Section 4 Rebels



On their way, Atalante questioned a rebel soldier about the situation of the village they are heading towards.

The rebel soldier answered that the situation there was not favorable and that the amount of plundering that happened there have increased.

The reason was assumed to be the increasing radicality of the Oprichniki. There were rumors that a village that caused a rebellion was completely burned down.

Atalante:
"It can't be helped... in the first place, it was a village that exists as a decoy. However, for them to move their dwellings to this place, quite a brave decision. Seventy, no, eighty percent of them probably died."

The soldier replied that compared to being massacred by the Oprichniki, having two-tenth of them surviving is better.

Patsy:
"...hey, you guys. Don't you guys feel guilty even a bit?"

The soldier didn't seem to understand the meaning of Patsy's question, so he asked again.

Patsy:
"I'm asking if you don't feel sorry towards the villages that got sacrificed."

The soldier asked if Patsy was someone who was born in one of those villages, then he added that he too was from one of such village. Patsy ignored his comment and repeated his question strongly.

Soldier:
"...I felt it. Nothing more than that though.
After all, we are fighting against Ivan the Terrible.
We are fighting against the immortal Tsar who has lived for 450 years.
There were countless villages, sinless Yagas, and children who were sacrificed. But, it couldn't be helped, right?"

Atalante reacted a bit hearing the soldier's words, but did not say anything.


Soldier:
"We are definitely going to fall to hell.
We will fall, and we will be seen through by The Oddity of Demonic Eyes
But, at the very least, I must defeat Ivan the Terrible before my children grow old.
Now that I've joined with boss, Atalante-sama's rebel army it's my best chance for that. We will raise a revolution in Russia!"

Avicebron
"Talking about revolution is fine and all, but before that, we must deal with the demonic beasts."


Atalante immediately commanded the soldiers to ready their weapons. Then Atalante asked for Ritsuka and Avicebron to show their power, saying that people like them wouldn't be defeated against the likes of demonic beasts.

Avicebron clicked his fingers, summoning the golems as he requested for commands.

After the battle, Patsy reported to Avicebron that they've finished skinning the demonic beats. Avicebron thanked him and told him to hand them to the carrier golems.

Then Avicebron asked Atalante whether they kept the ingredients from the demonic beasts in their base. He asked if Atalante would be willing to give some of that to him.

Atalante answered that they do keep some amounts of the ingredients and that they'd be willing to give them as rewards depending on Avicebron and Ritsuka's achievements.

Atalante then mention that they'll reach the hidden tunnel soon and that the fort of their rebel army lies beyond the hidden tunnel. Atalante then asked if Mashu and Ritsuka are alright, as they are not Yagas or Servants.

Mashu answered that they are alright and that Ritsuka also possess a Mystic Code suited for polar regions use.

Ritsuka thanked Atalante for worrying about them.


Atalante:
"No, I just thought it was strange as normal humans shouldn't be able to survive in this condition.
I am, after all, a heretic Servant that was manifested by another side of the actual Heroic Spirit.
Please don't think that I have such a respectable way of thoughts."


Atalante then mentioned that there were demonic beasts inside the tunnel, but they are weaklings who escaped into the tunnels, so they can ignore and break through them.

Entering the tunnel, Mashu mentioned that the connection to the Shadow Border was cut. Atalante assumed it was because of the tunnel and that it should return once they passed through it.

Mashu commented that while there were demonic beasts around, there were no normal animals.

Patsy answered that the normal animals were already extinct since long ago.

Mashu was surprised but Avicebron understood, saying that it is impossible for animals to survive in this kind of extreme conditions.

A Yaga soldier mentioned that cats or dogs did exist 500 years ago.


Atalante:
"...cat. A cat, huh? Because I was summoned in this form, my memories of dog and cat is a bit hazy..."


Mashu commented that Fou seemed to be alright.

One of the Yaga then stopped moving, saying that he smelt the scent of blood. It appears that something is eating the demonic beasts, and it is something that is quite big.

Atalante commanded the non-Servants to step back, she recognized the scent. it was the scent of a demonic boar.

The demonic boar appeared before them and Atalante told Ritsuka that they should kill it quickly.

After defeating the demonic boar, Atalante told them to take as much meat as they can. Avicebron then mentioned that while they are at it, they should also secure the soil.

Avicebron explained that because the demonic beasts lived there, the soil mutated and that it could be used to create good golems.

Patsy commented that it sounded like farming. Aviceborn corrected him that it was closer to pottery instead.

One of the soldier gratefully collected some of the meat, saying that his children won't starve with the meat.

Ritsuka questioned him about his kids, the soldier explained that the rebel army had many people who escaped with their family from their burning villages. He was one of those people.

Mashu asked if the Oprichniki were the ones who burned the village and the soldier confirmed it.

The soldier stated that he was one of the luckier ones as his family all managed to survive as there were children who saw their family murdered in front of their eyes.

Atalante then spoke up, saying that they have no time for idle talk and that they should return to their fort.

After they passed through the hidden tunnel, they reached the rebel army's fort.

Avicebron reported that he couldn't confirm anyone who might have followed their trails. Just in case, he will install some hidden observer golems around.

Ritsuka thanked Avicebron Then they received a connection from the Shadow Border and Holmes confirmed the recovery of the connection.

Goldorf demanded reports from them. Mashu then reported that they, including Avicebron and Patsy have traveled alongside the rebel army and reached the secret base of the rebel army.

There they plan to rebuild their momentum and request materials and tools that can be used to repair the Shadow Border, Of course, if possible they would also ask for food supplies, Mashu added.

Da Vinci commented that while she is not too familiar with the intricates of castle or fortress, she could see it was a well done one. Because there were cliffs around them, it is difficult to attack and a ballista is installed on top of the gate.

In addition, as a way to deal with Oprichniki riders, they installed barricades. To destroy the castle, the enemy must be prepared to receive a lot of damage. Da Vinci commented that it the name Rebel Army is not an exaggeration.

Atalante ordered the soldiers to open the gate and the rebel army did so, recognizing her. One of them asked about the increase of entourage and Atalante said that she'd explain about Ritsuka and the rest later.

Atalante told the people in the base that they have secured enough meat to be distributed for everyone and the people cheered.

Atalante told them to gather everyone once they are done eating and that they will hold a meeting. Atalante told Ritsuka to wait until then.

Ritsuka then spoke up, saying that they would like to request food as well. At first Atalante seemed surprised since normal humans do not eat demonic beasts' meat, then she assumed that we have skilled cooks with us that will solve that problem.

Atalante agreed to share 3 kg of the meat as they would simply go bad if left alone. Mashu commmented that with this they would be able to give a good report.

After that the Chaldea group waited quietly until the meeting begins.
