do is laugh?
  197.
  198. TYLER
  199.
  200. I-
  201.
  202. DAVE
  203.
  204. I know what I know, alright? Why even make the jokes at all? Why-
  205.
  206. TYLER
  207.
  208. Because then it isn't real!
  209.
  210. DAVE [Not understanding, cut off in the middle of his tirade]
  211.
  212. What?
  213.
  214. TYLER [with an air of anger and despair]
  215.
  216. Then it isn't real. As long as the jokes go on... It. Isn't. Real.
  217.
  218. DAVE
  219.
  220. What do you mean?
  221.
  222. TYLER
  223. says nothing, just turns and walks back towards his home.
  224.
  225. DAVE
  226. watches him for a moment, starts after him, then stops and walks in the opposite direction.
  227.
  228.
  229. INT. DAVE'S HOUSE - LATE NIGHT
  230.
  231. JENNI
  232. Well, it's a joke! It's not real.
  233.
  234. DAVE
  235.
  236. Sure but that still happens. Its existence is just as real as governmental corruption or The Sopranos.
  237.
  238. JENNI
  239. rolls eyes
  240.
  241. [watching Ricky Gervais stand-up or other]
  242.
  243. JENNI
  244.
  245. How was Tyler?
  246.
  247. DAVE [hesitatingly]
  248.
  249. Seemed off. You didn't see him at all today?
  250.
  251. JENNI
  252.
  253. Nope. Why?
  254.
  255. DAVE
  256.
  257. I just worry about him sometimes...
  258.
  259.
  260. THIRD SUNDAY
  261.
  262. INT. LOCKER ROOM - MIDDAY, AFTER GAME
  263.
  264. TYLER
  265.
  266. YOU don't need to WORRY about ME!
  267.
  268. TYLER
  269. slams the locker and heads to the stalls
  270.
  271. ALEX [shouting slightly]
  272. He just cares, Tyler. Don't have to take it so personally.
  273.
  274. [short pause]
  275.
  276. DAVE
  277.
  278. He's sliding..
  279.
  280. ALEX
  281. shakes his head.
  282.
  283. DAVE [shouting]
  284.
  285. And how often do you play that bad when you're hungover?
  286.
  287. TYLER
  288. flushes toilet
  289.
  290. RYAN
  291.
  292. Tyler's silence speaks volumes.
  293.
  294. TYLER
  295.
  296. What?
  297.
  298. DAVE
  299. shrugs
  300.
  301. DYLAN
  302.
  303. Who wants to head to the casino tonight?
  304.
  305. ALEX
  306.
  307. Down to hit the cas.
  308.
  309. TYLER
  310.
  311. Good opportunity to win some funding for your "PUT THE D BACK IN DEANNA CAMPAIGN".
  312.
  313. MITCHELL [stifles laughter]
  314.
  315. The last time I got lucky at the casino, I just bet on Alex to win like 10 straight.
  316.
  317. ALEX
  318.
  319. Don't count on me pimping you out again.
  320.
  321. DYLAN
  322.
  323. I don't really care who comes, I just gotta go. I have a feeling.
  324.
  325. MITCHELL [laughing]
  326.
  327. There it is!
  328.
  329. DYLAN
  330.
  331. Listen. Poker is not a game of luck. <poker anecdote involving luck vs skill whatever>
  332.
  333. SCOTT
  334.
  335. So then what difference does it make that you have 'a feeling'? Shouldn't your 'skill' always take precedence?
  336.
  337. ALEX
  338.
  339. Building capital for an investment by gambling probably isn't the safest idea.
  340.
  341. DYLAN
  342.
  343. Bah-hah-hah. This has nothing to do with the condo.
  344.
  345. TYLER
  346.
  347. Until your dreams crumble because you lost all your money gambling. And then you're nothing but a good PSA storyline.
  348.
  349. MITCHELL
  350.
  351. Dylan doesn't need your validation.
  352.
  353. DYLAN
  354.
  355. There's an edge, something internal that I can harness at will. It gives me an advantage.
  356.
  357. RYAN
  358.
  359. But just like in the real world, Kings may fall to weaker opposition.
  360.
  361. MITCHELL
  362.
  363. And in the real world, who the hell talks like that?
  364.
  365.
  366. INT. RYAN'S BASEMENT - EVENING
  367.
  368. The credits for BRICK are rolling...
  369.
  370. RYAN
  371.
  372. It's stylistic. It doesn't have to reflect reality.
  373.
  374. MITCHELL
  375.
  376. Then what's so special about it? I can hardly understand what they're saying half the time.
  377.
  378. RYAN
  379.
  380. But it still works.
  381.
  382. DYLAN
  383. takes money out of his wallet and throws it on the table
  384.
  385. DYLAN
  386.
  387. That's for the pizza.
  388.
  389. MITCHELL
  390.
  391. Jesus, how much money you got there?
  392.
  393. DYLAN
  394.
  395. I dunno, whatever I made today.
  396.
  397. RYAN [calling in from the other room]
  398.
  399. Working with Jerry does have its perks.
  400.
  401. DYLAN
  402.
  403. Listen, tonight...we're big winners. We're lucky this whole day boys. The luck gods don't just take a break at lunch and then call it quits, nope. They're with us till they sleep.
  404.
  405. MITCHELL
  406.
  407. Alrighty, then. Let's go win.
  408.
  409.
  410. FOURTH SUNDAY
  411.
  412. EXT. RINK - MIDDAY
  413.
