- They have journeyed many miles beyond the gate of the coast, Mormo the swordsman, Lang the elven archer, and Dylok the captain of the guard. Beyond the great gates that mark the coastal region is the plains region. A land of sparse trees and open fields and grasses home to many monsters; but monsters weaker than those of the coast. To the south beyond a canyon and mountain like cliffs and rope bridges is the forest land, home of the elves and monsters stronger than the plains but weaker than the coast. Mormo checks the map, they are looking for an oracle. The oracle of the coast already told them she could not find where this mysterious monster took the princess; so they must find a greater oracle.
- "Alright," says Mormo, "The city oracle is no better than the coast line oracle, what we need is one of the Oracle Weavers or the Fairy Queen..."
- "Fairy Queen isn't an option," says Lang, "unless we want to call in a favor with Sarn."
- "Not happening," says Mormo remembering how the Fairy Queen of the hidden fountain deep in the woods black listed him after he tried to kidnap the Fairy P"rincess (a type of Mystic Monster) rather than return her to the Fairy Queen.
- "So that leaves us with an Oracle Weaver," says Mormo, "which there are two, that desert spider one waaaay over here in the Mirage region of the desert; or closer is that creepy one in the graveyard region."
- "We have the perfect weapons and charms to coax right through to her shack," says Lang.
- "Graveyard it is then," says Mormo.
- "Look alive!" shouts Dylok brandishing his sword as the grass ruffles and blue sparks indicate a monster manifesting right in front of them.
- "Random encounter bullshit," growls Mormo unsheathing his sword, "this is why I hate the Novician plains."
- From the blue light appears a creature resembling a large crocodile with a long neck and tiny bat wings on its back.
- "A Crocodrake," says L:ang looking at a holographic display in the palm of his hands, "Mid-tier strength, Mini-Boss class...how."
- He leaps back as do Mormo and Dylok as the Crocodrake spews out a torrent of flame.
- "Shining Slash!" shouts Mormo swinging his sword sending a blue sparkling energy that cleaves the dragon's head off in one sweep, the entire thing vanishing in blue flames.
- "Novician mini-boss," scoffs Mormo.
- "Above us," says Dylok pointing his sword.
- "What in the world?" says Mormo seeing the spiraling black cloud with a purple sigil inside it. They leap out of the way as a ten foot tall bulky black armored figure lands with a loud *thud*. It slowly turns while carrying a massive sword, black tattered cloth billowing off its armor. Its helmet is large and sports a pair of bull horns.
- It lets out a low growl as it faces them, a growl coming from non-existent lips, and glaring down at them through red pink pricks of light in empty eye sockets.
- "A Death Knight," whispers Lang, "h...how is there a Death Knight here?"
- "Shining Slash!" shouts Mormo but the Death Knight raises a massive black shield that blocks it.
- "Boss class," says Lang, "and a higher end one, its the same power as the Dreadful Jolly Rodger."
- "Seriously?" asks Mormo, "in the middle of a field...at random?"
- "I guess!" shouts Lang running to the sword side of the giant monster quickly drawing and firing holy bolt arrows at the thing, they hit and it growls but it also is only taking basic damage from them.
- It raises its sword and brings it down sending a spiraling wheel of darkness across the ground, Mormo dodges by rolling to the side and charges the Death Knight stabbing it in the gut, "Holy Light!" he shouts as his sword glows with an intense light, blasting the Death Knight from within. It howls in pain, however it is also managing to smash its shield into Mormo's back a few times before it vanishes in blue flames.
- "Ah crap," says Mormo, "I need some health potions."
- "This shouldn't have been possible," says Lang looking at his hologram, "Death Knights only appear in deep crypts, summoned by Lich Kings, drawn in by undead Grand Bosses, or special summons by Necromancer classes. First a mini-boss shows up right in the middle of a field where the biggest monsters should be Grass Snakes, and now a Death Knight?"
