- -----------------
- PRO
- + Luke, Kylo, Rey, Snoke stuff was pretty much all great
- + I liked the ground battle parts
- + The premise of the doomed ship and dying rebellion was good
- + Kylo is a great villain now
- + Poe's stuff worked for me. It's funny because I really hate the similar setup in Star Trek Discovery, but it totally works in Star Wars.
- CON
- - The admiral not telling anyone her real plan was just silly contrived movie conflict
- - The message about "don't sell weapons" or something? didn't work for me, it also didn't have much time, which might be the bigger problem
- - Finn / Rose subplot went...almost nowhere? I mean, the whole sideplot could have been trimmed without effecting the overall plot
- - Got a little too semi-meta in places, which is silly. Like the rug pull under the trailer bits, I dunno, it seemed tacky.
- - Humor in the wrong places. I'm not against it at all, there were a lot of setups that worked, it was just the dialogue bits in places where people shouldn't be crafting explicit jokes.
- - Hux should not be the butt of so many jokes? I get it, but, it ruins his credibility as a villain. Contrast with Tarkin, I guess.
- - The situation with the galaxy is very confusing, did Starkiller firing mean the republic instantly fell? Did they not have any ships? I'm really confused why the first order just kind of won off-screen, but this might just be me.
- Overall: It was ok, I wish it was great, but there was a lot of fat that could and should have been trimmed. And it's not like it was just 'extra stuff', a lot of it distracted me from the parts that were actually good.
