  13. Q: RNG manipulation? What is that, and who discovered it?
  14.
  15. A: RNG manipulation in Forbidden Memories is basically doing certain actions on certain frames in order to achieve a certain desired outcome. In our case, we are starting a new game on a certain frame to get a certain favorable starter deck, and then are starting a duel against Heishin 1 on a certain frame in order to win Meteor B. Dragon. Those who discovered this will be credited at the top portion of this pastebin.

  17.
  18. Q: Why are you sitting at the main menu for so long?
  19.
  20. A: I am waiting a certain number of frames before I create a new game. By doing waiting this specific amount of time, I will get a starter deck that is incredibly good and can be used to further manipulate the game later.
  21.
  22.
  23. Q: But there is a lot more time on that timer than [deckframe]/60. Why is that?
  24.
  25. A: I added extra time so that I could start the timer from when I hit the reset button on my console rather than when the game begins counting frames. This makes it easier for me to start the timer at the right time.
  26.
  27.
  28. Q: Why do you need this specific deck?
  29.
  30. A: Although the deck has an ungodly dragon and thunder count, the bigger reason I need it is because it is the only deck that has currently been researched enough to know how to manipulate other things during the run, like winning MBD.
  31.
  32.
  33. Q: Now your big timer is showing a different amount of time and you are starting a duel over and over again. Whaa?
  34.
  35. A: By starting a duel against Heishin 1 on a specific frame (frame 468, 470, or 472), I can win Meteor B. Dragon from him. Basically, every frame that goes by, a different duel will happen if I enter the duel on that frame. By entering the duel on those frames, I know exactly what I will draw, what Heishin will play, and what I can win. By knowing this, I can play the duel in a very specific manner in order to win Meteor B. Dragon.
  36.
  37.
  38. Q: Why do you want to win Meteor B. Dragon so badly?
  39.
  40. A: By winning three MBD, there is a large chance I can beat the game without any added help. Winning three so early in the game allows me to have a high chance to beat the game without any further farming.
  41.
  42.
  43. Q: Why are you watching 3D duels?
  44.
  45. A: It is part of the manipulation. Watching 3D duels alters the drop I get at the end. By watching them, I am changing my drop to what I want it to be. There are more technical reasons why that I cannot properly explain, so if you're interested contact one of the people listed at the top of this PasteBin.
  46.
  47. Q: What category is this?
  48.
  49. A: This is still being determined. However, the general consensus is that runs with RNG manipulation are going to be considered a different category than those that do not use it. For that reason, there is a separate world record between the two categories. At the time of writing this, TheRedhotbr holds the world record for doing a run with RNG manipulation, and A3r1uS holds the world record for doing a run without it. Once the community decides on specifics, this will be made official on the speedrun.com leaderboards.
