Counterplay to Lilligant is different from most Pokemon due to Quiver Dance being such a fantastic boosting move and Sleep Powder putting its checks asleep. Roselia is one of the most consistent switch-ins into Lilligant due to its quadruple Grass resistance, access to reliable recovery, immunity to Sleep Powder, threatening STAB super effective Sludge Bomb, and ability to use Lilligant as Spikes fodder. Articuno is a fairly reliable check to Lilligant whenever Stealth Rock is not in play. However, whenever it is, switching into it is rather difficult, as Lilligant almost always gets a free Quiver Dance boost and can either KO Articuno with Z-Hyper Beam, Hidden Power Rock, or use Sleep Powder and 2HKO with Hidden Power Fire. Altaria's immense special bulk and access to Roost makes it a reliable check to all Lilligant sets not running Hidden Power Ice. Oricorio-E is another decent switch into Lilligant with its signature ability Dancer copying its Quiver Dance so Lilligant can never outboost Oricorio-E. Oricorio-E outspeeds Lilligant naturally, allowing it to always outspeed and OHKO Lilligant with either Hurricane or Supersonic Skystrike. Drampa has also picked up in usage again post-Alolan Exeggutor and walls Lilligant reliably to Sap Sipper. Sets including Calm Mind and Roost take advantage of Lilligant relatively small movepool, able to defeat sets lacking Z-Hyper Beam or the incredibly rare Hidden Power Ice. Another Normal-type that has picked up in usage recently is Bouffalant. With its Sap Sipper ability and decent special bulk, it can sponge attacks and use Lilligant as setup fodder. Specially defensive Alolan Sandslash can switch into and Icicle Crash Lilligant, only fearing variants carrying Hidden Power Fire. Offensive variants of Alolan Sandslash can also check Lilligant but requires Hail support to so. +1 Lilligant is commonly a reference point for setting the Choice Scarf benchmark. Several users such as Primeape and Dodrio outspeed a boosted Lilligant and threaten to take it out but are not safe switch-ins.
