minhyo was born and raised in jeju but has lived in japan when she was 10 until she was 15, with her brother in korea as a trainee. her parents didn't permit her to become a trainee but soon did after a long time of convincing along with the help of her brother. her parents opposed because they were also scared of minhyo facing the same things her older brother did as a trainee. her older brother is kang dongho, who is a member of nu'est. her parents nearly stopped her from training seeing how dongho's luck in becoming an idol nearly dropped but she did her best to convince them again. she and her family have a strong bond and are very supportive of each other.
