  1. 01[18:13] <@SpaceThor> You're back at the mansion, and a doctor has been called to take a look at the former hostage's arm. It hasn't regained any color since you got her untied.
  2. 06[18:14] * Dolores is sitting with her, obviously a tinge worried. She doesn't know medicine but that doesn't seem normal!
  3. 01[18:15] <@SpaceThor> A knock comes at the door.
  4. 06[18:16] * Dolores stands up and goes to get it, smoothing her dress out.
  5. 01[18:18] <@SpaceThor> An older man is at the door, carrying a big bag. "This is the De La Cruz household, yes?" He says, a Russian accent in his words (though not so strong you can't understand him).
  6. [18:19] <Dolores> She smiles, inclining her head. "Ah, this is. Thank you for coming on such a short notice, Dr...?"
  7. 01[18:20] <@SpaceThor> "Kuznetsov. Where is the patient?"
  8. [18:20] <Dolores> "Right this way, Dr. Kuznetsov," she says with a smile, turning to lead him along.
  9. 01[18:21] <@SpaceThor> He comes into the room where Ms. Kate has been stashed, and he frowns on seeing her immediately. "She needs to come to my operating room right now."
  10. 01[18:21] <@SpaceThor> Kate whimpers.
  11. [18:22] <Dolores> "Ah? What's wrong? I'm... ah, not a medical person, really, but I could tell there was something off."
  12. 01[18:22] <@SpaceThor> "Her arm is dead, and the longer we wait the more of her arm she loses." He approaches to press on her arm in places. "The muscle in her hand and forearm are already gone."
  13. 06[18:24] * Dolores blinks. "Oh, well.That's quite bad! Let's go, then."
  14. 01[18:26] <@SpaceThor> The doctor gets her standing, and leads the two of you a few blocks to his office. It's an old building, that's for sure, it was probably ancient when the first breach opened. He blows past the front office, clearing the way to an exam room. "Ms. Cruz, please sit outside so you do not distract me." Kate looks to you, pleadingly.
  15. [18:28] <Dolores> She frowns slightly. "I can remain still and quiet, sir. I think it may comfort Ms. Kate if I were to at least be in the room."
  16. 01[18:28] <@SpaceThor> "Fine, but remember that I'll be holding a rather large knife during the process."
  17. 01[18:29] <@SpaceThor> He gets her laying down, wrapping a tourniquet around the arm, just below the shoulder.
  18. 06[18:29] * Dolores nods, standing near the door and standing there.
  19. 01[18:29] <@SpaceThor> "Here, bite down on this." He more or less stuffs a thick leather strip between her teeth.
  20. 06[18:30] * Dolores grimace,s but as she said she would, she remains quiet.
  21. 01[18:30] <@SpaceThor> He pulls out a rather lengthy sharp knife, and begins washing it with alcohol. "I'd recommend closing your eyes." He remarks to Kate.
  22. 01[18:31] <@SpaceThor> She does so.
  23. 01[18:31] <@SpaceThor> He begins marking on her skin with ink, a circle around the upper arm.
  24. 06[18:32] * Dolores doesn't. She's actually rather morbidly curious...
  25. 01[18:32] <@SpaceThor> Soon, he finishes, and positions the knife over her skin.
  26. 06[18:33] * Dolores bites her lip...
  27. 01[18:34] <@SpaceThor> And with a lot of pressure and a slicing motion, he's at the bone. Good way through it at this point. Kate screams through the leather strap.
  28. 01[18:34] <@SpaceThor> He quickly shifts his grip on the knife and presses again, one more motion severing the arm. Thanks to the torniquet, there isn't too much blood.
  29. 01[18:36] <@SpaceThor> "There, it's done. Now we have some time to talk, Ms. Cruz."
  30. 01[18:36] <@SpaceThor> "Where, exactly, did she get these injuries?"
  31. [18:38] <Dolores> "I lead a small group of bounty hunters into expeditions into the quarantine zone on occasion," she says. "We came across bandits holding the poor girl hostage. They had her tied... unfortunately very poorly."
