  1. The Venetian Chronicles: Seon-hwa Song
  2.
  3. Yuuko: (fumbling with the camera before mounting it on a tripod. Before adjusting the focus on the camera and Clearing her throat) this is Council envoy Yuuko Shirakawa, agent of the dragon, and historian for the archives in Dublin Ireland. As part of the Chronicles initiative, I am interviewing active agents from the 21st century so that future generations may better understand the context in which events are taking place. This session is being recorded on () in Greenfield Ireland, at the Green residence.
  4. Yuuko: Could you please state your full name, date of birth, affiliation and rank.
  5. Seon-hwa Song: My name is Seon-hwa Song, I was born on October 3, 1991, I’m a Templar exorcist, field agent, and liaison.
  6. Yukko: Can you tell us about your family?
  7. Seon-hwa Song: I have a mother, an older sister, and a younger sister. All three of them are mudang - Korean shamanesses. My father passed last year.
  8. Yuuko: Where did you grow up?
  9. Seon-hwa Song: I grew up on a farm in rural North Chungcheong province.
  10. Yuuko: How would you describe your childhood?
  11. Seon-hwa Song: My childhood was… uh… well, it wasn’t bad. For the most part, I grew up in a pretty happy household. We helped on the farm, learned about the spirits from Mom, and Dad taught me how to cook. It got less idyllic when I was 11 and started sort of… getting overloaded with energy. We thought it was just an unusual manifestation of the spiritual awakening that happens to mudang around that time. It was pretty rough on the whole family emotionally, so things got tense as time went on, and I eventually felt the need to leave to study in the city.
  12. Yuuko: How were you first introduced to the secret world?
  13. Seon-hwa Song: Um… Well, I’d always known about stuff like spirits and interacting with them and undead and whatnot, but I wasn’t formally introduced to the societies and the wider world until I had a particularly bad magic surge and the Templars showed up on my doorstep.
  14. Yuuko: Did you have any contact (either directly or indirectly) with your society before your powers awakened?
  15. Seon-hwa Song: Yes, actually. It turned out someone very close to me was a Templar, though I can’t talk about it much for the sake of his safety.
  16. Yuuko: Can you tell us what a normal day looks like for you?
  17. Seon-hwa Song: There isn’t really a normal day for me. Sometimes I go and work at my bar in Seoul, sometimes I’m called in for consulting or field work, sometimes I take a break and stay in and play video games and hang out with my roommate. It all depends on what’s needed.
  18. Yuuko: Could you tell us a little about the bar you own? Do you have any stories?
  19. Seon-hwa Song: It’s at the top of a high rise in Gangnam, a partly open-air rooftop bar. I saw a few of them before I graduated in other places, and it wasn’t a big thing in Seoul yet. It’s in the reasonably high-end range, but we try to cater to a variety of clientele, as you might imagine. More and more, since word has gotten out, it’s become oriented toward people involved in the secret world in one way or another, and is a useful spot for me as a liaison to the Dragon.
  20. As for stories… Well, more than once I’ve had someone declare that I was clearly too young to be working at the bar that I own, including people applying for jobs. One woman really went nuts over the idea and actually called the police. Now that was a fun conversation.
  21. Yuuko: Has your work for your society ever brought you into contact with anyone who would be considered historically significant (world leaders, celebrities, scientist and engineers.)
  22. Seon-hwa Song: Well… I found out that I’m sort of related to one recently, but I don’t want to go too far into that before I talk to the individual in question. And one of my friends is a scientist doing really cool stuff with AI.
  23. Yuuko: Have you ever seen an event reported in the media and known that it was a lie and if so can you tell us what really happened?
  24. Seon-hwa Song: Quite a few, though most of it is stuff I wasn’t personally involved in.
  25. Yuuko: What was the last event you can remember that shook both the secret world and the mundane equally?
  26. Seon-hwa Song: Oh gosh… Hmm… I don’t remember right off hand. There’s usually some balance discrepancy for whatever reason in impact. Either the societies don’t consider something their problem, or it is their problem and they make sure the problem isn’t widely known by ordinary humans.
  27. Yuuko: Who is worse when they are drunk, humans or cryptids?
  28. Seon-hwa Song: Honestly, they’re about equal. Some of the cryptids can cause more damage, but others can’t get drunk at all. You really have to separate it by cryptid types. Humans with some ingenuity can cause almost as many problems.
  29. Yuuko: Have you ever participated in an event considered historically important to the mundane world and if so was it on behalf of your society
  30. Seon-hwa Song: Yes… It was before I joined my society. Ages before, if you will.
  31. Yuuko: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us agent Song.
  32. Seon-hwa Song: Of course! Any time.
