  1. Gen 7 vs Gen 8 Movepools in the early LU:
  2.
  3. So, from G7 to G8 we had a movepool change!
  4.
  5. I'll be using Polteageist as my example. Let's consider Sinistea's movepool:
  6.
  7. 1 Astonish
  8. 1 Withdraw
  9. 6 Aromatic Mist
  10. 12 Mega Drain
  11. 18 Protect
  12. 24 Sucker Punch
  13. 30 Aromatherapy
  14. 36 Giga Drain
  15. 42 Nasty Plot
  16. 48 Shadow Ball
  17. 54 Memento
  18. 60 Shell Smash
  19.
  20. Polteageist picks up Teatime as an Evo. Move (so also as a Heart Scale move), and it also picks up Strength Sap as a Heart Scale move. Finally, at Level 66 it learns Curse. I'd expect something like this in Gen 7 as the updated movepool:
  21.
  22. 1* Teatime
  23. 1* Strength Sap
  24. 1 Astonish
  25. 1 Withdraw
  26. 1 Aromatic Mist
  27. 1 Mega Drain
  28. Evo Teatime
  29. 6 Aromatic Mist
  30. 12 Mega Drain
  31. 18 Protect
  32. 24 Sucker Punch
  33. 30 Aromatherapy
  34. 36 Giga Drain
  35. 42 Nasty Plot
  36. 48 Shadow Ball
  37. 54 Memento
  38. 60 Shell Smash
  39. 66 Curse
  40.
  41. This standard seems to be how Nintendo prevents wild Pokémon from having HS moves - if you encountered a Level 10 Polteageist, it would know the moves Astonish, Withdraw, Aromatic Mist, and Mega Drain. However, they've changed the way it works in Gen 8. It now looks as follows:
  42.
  43. 1* Teatime
  44. 1* Strength Sap
  45. 1 Astonish
  46. 1 Withdraw
  47. 1 Aromatic Mist
  48. 1 Mega Drain
  49. Evo Teatime
  50. 18 Protect
  51. 24 Sucker Punch
  52. 30 Aromatherapy
  53. 36 Giga Drain
  54. 42 Nasty Plot
  55. 48 Shadow Ball
  56. 54 Memento
  57. 60 Shell Smash
  58. 66 Curse
  59.
  60. Note that in practical terms not much has changed - however now rather than have any duplicates, the duplicates of Aromatic Mist and Mega Drain at L6 and L12 have simply been removed (likely as a space saving feature).
  61.
  62. As another note, quite a few of the older movepools have often simply marked Heart Scale moves as 'HS' - some of which actually creating movepools that are impossible, as their HS moves lack appropriate numbers of L1 moves. These should all simply be marked as L1 - HS doesn't require a special indicator, just be a L1 move that has four other L1 moves after it.
  63.
  64. This should help inform how Gen 8 Heart Scale and Level 1 movepools now work - expect a lot of more 'sudden' jumps in the early levels. For those working on CAP27 movepools, I suggest making sure you consider the impact this will have on the LC edition of your movepool!
