- That was the prompt.
- My response:
- My current best guess as to why right-wing conspiracies are obsessed with pedophilia is that most of their internal mental life is unavailable to them, coupled with their nature of executing intense factionalism -- from evolution -- coupled with human norms on pedophilia.
- So, they're running an intension factionalism script which causes them to fight against their Enemies at almost any cost. Human norms indicate that pedophilia is one of the Ultimate Bads. Therefore, if your Enemies are doing the Ultimate Bad, you're allowed in modern/republican notions of community to still smash your Enemies, because, well, they're monsters!
- There's probably also some amount of them participating in public psychotherapy for their impulses regarding sexuality towards children by normalizing it as a topic of discussion, while pushing their self-shame onto others to avoid the pain of excessive self-reflection.
- Also, as an organizing motif, you need something that is widely perceived as present/real. So, if you make some art house film about the qualities of being according to Heidegger, you're not going to connect with a broad coalition. However, if you're organizing motif is "Man, those pedophiles are pretty bad, right?!" then you can get a huge swath of humans on your team.
- It's like how atheists have noted that you can get a broad coalition of humans to agree with, "God exists", but if you start probing the details, you start to get sub-factions -- to the point of intergeneral warfare.
- Likewise, while a lot of people on the right really want to get those Ultimate Bad pedophiles, they don't like it too much when you bring up Trump's long history with sexual activity towards young people.
- In my current model, 65% of the explanation is the factionalism, 15% is public psychotherapy, 10% is broad organizational motif, and 10% is unknown -- it does feel like I haven't quite captured something...elusive
