  1. Contacting the previous owners of a domain I won in auction?
  2. I won a domain thru auction and it was a pretty nice resource for my niche. All I want is one link on it anyways, would it be wrong to contact the previous owner and ask about restoring the website? The previous owner has their email listed on Facebook and I'm sitting here with an email written up debating if I should hit send or not.

  14. you could try to rebuild the site yourself with https://web.archive.org . go to the earliest date they have listed and go through the original pages one at a time an copy and paste them
  15. Yeah that's what I was gonna do, but the site was actually pretty big which made me think of the idea of contacting the old owner. Maybe not a good idea if they feel weird about me emailing them asking for that idk hard to say what do you think?
  16. Why would you wanna ask for permission?
  17. When the site was about to go down there were local news stories on it, with backlinks. Maybe bringing it back up "officially" would get more backlinks too I was thinking.
  18. Rebuild it, you own the domain.
  19. The domain name is but the content is not I believe.
  20. So what? If he reaches out to you and asking for removal of content, then you will do you, otherwise you can leave it there for as long as you wish.

  28. There are tools for that which make the process pretty painless and don't bother contacting the old owner... it is yours and do with it what you want.

  31. Can I ask what some recommendations for tools to expedite the rebuilding process might be?

  36. ive recently bought back and old domain and done this so far g has 75 of the old posts re indexed and 198 of the links i originally built from academia ,wordpress, guthub .no shite links so worth rebuilding took a few hours to repost even used the original images, dates posted and all easily available from wayback machine
  37. if he reachs out to you block him lol
  38. Rebuild it, you own the domain.
  39. I disagree. You will be setting yourself up to fail working in that way. Work with clean content to build a good, solid site without looking over your virtual shoulder in case the original owner complains. You want a crappy site then sure, copy someone else's hard word.

  42. It might be "free game" but it's not the way to build your own, unique site. I agree the chances of the original owner ask8ng for their content to be removed is very slim, but there's still a chance. I have articles from sites long deindexed but I will use the in the future. They are my articles and no-one else is free to use them unless they ask. I thinks it's fair to say there's two sides of the coin.
  43. Fair points, which is why I thought to reach out to the previous owner... worried they might delete their pages with links on them tho if they're unhappy tho.
  44. I would contact just in case, to be sure that there will be no problems later
  45. Some people use the copy method without contact and it works. It's just not something I do. I have contacted owners and always get positive results as they seem to appreciate being asked at least but in the end it's all about what you want :)
  46. Thank you I think I might do that way too
