  1. First and foremost, I would like to thank you for taking the time to even click on the thread. I desire nothing for myself, but very much for the community I've long been a part of. I am currently a high-ranking staff member of the pure community known as Sharkbrew. I am prepared, along with my staff, to communicate through Twitter, Email, Discord, Skype, Teamspeak and even in real life, to allow our community to expand and flourish. Note that parts of this were edited by my fellow staff members.
  2.
  3. Introduction
  4. The intro to this letter merely refers to the fact that some pure clans have existed for over 10 years, yet over those years, we have been given very little attention. With Runescape 3, combat systems changed to the point the pure community died. Whether it was directly or indirectly doesn't really matter, because the point is that we weren't even considered in first place. As a result, the vast majority of the pure community migrated to private servers. We were very happy that OSRS came along and revived our community. There are several ever-so existing problems that we cannot fix ourselves; these are the reasons for this letter.
  5.
  6. Why must the Pure community exist and thrive?
  7. The effects of the pure community on the wilderness is undeniable. Outside of BH, pure clans and teams roam the wilderness 24/7. While the raw number of official pures may not be something to shout about, mercantilism effects of our activities are far too great to ignore. Pures are willing to throw hundreds of million of GP purchasing food/equipment to kill other players for little to no loot. If you wish to witness the carnage and leftover loot by us pure clans, attend yourself on weekends for official clan wilderness trips (F2P Saturday & P2P Sunday) around 3-6pm EST.
  8.
  9. What is our community troubled/threatened by?
  10. - Mains
  11. This is the biggest threat to our community. I am not talking about main accounts in general, but certain clans purposely bringing mains into pure wars. We prefer to 'let quality talk', but there are some individuals and ranks of clans that bring main accounts for the sole reason of ruining the pure community. This is especially a problem in F2P servers where high defence levels and rune armour is difficult to penetrate with maple shortbows and rune scimitars. Why do some clan do this? One reason is their desperation to compete, leading to several other clans adapting for mains. Nearly a year ago, majority of clans brought main accounts in both servers, creating a crisis. Why is this a problem? We cannot control the actions of all clans even if some agree not to bring main accounts. How can you help us overcome this? Two separate worlds created (1 F2P and 1 P2P), where pures (1-5/20 defence) cannot be attacked by accounts with higher defence (21 and higher). This would solidify our community's existence. Alternatively; 1. Certain regions in the wilderness where pures cannot be attacked by mains (preferably both single and multi zones), 2. Pure accounts below combat 90 or defence 20 (prevent PVM abuse) cannot be attacked by mains on weekends, 3. Pure accounts cannot be attacked by mains on weekends unless pures attack first. This is open for discussion and we are willing to debate on alternative methods to benefit both OSRS and our community.
  12.
  13. - Hacking for defence
  14. When we get hacked, our number one fear is leveled defence rather than a cleaned bank. The most common method for leveling defence is accepting the MM reward, giving 33 defence. This is because it takes a lot of time and difficulty to train pure accounts. Losing a maxed 1 defence account is extremely painful, and drives many to quit the game entirely. I have personal experience of this so I know how troubling it is. My email was compromised, and they disabled the authenticator, got in and removed all my 'miniwar' gear (roughly 80m) and leveled defence to 41 meaning I was no longer a pure. I reported this, and made a post on Reddit, and tried to tweet about it to Jagex but got no response. I am by no means blaming anyone, and I know it was my own fault. I just wanted to point out that it is a saddening thing to loose an account like that. How can this be prevented? Allow accounts to 'experience lock' their defence level gain so that their accounts cannot be ruined.
  15.
  16. - Clan Wars Upgrades
  17. Some clans tend to cheat during clan wars fights (we call them 'preparation wars' or preps). Often, a clan tries to bring in accounts with high defence or combat levels into preps. This isn't a problem, nor does it require a solution; we would just like to suggest an updated clan wars challenge screen interface. We would like to request an option to choose maximum defence and combat levels as well as the option to block out certain weapons or armour. This would benefit the main PvP clanning community a lot as well.
  18.
  19. - Clan Wars
  20. After our numerous attempts at contacting Mod Roq, we have become very dissatisfied with his/her lack of commitment and interest regarding clan wars. We as a community expect greater focus on the Jagex Cup. Looking at other games such as League of Legends, we see that the amount of fan and competitive success they've made is phenomenal. We believe similar success is possible for OSRS. Pure clanning involves an enormous amount of strategy, coordination, and teamwork. The same may be said for the main clanning community. As a programmer, I have written an experience tracker, a project which I will continue developing. A problem I have faced is the lack of information available from the hiscores. I want to create a pie chart to show how much damage is done per minute, a task which requires me to ping the hiscores frequently and doing this would cause Jagex to block my websites. Others include; how much damage was done by ranged, melee and magic in different areas of the map as well as with each strategy (for example a 'scim push'). The aftermath statistics of League of Legends holds a large amount of information which is not immediately apparent. Similar statistics for Clan Wars compounded with footage would be extremely helpful to clans who wish to improve. How can we improve clan wars, JCUP and clanning? If feasible, we request additional staff; alternatively, we will personally volunteer our time to organize the JCUP and other similar tournaments. We wish to work with you to achieve our vision of an improved Old School PvP Community. Potential improvements; giving greater attention to it on the Oldschool website, on Reddit, Youtube and Twitch. Working with community ranks to organize events. We are prepared to discuss this as is necessary to do so.
  21. Lack of support and attention - Jagex has paid plenty of attention to the Skilling, PVM, and Deadman communities and gameplay. However, thus far we feel disregarded and the only commitment for the Pking clanning communities is the occasional JCup tournament. This is even more evident by disparaging comments by JMod about how Pures/Pkers are just the vocal minority. While we may have lesser numbers, our presence ingame helps dictates the PvP side of the game remain active. You must understand that this is not just about the pure community, but all PvP based clanning communities. We want a communal progression rather than just focusing on us or them. I hope you understand.
  22.
  23. - Integration of communities
  24. We have a section in our forums dedicated to Old School Runescape's news releases. We try and arrange tournaments, a clan of the month (clan wars and wilderness) system of competition, as well as experience trackers, memberlists, guides, and support for building forums for clans as much as we can. But sometimes we are confronted with walls that are simply too high to climb. Over the years, staff members of community sites have attempted to work with Jagex for integration such as ours, but have not been able to do so. We would request that a line of communication is built up between our community and Jagex, as well as other PvP based clanning communities. This would benefit all of us in several ways. Firstly, it would allow Jagex to enforce rules with much more ease to players who break the rules such as hacking. Secondly, the PvP aspect of the game will become more active, organized and rewarding. We truly believe that eSports can begin right here and now. Moreover, the enhancement of such parts of the game will take more players out of private servers and back into oldschool RuneScape. There are some private servers that thrive of the clanning aspect of their communities. We feel that if we work together, we can achieve a great deal.
  25.
  26. Conclusion
  27. I wish to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Our own initiative will only take us so far and we graciously ask for your assistance. With your help, a new era of clanning is just around the corner. We are committed to the improvement of our community and the PvP gameplay Old School Runescape provides, and we eagerly await your response.
  28.
  29. Best regards,
  30. Sharkbrew Staff.