  414. ALEX
  415.
  416. And win again, they did. The throne is now ours for the losing.
  417.
  418. DYLAN
  419.
  420. This is nothing like your deuces. I still can't even believe that.
  421.
  422. ALEX [laughs]
  423.
  424. Yeah, the King on the turn should have had me. He played it like an idiot.
  425.
  426. DAVE
  427.
  428. Either way, winning with two guys missing...sweet. But we gotta sort this stuff out soon.
  429.
  430. DYLAN
  431.
  432. Played it like an idiot? He didn't play it at all, letting you lead like that. What the fuck is that? Any time you are sitting at the table with the Clan, make the pl--
  433.
  434. ALEX [through laughter, repeats]
  435.
  436. The "clan".
  437.
  438. DAVE
  439.
  440. I really haven't done anything...
  441.
  442. DAVE
  443. pauses for reflection
  444.
  445. DAVE
  446. How is it that Tommy is able to keep his guys in check? TOMMY.
  447.
  448. ALEX
  449.
  450. We're just playin, man. It's a game.
  451.
  452.
  453.
  454. EXT. TYLER'S YARD - LATE AFTERNOON
  455.
  456. DAVE
  457.
  458. No. This isn't just a game. It's not OK at all.
  459.
  460. TYLER
  461.
  462. Sure as hell feels like it, though.
  463.
  464. DAVE [mumbles tiredly]
  465.
  466. Well, it's not.
  467.
  468. TYLER
  469.
  470. I just, well. I dunno...I don't wanna talk about it, so what can I do?
  471.
  472. DAVE
  473.
  474. Just tell me! How can it possibly hurt you? I want to HELP. If you let me in
  475.
  476. TYLER [grinning]
  477.
  478. You know I'd love to let you in.
  479.
  480. DAVE
  481.
  482. We'll be able to talk about it, and it could help you. Don't you think?
  483.
  484.
  485. INT. SHOPPING MALL - EVENING
  486.
  487. ALEX
  488.
  489. I really don't, actually.
  490.
  491. TYLER
  492.
  493. OK but I can't - or we can't - just lie about it forever.
  494.
  495. ALEX [flustered]
  496.
  497. I'm not lying. I just, don't...really know.
  498.
  499. TYLER
  500.
  501. Then what do you propose we do?
  502.
  503. ALEX [pauses]
  504.
  505. Those. Get those ones. Sooo sick.
  506.
  507. TYLER [sighs]
  508.
  509. You sure you don't mind paying?
  510.
  511. ALEX
  512.
  513. Of course not. Money ain't no object.
  514.
  515. TYLER
  516.
  517. Heh, I can hardly find my wallet, let alone any money that MAY be inside of it.
  518.
  519.
  520. INT. DYLAN'S HOUSE - LATE AFTERNOON
  521.
  522. DYLAN
  523.
  524. MOM! DO YOU KNOW WHERE MY WALLET IS???
  525.
  526. MOM
  527.
  528. Where'd you put it last?
  529.
  530. DYLAN
  531. rolls eyes and takes out phone
  532.
  533.
  534.
  535. EXT. TYLER'S YARD - LATE AFTERNOON
  536.
  537. TYLER
  538.
  539. I thought..it was in my pocket. I'm so confused..
  540.
  541. DAVE
  542.
  543. It's probably in your room.
  544.
  545. TYLER
  546. hurriedly walks toward the house.
  547.
  548. DAVE
  549.
  550. Yeah, it might run off if you don't catch it soon.
  551.
  552. TYLER
  553. shakes his head and slides the door open
  554.
  555. TYLER
  556.
  557. Oh.
  558.
  559. DAVE
  560.
  561. Hm?
  562.
  563. TYLER
  564. phone rings
  565.
  566. TYLER
  567.
  568. It's right here. [grabs wallet, stuffs it into pocket and pulls out phone] Whagwan, killa.
  569.
  570. DAVE
  571.
  572. Who is it?
  573.
  574. TYLER
  575.
  576. Hah. No, I haven't. But I just found mine.
  577.
  578. DAVE
  579. walks away and sits down
  580.
  581. TYLER
  582.
  583. Alright, man. Sorry. And good luck eh.
  584.
  585. DAVE
  586.
  587. What was that about?
  588.
  589.
  590. FIFTH SUNDAY
  591.
  592. EXT. STREET - LATE AFTERNOON
  593.
  594. MITCHELL
  595.
  596. I was fucking distracted! I spend half my days thinking about Deanna and the other half thinking about how to get her back, cut me some goddamn slack.
  597.
  598. DYLAN
  599.
  600. No, it wasn't that. That wasn't hesitation of distraction.
  601.
  602. MITCHELL
  603.
  604. What the hell does that even MEAN?! What the fuck are you saying?
  605.
  606. DYLAN
  607. pauses momentarily
  608.
  609. MITCHELL
  610.
  611. You know all that shit is behind me. You're the only reason that it is for god's sake. You should know that I could NEVER do that to you.
  612.
  613. DYLAN
  614. thinking
  615.
  616. MITCHELL
  617.
  618. For fucks sake, then it doesn't matter!
  619.
  620. DYLAN
  621.
  622. The last place I had it was in your car.
  623.
  624. MITCHELL
  625.
  626. AND IT'S NOT IN MY CAR NOW, AND I DON'T FUCKING HAVE IT! I DON'T HAVE TO JUSTIFY MYSELF TO YOU!
  627.
