- I wanna be the Guy: Gaiden, developed by 'KayinNasaki' is the official sequel to I wanna be the Guy
- ======== As a Speedrun ========
- As a speedrun, IWBTG:Gaiden is extremely finicky with the precise controls. Often there is not really a safe (marathon-friendly) strategy for a given part, and making a minor mistake usually leads to a quick death.
- ======== Mechanics ========
- The mechanics are mostly basic. Jump, double jump, Grapple, Shoot and Charge Shoot. It gets more complex if you combine those and the environment.
- - Double Jumps only refresh once you land
- - Grapple is possible in 3 directions: Vertical [Up], Neutral [Diagonal] and Horizontal [Straight]
- - Grappling a rocket (in stage 2) repels the rocket
- - Pressing Down while on a Grapple makes you fall
- - Repeatedly swing on a flat ceiling is surprisingly difficult, because of how the grapple moves with your character when falling
- === Grapple + Jump ===
- - Swing-Jump
- Jumping at any point during a Grapple-Swing (this includes when you -just- start swinging) counts as a Swing-Jump and does NOT use up the Double Jump
- - No-Swing-Jump
- Jumping off a vertical grapple counts as an airjump and uses up the Double Jump (if it's already used, you simply fall trying to jump)
- === Grapple + Shoot ===
- - Shot-Swing
- Grappling a ceiling vertically and firing a charged shot lets you start swinging
- ======== Glitches ========
- - Bullet lifetime & Infinite Bullets
- Normal bullets don't exist outside the screen. Fully charged bullets exist a little bit outside the screen. Semi-Charged bullets exist until they hit a wall or the end of a level.
- Normally, the amount of shots you can have active on screen is limited to 5. But, as long as a semi-Charged or fully-charged bullet exists on screen, you can shoot infinite amounts of small bullets.
- - Double Barrel Grapple
- (Stage 1) When two barrels cross each other, you can grapple at a precise moment to pick up two barrels at once.
- - Grabbing Bald Bull Phase 3
- Bald Bulls Face-Hitbox is still grapple-able like it is in Phase 1. Grappling his face and dragging the invisible hitbox over the rotten fruits can instant-kill him.
- - Immediate release (bad glitch)
- Under certain circumstances, the game fails to delete a grapple-cancel-flag in the memory. As a result, the next time you grapple a ceiling it will immediately release and you fall - which is usually bad news and leads to a death.
