  1. Playing through them all with some breaks in between. Below, some thoughts on the games as I go through them.
  2.
  3. Let me know if you think a game should be in here, some have been excluded on purpose however, reasons given at the bottom. Type 0 and Mystic Quest may go into this list yet (at least type 0).

  5. Final Fantasy (Origins)
  6.
  7. Interesting to see where it started, and infamous for being difficult. No direction given to you what-so-ever when you start, you walk up and get told you're the heroes and this king would REALLY appreciate you rescuing her daughter and it goes from there. The game definitely has a difficulty hump at the start which is hard to get over, but it does get better. Think in retrospect I made life hard by not taking a fighter or warrior but it turned out ok.
  8.
  9. Art style on the PSone version is pretty nice, and so is the music (Mount Gulg in particular). Game feels so hard at the start because you need so much xp and gil and enemies don't give it to you, even though the encounter rate feels ridiculous the whole game. Good items are hard to get from chests through the game because they are all rigged with scripted encounters with hard enemies. MP is also precious and it is really hard at the start to get to the end of a dungeon with your MP intact for a boss. Later on you get items that give you free casts of bolt2 and whatnot and these help so much, without these the game would be so much harder. Grinding is pretty much a must and without the "peninsula of power" this game would have sucked to play.

  11. I used a guide cause I assumed you don't get given much direction and it was true, I didn't feel like running around blind with the encounter rate in this game making it so frustrating. I'm glad I did because this game has a lot of "fuck you"s in the dungeons. I definitely enjoyed playing it but it would have been easy for me not to without any direction or help admittedly.
  12.
  13. tl;dr Good game, frustrating and hard at the start though.

  21. Final Fantasy 2 (Origins)

  23. Jebaited the game, so many dead end rooms it's a joke. Quite frustrating in that regard, otherwise pretty good (and pretty broken). The "level up" system is easily abusable and abuse it I did, right from the start. Doesn't make up for the horrible spell grinding you have to do to make any of the spells worth using (at least in this version). 50 uses of any spell to level it up just once, as there are 16 levels, per spell! Only ever got cure to a good level for this reason as at least you can use it a lot from the menu. Annoying to find out some status can only be cured by certain spells, only once they're a high enough level as well, it made most of them useless (at least it makes you appreciate Mindu).
  24.
  25. The game is alright, think I preferred 1 at this point though, but I was surprised the game was ballsy enough to kill off the characters it did. This game saw the magic system change from FF1, with any characters being able to use any spell once it is taught from a consumable. Worth mentioning that spell grinding is absolutely necessary, at least a little bit for the final boss. With Flare and Holy at level 4 I barely scraped through. It was nice to see the spell animations change as your proficiency increased though and the sprite work in this game is better then FF1.
  26.
  27. tl;dr decent, shame spell levelling is terrible, introduces story to the game series.

  35. Final Fantasy 3 (PC port of DS remake)
  36.
  37. Was looking forward to this remake, as I had played it before (and did not finish) and I loved the visuals and the job system. Story is pretty much completely forgettable, but the number of jobs and the variety is nice. Definitely some times in the game where it wants to force you to switch jobs, where I either A) already had the necessary job in my party or B) brute forced it. All of these games so far love to have a final slog for the last dungeon with no save points or restores and this game is the same. Final dungeon was pretty ok, except for the random dragon back attacks that can happen and wipe you. This game has the only final boss so far I couldn't beat first try, simply because the gimmick kills you so quickly (and my party had low magic defence admittedly). Wish there was a faster way to level job levels that wasn't so tedious, as most of the time your damage output is directly tied to this which discourages switching jobs, which is a shame cause there are so many good ones. Game goes back to the FF1 ways of magic learning, with them being equipable and limited mp stock per magic level. Level 8 white magic definitely felt like a must.

  69. Games in the maybe pile
  70.
  71. Dirge of Cerberus (I probably should...)
  72. Type 0 (I don't know much about)
  73. Mystic Quest (I don't know much about)
  74. Crystal Chronicles (I don't know much about)
  75. World of FF (I don't know much about)
  76. FFT:A (Remember this being good but I can't remember if it will hold up as well now or if it is slow)
  77.
  78. Excluded games
  79.
  80. FF4 After Years: Takes way too long to finish
  81. FFT: Really pretty, but way too slow paced in terms of gameplay. Played this after playing Disgaea 1 and it bores me to tears.
  82. FF11 + FF14: MMO
