- ALTERNATE LOG 14: SUBJECT A1422MW - Shelter [WRITTEN BY SAN_KA, EDITED BY ROSE SHRIMP]
- GIVEN DESCRIPTION: From the minds of two musicians, and some wild technology added to some scrap parts, comes a robot called Shelter! They're a newcomer to this whole thing, accidentally crashing into the tournament whilst in search of those who created it, unaware of Chair's league of epic bosses. Whilst Shelter's here, they plan to make some sick mashups and cheer the contestants on! They've a long way forward, so trust in them until they're gone, ok?

- RESEARCH NOTES: The second case amongst our alternates where we have pulled out a boss. Subject A1422MW is an original character made for Mashup Week based on Porter Robinson and Madeon's Shelter, akin to Omega Soundclown as both are original characters based on sets of circumstances regarding Mashup Week. They can be loosely described as a robot, with several parts of floating metal connected together by advanced antigravity metal technology. The face bears the design of the logo for the collaboration between the two artists, and the other metal parts are much thinner, apart from the two hands - the left based on Worlds, the right based on Shelter Live. Also, there are pieces of geometry, not to be confused with the geometry in their render, floating around it as physical objects. These bear a strong resemblance to Ultimus Tourney's Adventure Machine's background geometry, even though Adventure Machine weren't actually released until after Shelter's reveal. Could it be that it was retroactively changed to reference this, to make it not just a simple design element? We do not quite know.
- As a boss, Shelter plays a semi-important role in the story. Instead of the original boss, implied to be the original K/DA’s Alkali, Shelter shows up instead, not on Chair's side, trying to find its creators after hearing its origin song around the Weekyard premises - a nod to how many of Madeon and Porter Robinson's songs were overused during Mashup Week's run. After a run-in with Lord Farquaad and Neil Cicierega for a replacement boss fight pushed by the Weekyard itself, where Shelter managed to somehow "win" against the three contestants through - and this is entirely real - "accidentally" shooting them, Shelter instead decides to stay at the Weekyard with the remaining few contestants. That is, until Garfield takes over, and Shelter too - despite not being one of the bosses hired by Chair - is possessed and hypnotised by Garfield into working for him.
- Shelter's send-off lore addressed their creators' identities much more directly, heavily implying them to be Porter Robinson and Madeon as depicted in Ultimus Tourney, likely after a connection was agreed to by both backrooms. They leave to find the pair, gifting the tournament a final track as a thank you to everyone, both bosses and contestants alike. However, they did return briefly for Scott the Week, as "Maddeon" was a full-blown dual, rather than simply being built around an offsource. In comparison to K/DA Alkali's original output, Shelter also has many more tracks than her, quite possibly due to musicians' enjoyment of Madeon and Porter Robinson as artists, unlike the team's view of K/DA's sources.
- BRACKET CHANGES:
- Interestingly, the results seem to have been ever so slightly changed. The results for the second quarterfinals match - Geico Gaming VS Neil Cicierega - are altered within this timeline, leading to Geico Gaming dropping to Losers. Neil then went on to fight Lord Farquaad in the semifinals, and then Heavy Weapons Guy and Scott The Woz in the grand finals, where he came second. Heavy received a percentage of 22.09%, similar to how Geico Gaming lost by 15.07% in the original timeline, as Valve has a notorious history of failing to make threequels to their games. Neil lost by 38.76%, where one vote would’ve caused him and Scott to tie; his prize was a Cabinet Man fusion collab.
- Geico Gaming falling to Losers has a profound impact on the results as well. Strangely, the duo lose to Billie Eilish through a tiny amount of votes, allowing her to move to Losers Round Three, where she fights Snail-Chan and Babascoops. From there, she moves on to fight Scott The Woz in a rematch for Losers Finals, where she ultimately loses and places fourth overall. The lore from this is slightly different, as Billie is no longer subject to the Losers Round Two loss she faced in the initial tournament. There’s a small arc where Cici feels some regret for sending the bosses out to fight against Billie and Snail-Chan, and, of course, she is further enraged by Scott emerging victorious the second time. Filthy Frank also manages to reach Losers Round Three, but the reason for his victory over Herobrine is unexplained. Aside from these changes, the bracket is exactly the same.
- There are also a few miscellaneous changes coming from the change of the bracket. Firstly, the Losers’ Finals tracks in our timeline have been uploaded in different places; Scott The What has now been uploaded in Part 3, returning to its status as an impossible between the two contestants due to the two being in completely different positions in the bracket, and Wii Phone was uploaded in Part 6 as a normal dual track as an original track. Secondly, a lore piece is made for the semifinals, wrapping up the old lore where Neil and Farquaad meet for the first time.
- Finally, the sendoff tracks have been moved along slightly to account for the final results being different, such as Billie Eilish being in the final four, and Geico Gaming going 1-2. The list is as follows:
- 1. Later, All! [Scott The Woz]
- 2. The Finish Line [Neil Cicierega]
- 3. Tetris Type RED [Heavy Weapons Guy]
- 4. goodbye, i love you [Billie Eilish]
- 5. An All Star’s Saddened Sleep [Lord Farquaad]
- 6. Hats Off To You, Kid! [Hat Kid]
- 7. One Last Adventure [Snail-Chan]
- 8. FRANCIS OF THE FILTH [Filthy Frank]
- 9. Cadillac Memory [Geico Gaming]
- 10. Nostalgia Trip [Herobrine]
- 11. Retiring Is Scary [RayWilliamJohnson]
- 12. Your Mother Got Dunked On!!!!!! [Quad City Barkley]
- 13. Eric Worldwide [Flat Eric]
- 14. Final Tran$action [Kesha]
- 15. 世界の終わり!「Final Roundabout」[DIO Brando]
- 16. DARE THE FUNKIEST ROBOT STAR [Mettaton EX]
- INVOLVEMENT WITH MASHUP WEEK MEGAMIX:
- During the development of Mashup Week: Megamix, MAD/EON was still submitted for and won one of the two music team slots in the roster. However, he was not alone, as during the conceptualisation for the character, Shelter and the 'Shelter Evil Edit' were brought up numerous times, leading to MAD/EON being teamed up with it, under the team name The Silent. The ARG for their reveal was largely the same, but the lore alongside it differed; splitting the commentary and hint text between MAD/EON and Shelter. MAD/EON's were the same, with a few mentions of Shelter present that weren't in the original text, but the steps Shelter commented on focused on their own journey to find what's left of one of their creators. Shelter's personality provides a contrast to MAD/EON's own, showing an eagerness to bond with their creator that he seems ambivalent at best to. Certain text, both in the ARG and the intro dialogue, implies that MAD/EON's corruption has begun to affect Shelter too.
- The sourcelist for the team is similar to MAD/EON's, with Porter Robinson's associated artists, and corruption and virtual realities as a new fourth source. Snailiens appear to have been fully reworked after The Silent's addition to the roster to account for the overlap. A new Heavy buff involving his Team Fortress Classic incarnation was initially released instead of Volskaya Co., allowing the Snailiens' buff to be food-focused. Due to the rework of the Snailiens’ sourcelist, and Heavy Weapons Guy’s differing sourcelist, several bracket placements had to be altered to account for the difference in fan reception, though some other edits have taken place too. The bracket, with all of its changes, is as follows:
- R1M1: BLACK MAMBA FARQUAAD vs TYLER AND THE GRINCH