  32. 01[18:39] <@SpaceThor> "I suspected as much. That works perfectly then. See, I have associates nearby who work in steamfitting. As in, getting this poor girl a new arm."
  33. 01[18:39] <@SpaceThor> "However, on this occasion I'm not interested in money as payment. I have a job that needs to be done."
  34. 06[18:39] * Dolores quirks her head to the side. "Ah, indeed?"
  35. 01[18:41] <@SpaceThor> "An old friend and colleague of mine by the name of Mischa Grigoryev and I had a falling out some weeks past. We had been working on a project for the Miners and Steamfitters Union when this occurred, and in his anger he stole something very valuable to myself and Dr. Ramos, a blueprint."
  36. 01[18:42] <@SpaceThor> "My connections inside the city proper have come up with nothing, either inside or at the train stations, so I am forced to conclude he fled to the Quarantine Zone."
  37. 01[18:43] <@SpaceThor> Kate has, at this point, passed out from pain.
  38. 06[18:44] * Dolores glances to Kate with a bit of worry and nods. "I see. It seems likely; do yo have any more leads than that?"
  39. 01[18:45] <@SpaceThor> "I suspect he went to the Cold Street district. I know there's something of an unofficial market there. He may have attempted to sell it and live off the proceeds, as much as you can call life in the zone 'living.'"
  40. 06[18:48] * Dolores grimaces and nods. "Then we'll get our nose to the ground."
  41. 01[18:48] <@SpaceThor> "Good. I'll send for my other colleague and get her prepped for a pneumatic arm. I'll send someone to collect you when she's ready."
  42. 06[18:51] * Dolores nods again. "Thank you, Doctor."
  43. 01[18:51] <@SpaceThor> He steps out to send his assistant.
  44. 06[18:56] * Dolores steps out herself. She needs coffee.
  45. 01[18:59] <@SpaceThor> Kate is returned later that night, and spends most of it asleep. She's awake the next day around noon though.
  46. 06[19:00] * Dolores makes sure she's treated well, and has her servants tell her when the girl wakes so she can go and talk to her.
  47. 01[19:03] <@SpaceThor> She's in her room when you find out that she's awake.
  48. 06[19:04] * Dolores sits down in a chair there. "How are you feeling, Ms. Kate?"
  49. 01[19:07] <@SpaceThor> "Better." Her voice is still a little weak. "Um, the doctor told me that you're the one who paid for this..." She taps the arm.
  50. 01[19:08] <@SpaceThor> It's a rather sturdy-looking arm. Better than the kind miners get in Union shops.
  51. [19:09] <Dolores> She smiles softly. "It was the least I could do, I felt."
  52. 01[19:11] <@SpaceThor> "Well, you didn't have to do anything. You don't know me...I'm just a stranger."
  53. 06[19:15] * Dolores blinks. "Perhaps, but I believe my ancestors would have been rather dissappointed in me had I left you in such a state. I come from a long and honorable line, after all."
  54. 01[19:16] <@SpaceThor> "Well, in any case...I owe you too much to let it slide now. So whatever I can do to repay you, to help you out, I'm going to do." You can tell by her demeanor she isn't going to take a 'no' to that.
  55. 06[19:18] * Dolores pauses for a moment and nods. "Well, if you insist. What sort of skills do you have, Ms. Kate?"
  56. 01[19:19] <@SpaceThor> "Well, I've done odd jobs ever since getting here. Whoever was hiring, whatever the job. Nothing violent, I don't have any skill for that, but anything else..."
  57. 01[19:20] <@SpaceThor> "Let's just say there are times I'm not proud of, but I owe you that much."
  58. 06[19:22] * Dolores nods. "Mm, perhaps Emmeline and Alexander could find a way to put you to use..."
  59. 01[19:27] <@SpaceThor> "Well, let me know what you decide."
  60. [19:28] <Dolores> "I think I shall." She nods... and reaches over to give the girl a slight hug. It's not quite proper, but...
  61. 01[19:28] <@SpaceThor> She accepts. "Thanks again. My name is Kate Simonides."
  62. 01[19:29] <@SpaceThor> She pointedly does not include the pneumatic arm in the hug. Must still be getting used to using it.
