Background: Fuji was born in Seattle, Washington, U.S. in a household with her Korean father, Japanese mother, and older sister. Growing up, Fuji always had a passion for the arts as a kid, even though her parents weren't so big on it. They wanted her to succeed academically, but due to her dyslexia and her unfocused personality, it was difficult. She was pressured to do better a lot, especially when her older sister had straight A's. At school, though, Fuji had a good amount of friends; she could be considered popular. This was due to her cracking jokes all of the time and being considered a "hot" girl to the boys at school. She dated a few, but it obviously didn't work out very well. When she was twelve, her parents weren't getting along so well, so they divorced. They were constantly fighting and were even stricter on Fuji, once even threatening to send her to live with her grandmother in Japan. Once Fuji heard about a company auditioning performing talents, she thought of it as a way to escape her situation (she later admits to being stupid). So, with her friends saying "YES DO IT, MAYBE YOU'LL GET IN", she thought, what harm could this do? Fuji auditioned to be a trainee when she was thirteen, and was accepted. Her parents eventually loosened up after discovering how big of a company SM is (You can definitely shorten this if necessary lmao).
