About  three  months  afterwards  hay  became  so  extravagantly dear,  that  the  farmer  found  it  his  interest  to  send  his  whole  stock to  market.  The  stack  I  was  reposing  upon  was  the  largest  in the  yard,  containing  above  500  load,  so  they  began  to  carry  it first.  I  was  awoke  at  last  by  the  voices  of  the  people  who  had ascended  the  ladders  to  begin  at  the  top,  and,  still  half  asleep, and  not  knowing  where  I  was,  I  did  my  best  to  escape.
