- The number of chlorine (Cl) atoms is found by subtracting the sum of fluorine, bromide, and hydrogen atoms
- from the total number of atoms that can be connected to the carbon atoms: 4 for methane derivatives (CH4), 6
- for ethane derivatives (C2H6), etc.
