FireRed Elite Four Round 2 FAQ

Q: What are you doing?

A: I'm attempting a speed run of Pokémon FireRed where the goal is to beat the Champion twice.

Q: How do you do that?

A: In order to beat Champion twice, you need to complete the following requirements:
1. Beat the Champion once.
2. Have 60 unique Pokémon in your Pokédex, to unlock the National Dex.
3. Complete the Sevii Islands side quest (Because Lorelei is there after Round 1)

Q: What's the World Record?

A: The current WR is 3:34 by ExarionU, on console. The best known time is 3:31 by Werster, on emulator. You can find the current leaderboards here: http://www.speedrun.com/pkmnfrlg#Elite_4_Round_2

Q: Are there any glitches?

A: While there are glitches in FireRed/LeafGreen, none of them are useful for this run.

Q: Does the version of the game matter?

A: Yes, it is faster to play on FireRed. The main reason is that the game corner Pokémon prizes cost more in LeafGreen than they do in FireRed.

Q: Why did you reset?

A: 1) I missed the frame for RNG Prediction; 2) I died; 3) Getting a PB is now impossible.

Q: What is RNG Prediction?

A: It's a way to guess which frame to press A on to select Squirtle and get insane stats. With these stats, I can get through a lot of the game without much difficulty. The basic tutorial is here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMWlQn8Hoqg ) but I've learned a few things that make it more difficult. The basic concept works though.

Q: What stats/nature are you looking for?

A: I'm looking for Rash, Mild, or Modest natures (in that priority), and minimum 18 IV Attack, 25 IV Special Attack, and 21 IV Speed. Special Attack has priority over the other two stats, as I will typically take the highest Special attack I can find.

Q: Wait, you're using Mewtwo and not Zapdos?

A: Yes. There is a route developed by SFayneB that is more consistent in beating the Elite Four with Mewtwo than Zapdos. However, there hasn't been a solid time posted for it yet. I aim to change that.

Q: Is there a public route?

Q: Why did you name your Squirtle/Rival/Self I/A/I?

A: One character names are the fastest, and I happens to look nicest for my character and Squirtle. For Rival, A is chosen because I need as much time as possible for RNG Prediction.

Q: What is Torrent, and why is it important?

A: When a Pokémon with Torrent uses a Water-type move, the power will increase by 1.5× if the user has less than or equal to ⅓ of its maximum HP remaining. Torrent allows me to hit damage ranges and deal more damage than without.
