- Quest’s 2025 Audio Moderation and AI Recap (Text Version)
- By Quest

- --------------------------------------
- Introduction:
- About two years ago, Suno AI was released to the general public, and Newgrounds experienced an influx of AI-generated tracks on the Audio Portal. From March 2024 onward, I combed the Audio Portal hunting for these AI-generated tracks. I’ve found thousands. In addition to searching the portal, this year I co-authored a guide with ADR3-N to help users detect AI-generated audio.
- This year saw the rise of another model, Riffusion AI, joining the ranks alongside the established Suno AI and Udio AI. Both Suno AI and Udio AI have improved their “quality” to the point where the most cherry-picked generations are getting hard to distinguish from actual music.
- This recap will be a little different from any others I make in the future, because I was promoted to audio moderator on July 12th, 2025. This means that 2025 was split between tracks I flagged and tracks I directly removed. This infographic encompases both of these categories. Disclaimer: These stats are specific to me, and are not representative of Newgrounds as a whole.

- 2818 AI-Generated Tracks Flagged or Removed
- 3656 Total Flagged or Removed Tracks

- Cumulative Stats:
- 4475 AI-Generated Tracks Flagged or Removed
- 5731 Total Flagged or Removed Tracks
- 18.93 GB Data Used by AI-Generated Tracks
- 4113 Accounts Which Uploaded Prohibited Audio
- AI Model Breakdown:
- Suno AI: 82%
- Udio AI: 5%
- Riffusion AI: 1%
- Other: 12%
- RVC-Based: 0.6%
- Soundful: 0.4%
- Mixed: 0.2%
- Various Other Models: 2.9%
- Unknown: 7.9%
- ----------------------------------------------
- Final Thoughts:
- Similar to last year, nearly all of the AI-generated tracks were from unscouted, brand new accounts, often from what appear to be younger users. A handful of AI-generated tracks were from scouted, established users. Some of these songs were frontpaged, with thousands listening and no one noticing. This will only get worse as models become better at sounding like human-created music. There may come a time when AI-generated audio is imperceptible from actual music. This is why it is so important to be educated on generative AI, beyond just knowing how to detect it. I hope anyone reading this will learn about the ethical, legal, and environmental concerns of generative AI. It’s only going to get worse from here, and human knowledge and intelligence is the best way to fight it.

- Special thanks to @ADR3-N and @G2961 for helping keep the Audio Portal clean. Both of them have flagged or removed thousands of AI-generated tracks. Also, thank you to anyone who has flagged a track on the audio portal. Every report helps keep the Audio Portal clean and welcoming for artists.

- Afterword:
- Now that the very wordy infographic is done, a few of you might be wondering, how was my 2025? All things considered, bad. It was bad. There were a lot of changes in my life, many of them all happening at the same time. I had so many things to do, and a lot of them are still not done, or completed in a broken state. Speaking of broken states, this past year I’ve seen the rights and safety of so many people get jeopardized or erased. I have friends who fear for their families and neighbors. I fear for myself, and I fear for my future. There’s just fear. So, so much fear. Hopefully things are a little calmer and safer in 2026, although I don’t have the highest of hopes. I'll hold on to what little hope I have left though.
- I have some projects coming out in 2026, the first being a collaboration with Little Radiodemon. Everyone will see that very soon. Next, I have a somewhat complete long-form essay post about James Lee’s latest video that I may share here. It needs a lot of editing work before being published, and I may choose to not release it. In 2024, I mentioned that I am looking for music for a larger project. I do intend to work on that more, but not necessarily in 2026. One of the things I want to get into is music production. I'm probably the only audio mod that doesn't make music. Maybe I can change that this year.
- Finally, I am also working on an even larger, long-form essay post about artificial intelligence, drawing a link to something that I do not see draw enough. It’s a big project with a lot of research and knowledgeable people guiding me. This will be released in the coming months. I have a lot to say.
- Thank you,
- Quest
